What are you spending your cost of living payment on?

I'm £200 in debt to my gas and electricity supplier so I'll be paying that off to hopefully build up credit over the summer months ready for the winter. The other £101 I don't know yet.

What are you doing with yours?

Mine is going on to the credit card which has been used to top the gas meter up the last few months

Danikm151 · 26/04/2023 18:50

Mine is going towards a day out then a big stock up of the freezer that will last and £100 will be put aside to pay towards bills.

work are umming and ahhing about a payrise atm so struggling to keep up with rising bills so stocking up will help.

Dyerun · 26/04/2023 18:52

@WreckTangled pretty sure they use different assessment periods for UC for each payment

WreckTangled · 26/04/2023 18:55

Interesting, thank you. We’re struggling atm as we’ve moved house, still HA but rent is £180 a week and council tax is £270 a month, we can’t seem to catch a break.

KetoViking · 26/04/2023 18:57

Some of it is going towards DS's birthday which is only 2 weeks away and I was starting to really panic about. The rest on living expenses I think because I'm moving in with my fiance this very weekend so my payments are going to take a massive nosedive despite him being on minimum wage and a zero hours contract.

Moving out of temporary accommodation so luckily no debts to clear as I've taken the prepayment meters right up to the wire so I didn't put more money in than I would use!

I really feel for the people who need it who will miss out.

I missed the last one by a week of assessment period.

But after living on pretty much fuck all for months I also feel that it's a drop in the ocean of this fuck up of a crisis and like a king throwing pennies for the povs.

I'd much rather they fixed the ingrained issues in the system rather than dole out sops to keep us quiet.

Haven't received mine yet, when's it being paid in?

BadgerFacedCoo · 26/04/2023 19:00

Big shop.

Anytime between now and the 17th of May!

Helpful right? 🙄

Ohdearwhatnow4 · 26/04/2023 19:19

We had a small win, so paid all the bills and done massive food shop so not needed for that. Was going to save for a rainy day but worried it will just be squandered so going to buy September's school/college uniform/clothes (excluding shoes)

I missed out on the COL payment by something like three days as we only recently started claiming UC, does anyone know if all three payments are based on the same assessment period?

I hope it brings a little relief to those who receive it 💐

The next cost of living payment will be based on different dates, I hope you are eligible then.

Mine has gone straight to my electricity account. My bill has gone up £50 a month so that will cover 6 months worth of increase.

The other two payments will be based on different assessment dates but the dates haven’t been confirmed. This page will be updated when they are.

I have to pay about £400 to our estate management company so it's all going to go on that 😐

TChelp6 · 26/04/2023 20:49

No idea if I’ll get one because my last payment was in the assessment date but now I’ve been told I’ve been overpaid 🙃 so guess where any sort of payment will be going 😅

JimnJoyce · 26/04/2023 20:53

A psychiatrist appointment for DD

GarlicGrace · 26/04/2023 20:56

A cleaner! I'm desperate. Hoping 20 hours will be enough to make the difference.

Fluffyowl00 · 26/04/2023 21:02

My dog’s cremation 😭 Had to put it on a credit card. Might buy some nice food with the other £50.

I feel so angry that I didn’t cuddle my dog very much the night before he died as I was worrying so much about money.

sittingonacornflake · 26/04/2023 21:04

I was planning to pay my next 6 months' parking permit which is £275 so yay maybe also a takeaway'

ElWantsACuggle · 26/04/2023 21:04

Does anyone know the criteria of the payment if someone is receipt of PIP (higher rate living, standard mobility), please?

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 26/04/2023 21:09

My washing machine just died, so when it comes in I'll be treating to myself to a new washer.
Exciting. Grin

Into our savings so we can afford to attend our friends' wedding this summer. We're MOH and best man and have 2 DC who will be attending too. So we have outfit costs (DH's is covered but we need to buy for the rest of us), 2 nights in the hotel, food costs for the night before, and then the horribly inflated bar costs at the venue (a wedding at the same venue well before Covid cost us around £200 at the bar for the day so we have no idea what the prices will be like now). And that's before we think of a gift for them.

pavillion1 · 26/04/2023 21:11

It's like going on a thread asking what your cat is called to tell people you don't have a cat.
🤣🤣

Lwrenagain · 26/04/2023 21:18

214 tins of heinz beans? 😁

Mooshamoo · 26/04/2023 21:39

Who gets the cost of living payment?

AutisticLegoLover · 26/04/2023 21:52

I've decided that seeing as the debt to my fuel supplier isn't accruing interest then I'm not going to pay it off but let it naturally decrease and hopefully be cleared over the summer. The money is better tucked away in my savings than adding to the profits of the fuel company. Then if my payments are increased in the winter I have the payment in savings to fall back on. My savings are currently £20 so it will be a welcome addition and a safety net. I too wish they'd sort out the problems rather than band-aid them.
