Refugees

Am I wrong to feel the people of this country are using the "Cost of Living" narrative to justify not helping migrants and refugees who seek refuge for themselves? Neglecting our British values, passing the buck to Rwanda and European countries. The attitude towards those fleeing war zones and risking everything to come to this country on harsh waters is outrageous!

I was in the corner shop today and over heard a couple of women making digs about foreigners. To make unjustified claims such as "it makes us unsafe", "we don't have jobs" or my personal favourite - "they don't integrate into society." What on earth has happened to our British values? To make others feel welcome and to help others in need of help!

Every human has a right to safety, affordable housing, food, water, education and a healthcare system. Those are all things our wonderful country can provide and quite frankly has a moral obligation to provide for those coming from other parts of the world that aren't as fortunate as us.

This nails it ;-

The Gulf States do not have a policy referring to refugees; they do not acknowledge any legal category as such.
The Gulf States are not signatories to the 1951 United Nations Refugee Convention, defining who fall into the category of a refugee and governs rights and responsibilities in relation with dealing with the refugees.
In addition, they strict visa policies and very restrictive citizenship laws, having in mind a precarious demographic balance.

There you have it.

The Gulf States don't acknowledge there is any such category as a "refugee".

In what way is Britain not a tolerant, liberal democracy?.

British children will grow up in a more tolerant country than we are now, more multiculturalism.

The far right is growing but Muslims have 10 times the number of babies and are voting on immense numbers in EU countries for equality and rights!

It's called Infiltration.

Unless you are a woman in a majority Islamic state

Seriously OP! You are really not doing yourself or refugees any favours by making statements like that.

You seem to forget that many British men are converting to Islam. Why do you keep attacking foreigners who are Muslim?

I said spare rooms! I don’t say to double or sell houses.

But why not ?

Why not have houses filled to their capacity to house refugees?

Oh I know this would affect you .

No, I'm asking in what way we're not a tolerant society?

Bululu · 04/02/2024 10:42

What I just read. Most countries in the ME are always at war, hate women and live in inequality so go and fool somewhere else.

Grannysmithsfrisbee · 04/02/2024 10:43

@InayaWoo "British children will grow up in a more tolerant country than we are now, more multiculturalism."

So you are saying that Britain is 'intolerant'?

OK, so feel free to slot off to somewhere more 'tolerant' then!

Maireas · 04/02/2024 10:45

@Grannysmithsfrisbee , indeed. Plus good luck with finding an open border....

People vote their own interests. Thats what I’m saying, like you do.

What about the cases that happen when an immigrant or refugee is not involved? You ignore that, it’s not refugee.

I'm talking about the real life cases I know of. You said people claim immigrants don't integrate. I'm talking about cases where they choose not to, and worse still, are committing crimes such as rape with underage children. Because that's what a 13 year girl becoming pregnant is, whether it's under the guise of marriage or not.

I'm not for one minute claiming that these crimes aren't also committed by non-immigrants. Of course they are. But it's disingenuous to suggest it isn't a problem in some first-generation Pakistani communities because it is.

So yes, I do have valid concerns about integration if people come to the U.K., choose to remain in a closed off community and abide by a different set of laws to others. It's fine to have different values but I'm afraid I will call out anything that involves abuse of underage children because it's our duty to protect them. And for the record, my Muslim friends feel just as strongly.

Bululu · 04/02/2024 10:46

But tell us who are you voting for in the next elections? Which party that has your back?

We’re working to make Britain more tolerant. I didn’t say intolerant, I don’t think that. Trot off? I’m a citizen, like you.

Why do some Muslim men abuse/groom British women?

For the 5th time why didn't you and your family move to Saudi Arabia or Qatar. Much wealthier, so what's the problem?

How many British men are converting to Islam?

To be honest you are now making me feel like you have an agenda by telling us that “many” British men are converting to Islam and Muslim’s are are having ten times as many children as Europeans.

How many British women are converting?

LadyJaneEarlGreyTea · 04/02/2024 10:50

Also I referred to Islamic states, not foreigners who are Muslim
