What are you spending your cost of living payment on?

I'm £200 in debt to my gas and electricity supplier so I'll be paying that off to hopefully build up credit over the summer months ready for the winter. The other £101 I don't know yet.

What are you doing with yours?

I get pip and so am due the £150 in the summer. This is utterly ridiculous as I'm married to a GP!!

I'll be giving my money to the local food bank as we already have all we need.

wildinthecountry · 27/04/2023 09:43

I get PIP too and I need that £150 .

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 27/04/2023 09:53

Food, bills, diesel, things my kids need like trainers and clothes.

SittingOnTheChair · 27/04/2023 09:57

I get the £150 because I'm in receipt of PIP. Not sure when I get it but it will be going on my MOT as I'm reliant on my car.

@Okunevo

I overheard the assistant in the shoe shop say to get school shoes as they are designed to be worn every day.

Ours will barely last the year having been worn four days a week! He's only walking 10 minutes to the bus then college is one building. I thought office shoes should last a few years. Don't know what he is doing wrong?

It makes me so sad how people are struggling. And I wish they would give the money to low income workers too.

I work full time and I'm getting it.

Have you asked him why they're wearing out so fast? I could understand if he were a small child skidding and running about but if he's at college he surely isn't doing those things.

HistoryFanatic · 27/04/2023 11:18

@Felucia We are both low income workers and have just received it today. It isn't just for the unemployed.

He doesn't know. He is only walking in them. They aren't wearing out on the sole, just that the sole is coming away on one. They must only be glued, not stitched.

Sn? None of my downstairs doors even have handles now after covid due to the slamming

Must be a SN thing to do bcos my ds has had all mine off aswell! 🤣

I’ve got 4 door handles under my bed. I had to take them and hide them as he kept throwing them from the top of the stairs. 🙄😂

danni0509 · 27/04/2023 12:07

I’m pleased the COL payment is helping everyone out 🥰

We haven’t had ours yet, fortunately our bills are up to date, so I’m going to do a ‘ds food shop’ (autism), get him a pair of trainers, and just have a bit ‘spare’ for whatever we need.

thefamous5 · 27/04/2023 13:02

We did a massive shop. Filled the cupboards with tins and stuff so that it we have a lean time any time soon we are covered for food

They do, most universal credit claimants work.

Yes, if you are a low income worker with a child and savings under £16000 you should be eligible for UC.

Cherylliam86 · 27/04/2023 16:06

I am going to stick it in my savings as I’ve used quite a lot of savings over recent months… very grateful to receive it but instead of this I’d rather see food prices go down so we can actually bloody afford things we need!!

YouNeverSeeTheRealMe · 27/04/2023 16:14

What cost of living payment? My husband and I are surviving on £1060 a month (luckily mortgage paid off) but can't get UC because he gets a small private pension (included in that £1060). He's on SSP, I get PIP.

If you have a qualifying benefit you get a payment of £300 in the next few weeks, again in Autumn and next spring. Pip is a qualifying benefit.

iphone 14pro max just got it on argos card so going straight on that

Wow Hmm

ErikaReadsTheDailyMail · 27/04/2023 20:33

I mentioned this at work today and the colleague I was talking to was like "what's the point? It's not a lot of money"

I politely pointed out that if someone didn't think it was a lot of money then they probably didn't really need it!

Perhaps they used up the money that they would have spent on these things on, you know, the cost of living, and therefore are now able to "pay it back" to themselves?

Twillow · 27/04/2023 20:43

Well, towards the costs of living ...hopefully allowing me to go overdrawn a little later in the month! It used to be dodgy only in the last week - now it's the last fortnight and so those no-spend days are getting trickier and trickier.
