I was going to have lunch with a friend today who suggested weatherspoons (cheap and cheerful). I could not believe that their 3 small plates have increased from £10 to £15! Which led me onto thinking what else has jumped up a considerable amount product wise! We shop at Aldi so I haven't noticed a big difference YET.

Oh I don’t know, think you had it right the first time! (Stares at chonky cat eating her own weight in food)

😂😂😂

Funnily enough, my present two are the slimmest cats I've every lived with! They're two rescues who came to me on their present regime, and just won't each anything else. Guess who is on the basics in this house!

Butter

We've gone back to marge in plastic tubs.

Ive had to switch the lines the canned food as it's much cheaper per 100g (a sachets worth).

12 cans is £9.50,a box of 48 sachets (same weight in food) is £12.90

@duckingella I would much rather use cans, better value and can be recycled, unfortunately DCat refuses to eat anything other than pouches.

AloudAlot · 01/03/2023 12:01

@wineymummy the pouches can be recycled in soft plastic schemes once clean. Pets at home collect them or the soft plastic collections at Tesco, co-op etc.

I also have a cat that refuses food out of a tin, even if it’s the same brand as the pouches!

For Tesco shoppers, I'd recommend getting a Clubcard if you haven't already got one. Tesco have 'Clubcard prices' on some items which can be a real moneysaver: you pay a completely different price if you use a Clubcard when checking out, & it can save pounds just on one item. They also have quite a lot of offers on & off Clubcard - there are some things I try not to buy unless they're on offer (Lurpak, particularly😱). And you get money-off/extra-points-on vouchers for product types AND a points total every so often.

Also, if you use their Delivery Saver scheme, you pay a set amount each month but deliveries are free, so you save on the cost of those. And there are other benefits to it.

I don't work for Tesco! We just settled on them as our regular delivery during Covid & have stayed with them, with occasional Sainsburys orders for things we can't get elsewhere, plus a very useful M&S at the local petrol station for treats.

£4.49 for a family pack of cooked ham in Lidl today. One of the few things I didn't check until I looked at the receipt, because it's a basic for pack lunches isn't it.

daffodilandtulip · 01/03/2023 14:18

"I know it's a hassle, but if you're sure do query the price at customer services.

Usually the supermarkets will honour the shelf edge price - but do check that it is the correct product. Rather than leaving gaps on the shelves many shops are filling them with other items."

Our local store have very cleverly and sneakily put a sign on the door saying shelf prices may be incorrect due to price changes, these cannot be changed at the till.

DS took his wife out for lunch last month. He saw gammon and chips on the menu £18.50. when it came gammon was a medallion sized piece, handful of chips and a tablespoon of peas. He was stunned and won't be returning there.

Serves him right for ordering gammon - there are always better options than gammon Wink

£1.99 for a cucumber yesterday. Suffice to say I went without.

Wow

Think 69/89p at Aldi last week

Which shop is that? I use Tesco and Sainsburys regularly and haven't seen any signs there.

@Ariela I can help you with the tunnocks teacakes...boxes of 10 in Lidl for £1.49

daffodilandtulip · 01/03/2023 17:11

@Solmum1964 a mini tesco express thing

Kittylitter1 · 01/03/2023 18:27

I agree cat litter costs are through the roof and cat food!

Have you seen the Tesco own brand cat litter only £1.95 for a 10 litre bag. It's the best price out there, so I've been buying that every week. Click the link to see on the Tesco website.

Thank you. I'll keep an eye out but I do tend to use the bigger stores.

SunnySnowdrop · 01/03/2023 21:08

I replied earlier but doing my online shop with Tesco this evening stuff has gone up again!

Birdseye dippers from £5 to £5.25

Packs of 4 choc bars from 1.25 to 1.35

Heinz bbq sauce £3.90 (570ml)

IntheSnowySnowyMountains · 01/03/2023 23:47

Crinkle crisps - from €1.50 to €2.00 for 6x30g (33% increase)

Fresh semi-skimmed milk - from €1.08 a litre to €1.34 (24% increase)

Own brand semi-salted butter - from €3.95 to €4.58 for 500g (only 16%, but seems a lot as it was expensive in the first place!)

Loose black tea - from €4.45 to €5.55 for 100g (25%)

Most things seem to have gone up by about 10%.

But that's still half as much again & it's a very long walk to Lidl or pay 80p parking.... I'm looking for £1.20-1.30. We're buying Marks ones as a treat now.

Sallylovesdaisy · 04/03/2023 13:32

@Ariela just spotted Tunnocks tea cakes £1.10 for 6 pack in Asda, a bit cheaper. Just treated us to a box, and they're as scrummy as always

Dollyparton3 · 04/03/2023 13:35

Bolognaise sauce this morning in Tesco £4.50. Checked an online delivery receipt and paid £2.55 for the same jar December 2022. Daylight robbery!

What item price increase has shocked you the most?
Cadburysucks · 04/03/2023 13:46

Just an observation from another thread about shoplifting, I wonder if these price increases reflect that. Companies want to recuperate their loss this way, I wouldn't be surprised to be honest.

Dippydinosaurus · 04/03/2023 13:49

Bisto was £1.99 in Lidl today was amazed after seeing price hikes everywhere else. My whole weekly shop at Lidl was £150 though compared to £120 at Tesco last week. Both extortionate but was surprised at Lidl being so expensive

ancientgran · 04/03/2023 17:59

I did a shop at Lidl today and while I think it was still cheaper than Sainsbury's the gap is certainly closing. Quite depressing.
