I'm £200 in debt to my gas and electricity supplier so I'll be paying that off to hopefully build up credit over the summer months ready for the winter. The other £101 I don't know yet.

What are you doing with yours?

Third of boiler mending cost £50 (I can't wait to have a bath, our boilers been broken for about a month and we've been having to use the kettle and pans of boiling water to fill it. It takes an hour and really hurts my back going up and down the stairs)

Money borrowed from my dad owed £100

Second hand chest of drawers as mine collapsed months ago £?

Stock freezer with whatever's left.

Melodybogwot · 27/04/2023 01:00

Of maybe, fags and weed, glue and speed...but I draws the line at crack!😂

Food ! It’s the approximate cost of a weeks shopping for us !!! It will really help

A weeks shopping? How many people does that feed? We spend a max of £500 a month on 3 adults.

A suggestion for anyone who can manage to save some of the money.

If you put it in a Help to Save account, you get 50% of the maximum account balance as a bonus after 2 years and a further bonus after 4 years (you can save up to £50 pm, don't have to pay in every month and can take money out if you need to) so it could be a good way to kick start saving if you're able to - those wanting to use it for electricity etc could always pay it into their electricity account later, this is just about making the money benefit you as much as possible).

I don't understand the snippy comments unless those posters are trying to make out I'm benefit bashing which would be weird seeing as I'm on benefits hence getting the payment.

It saddens me that some are struggling so muchFlowers

makes yep! Although we've had a calm few months after a huge amount of work from me. It would be amazing to have door handles that click shut and don't have white duck tape holding the locks together.

Melodybogwot · 27/04/2023 07:13

@AutisticLegoLover I wasn't at all thinking you were benefit bashing, I was just making a silly joke ❤
Im glad you started this thread, I was wondering myself what people would get with their money 😊

Okunevo · 27/04/2023 07:21

DS will need shoes for college by September, rest probably to help my sibling out. Are men's shoes more durable than school shoes in men's sizes? His start rite will have barely lasted a year, already coming away from the sole!

Herja · 27/04/2023 07:31

I'm going to pay the water bill. It's been due since March, so I should be able to sneak in without an angry red letter this time! (3 months from due before they get grumpy, I've found...) Buy the kids some summer clothes and stick £50 in the bank for DDs coming birthday. Bloody relieved to get shot of the water bill! I usually save through the year for it, but the winter energy bills took all that money, this time.

It's for the cost of living, not just utility bills. That includes food, clothing, car expenses. Marriage is part of life, as are pets that may have been acquired years ago.

I did this for the two years and just received the savings, it's enough to take the kids on holiday can't wait!! Shame you can't start it again great scheme

@Okunevo

I overheard the assistant in the shoe shop say to get school shoes as they are designed to be worn every day.

Yes these people should live their lives in misery(since we are keeping them) and never do anything like go to a family/friend wedding . Misery I tell you misery 🙄

My dog’s cremation 😭 Had to put it on a credit card. Might buy some nice food with the other £50.

I feel so angry that I didn’t cuddle my dog very much the night before he died as I was worrying so much about money.

Oh, darling💐
He would have known how much you loved him.

ladygindiva · 27/04/2023 09:08

Bills. Self employed and April was a BAD month, teacher strikes, school holidays and kids illnesses meant my productivity was not good and my children chose to have a huge growth spurt and need new shoes etc. The colp will stop me being overdrawn which is a relief.

Felucia · 27/04/2023 09:11

It makes me so sad how people are struggling. And I wish they would give the money to low income workers too.

BarbieWithAids · 27/04/2023 09:12

@Fluffyowl00 sorry about your loss. If you check with your pet insurers, this may be covered? Ours covers costs of cremation up to £200.
