Refugees

Am I wrong to feel the people of this country are using the "Cost of Living" narrative to justify not helping migrants and refugees who seek refuge for themselves? Neglecting our British values, passing the buck to Rwanda and European countries. The attitude towards those fleeing war zones and risking everything to come to this country on harsh waters is outrageous!

I was in the corner shop today and over heard a couple of women making digs about foreigners. To make unjustified claims such as "it makes us unsafe", "we don't have jobs" or my personal favourite - "they don't integrate into society." What on earth has happened to our British values? To make others feel welcome and to help others in need of help!

Every human has a right to safety, affordable housing, food, water, education and a healthcare system. Those are all things our wonderful country can provide and quite frankly has a moral obligation to provide for those coming from other parts of the world that aren't as fortunate as us.

For what you said as you are from the ME. Do you come here with the mentality that we need to help all countries at war and everyone back in your country over the people already here? As we are richer and so and so. Do you think land is finite. We would end up the same with so many people here? Mass population ends in poverty and chaos. You should really read the room as most people like me are still in shock of what is happening in our streets lately. Quit it is embarrassing.

whowhatwerewhy · 04/02/2024 09:36

But you could empty a room if you felt so strongly about housing.
It's only not empty because you choose to give your children a room each.

OP, people do not have the right to go wherever they wish. I don't, you don't. They don't. Whether you like it or not.

And unfortunately there has been a constant stream of negative news stories related to immigration, gangs of south asian men systematically raping & trafficking young British girls, groups of immigrant parents threatening British teachers and trying to limit or narrow British education. Honour killings, fgm, trafficking women from Eastern Europe.

These are the issues that grab the headlines. There is no news value about a newly arrived family settling in a town, going to school & work, happily making friends, joining in the local community.

So people hear much more about the negative and react accordingly.

You dictating to them what they must do, will only make things worse and have the opposite result. Educating & encouraging understanding is the only way to progress.

What is the point in denying legitimate issues? To seem kind? To be performative?

Everyone here knows immigrant families who have assimilated well, but to pretend that there aren't in some cases massive disparities in cultures is stupid. To pretend there aren't any issues with the immigration system is also stupid.

There are pros and cons to everything in life.

Fox111 · 04/02/2024 09:36

There are two different types of refugees. The once fleeing the war like Ukrainians and the once that find a convenient excuse to immigrate. I happened to know many Ukrainians that came here when the war started, 8 in10 have already left and the rest will leave once the war is over. However the other types are using human rights convention to come here in my opinion just to milk the system.

I said multiple times that it should be equal rights for all humans. The people arriving should be treated the same as citizens. Where’s the humanity? Is China poor? 1.3B people! No.

Also, where's your evidence that "British citizens" want refugees to go to Rwanda?
You do realise that the government don't necessarily reflect the majority view?

Sometimeswinning · 04/02/2024 09:37

InayaWoo · 04/02/2024 09:25

This is what I’m campaigning, to make in law and government mandate that spare rooms are occupied. Not all refugees are men, choose a woman if it means that much to you.

You want that to be a law!!?? You want to force people/families to home an asylum seeker? Mental health issues? Financial support? Cultural differences? How are people suppose to handle these issues? Obviously not your problem as your full up 😂 Think before you come up with these crazy notions and actually write them down!

Have a look at how China is treating Muslims.
I think a campaign about that would be a good idea.

Why do they abandon safe countries like France and Germany, who have been taking care of them for years? What's so special about England, that they feel more safe here??!! Benefits. Germany kick off everyone regardless of immigration status, after a set period of time. I met a south African man who lived in Germany for years. He decided to come to England because he had a disability and was told he'd never have to work, as the benefits were good. He said he was very happy living here!!!

I mean refugees that don’t pose a risk.

We need to start helping the women, children, families suffering war and persecution who do not have the means to get here. If we actually helped people most in need to gain asylum and stopped taking young male economic migrants who want an easy life people wouldn't have these views.

This . 100% .

lotsofpeoplenametheirswords · 04/02/2024 09:39

@InayaWoo No, you could easily make room.

You're one of those faux-outraged people that want everyone else to change the way they live so you can continue on with your virtue signalling, hypocrisy and self-superiority, whilst doing absolutely nothing. You are the worst kind of campaigner because you want everyone to think you care, you want to belittle others whilst achieving nothing. Go back to your 4 bed and either make room for a refugee and put your money where your mouth is or shut up pretending you actually care by demonising people who don't agree with you.

Bululu · 04/02/2024 09:39

I rather fill my empty rooms with concrete if you mad law come to pass. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

It’s free travel for European citizens. You have the same right, but a refugee shouldn’t?

No. The government represent us. This is not direct democracy, it is representative. Often they pass legislation which would not be popular with the vast majority of citizens.

Who are you voting for in the next elections? I want to know which party is keen on your ideas. 💡

InayaWoo · 04/02/2024 08:30

I would love nothing more but as I said I’m mother of three, four bedrooms and would not have the space for them.

Four bedroomed house could easily cater for at least one refugee two of your children can double up in a bedroom.

Money where your mouth is OP.

Fox111 · 04/02/2024 09:42

If we were China we would love them to come. They would be put to work straight away.

It doesn’t matter because as more and more refugees settle in this country the votes will gradually change outcomes. It’s not a huge support as we speak.
