Refugees

Am I wrong to feel the people of this country are using the "Cost of Living" narrative to justify not helping migrants and refugees who seek refuge for themselves? Neglecting our British values, passing the buck to Rwanda and European countries. The attitude towards those fleeing war zones and risking everything to come to this country on harsh waters is outrageous!

I was in the corner shop today and over heard a couple of women making digs about foreigners. To make unjustified claims such as "it makes us unsafe", "we don't have jobs" or my personal favourite - "they don't integrate into society." What on earth has happened to our British values? To make others feel welcome and to help others in need of help!

Every human has a right to safety, affordable housing, food, water, education and a healthcare system. Those are all things our wonderful country can provide and quite frankly has a moral obligation to provide for those coming from other parts of the world that aren't as fortunate as us.

I hate to break it to you OP but your made up ‘laws’ aren’t going to happen. The government cannot (and wouldn’t) enforce a law which would mean every property owner had to house refugees.

sparrow4 · 04/02/2024 09:43

Where’s the humanity? Is China poor? 1.3B people! No.

You might want to have a read about the state of China's economy, the demographic time-bomb and the recent collapse of Evergrande. Oh and its welfare system is very different to the U.K and there's no political freedom either.

Not a model example you've picked...

I came for opinions and quite frankly the views are awful.

Well, if you don't like the views don't hang about - it's not compulsory !

You could gainfully use you time better making placards to stand outside the Iranian Embassy asking why they are still hanging gay men, stoning women for adultery, and cutting off fingers/hands for stealing?

Iran Cuts Off Fingers Of Young Man Over Robbery

Despite numerous calls on to stop amputation of prisoners convicted of robbery, Iran has cut off four fingers of a 28-year-old man, with seven more on the list to receive the draconian punishment.

Those who arrive here will have rights to vote, as in a democracy.

Why CAN'T some of your household share rooms OP, I don't think you've said?

I’m not here to debate Islam.

You want that to be a law!!?? You want to force people/families to home an asylum seeker? Mental health issues? Financial support? Cultural differences? How are people suppose to handle these issues? Obviously not your problem as your full up 😂 Think before you come up with these crazy notions and actually write them down!

Yep! According to OP it’s fine for me to have a stranger in my home who I know nothing about. In fact it should be law. However she has been unable to come up with a reasonable explanation as to why some of her family can’t share rooms to enable her to house someone.

Spectre8 · 04/02/2024 09:44

Your living room isn't occupied though is it so in this urgent need to help people it can be converted into a bedroom.

Goateen · 04/02/2024 09:45

Oh look, op.

I've made it to the end.

Someone who's so passionate about refugees that s giving one word answers to other people's paragraphs.

And all your comments are ridiculous.

Do not believe this is genuine.

I said nothing about occupied rooms. The hell my brother had to go to before being accepted for a visa was tantamount to racism as far as I’m concerned.

Spiteful. Laws would obviously prevent that.

So you think all humans are equal except the single people with spare rooms. So some humans are more equal than others?

You’re talking about a dictatorship! I see.

Maybe you should.

It could explain why people are fleeing Sharia Law in these theocratic regimes.

I am absolutely against dictatorships. I believe all is equal, I believe that we should all have warm homes.

Why come to such a racist country?
Why not go to Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Australia? Japan?

Beautiful3 · 04/02/2024 09:47

@Maireas I want them to go.

marshmallowburn · 04/02/2024 09:47

InayaWoo · 04/02/2024 09:41

There are some sources.

A source that Saudi Arabia and Dubai accept refugees? I'm all ears. ( BTW taking in SE Asians to make them work mercilessly for crap money is not accepting refugees).

As a Muslim I won’t debate with someone that clearly has skewed view already. I’m not trying to debate Islam, it’s about refugees.

I rather fill my empty rooms with concrete if you mad law come to pass. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'd rent my room (currently an office) or give it to someone who is British who need it first before having a government force me to take someone in.

Absolutely Looney Tunes thread and OP - and I’m married to an Iranian so not exactly Britain First’s target market 🙄

Bululu · 04/02/2024 09:49

It doesn’t matter because as more and more refugees settle in this country the votes will gradually change outcomes. It’s not a huge support as we speak

Yes, we know that is your plan. This is clear and that is why governments are shifting far right in Europe. Glad you are the one saying this. Otherwise, no one say it but think it and act accordingly just in case the brainwashed scream racist. Bye good luck with your plans. 🤣🤣🤣

Anyway, I'm still waiting for your evidence of the generous refugee policies of Saudi Arabia and Dubai, which you claimed upthread.
