I was going to have lunch with a friend today who suggested weatherspoons (cheap and cheerful). I could not believe that their 3 small plates have increased from £10 to £15! Which led me onto thinking what else has jumped up a considerable amount product wise! We shop at Aldi so I haven't noticed a big difference YET.

12 pouches of cat food in Tesco (own brand.) £2.25 to £3.60 now I think.

Ive had to switch the lines the canned food as it's much cheaper per 100g (a sachets worth).

12 cans is £9.50,a box of 48 sachets (same weight in food) is £12.90

CornishGem1975 · 01/03/2023 08:07

@justasking111 I said exactly that the other day. Wine hasn't gone up at all!

Duckingella · 01/03/2023 08:13

Chicken;thé cost is ridiculous;I can't justify £12 for enough chicken breasts to make a curry etc for the 6 of us in our house.Have had to start buying chicken thighs but the ones with skin and bone on/in as the boneless ones are getting expensive too;I cut the skin/bone off/out myself

Same here - although it was £23 to £30, and there isn't a comparable service available cheaper anywhere else, so no point in leaving (or pretending to leave so they'll offer me a better deal).

Why not? It doesn’t matter what other services are out there. All you have to do is go to the retentions dept to say you’d like to cancel. They say they’re sorry they can’t give you a better deal so you proceed to cancel. A few days later the cancellations team call and they have the power to offer you your original deal. It’s a faff but it’s the way the Virgin dance works. They’ve even said on Twitter that they’ve brought in more staff to do it all 😁

@tsmainsqueeze thanks about the Vimto! We found it in H&M too but I'm pretty sure the bottle are a litre and the cheap ones 750ml!

Suet. I'm sure it was just over a pound last time I bought it, perhaps about a year ago.

We needed some for dumplings and I was in M&S and saw they had it for £2.10. I thought it was a bit expensive, but I was there so got some. Checked the price at the other supermarkets using trolley.co.uk (great app btw for comparing prices) and it was THREE POUNDS A BOX everywhere else.

So I don't know what was more shocking, the fact that suet has nearly tripled in price in a year, or that the cheapest place to get it by far is M&S.

ifonly4 · 01/03/2023 08:51

Fat food comes to mind. I used to be able to buy two boxes for £7, they're now £5 each. We have two of the little monsters so get through quite a bit.

ifonly4 · 01/03/2023 08:52

Cat not fat!

Rebel2 · 01/03/2023 08:53

My car insurance! Gone from £380 to £585
No thanks
I drive 2000 miles a year in a car with the power of a hairdryer

I went to an insurance broker , low mileage no claims. Gone up from £131 to £150. Try a broker they're cheaper than online

Is that just your auto renewal quote, though?

SunnySnowdrop · 01/03/2023 09:00

£5.50 for the large bistro gravy granule tubs

Mr Kipling cakes, ridiculous.

BBQ sauce (a staple for ARFID child) £3.50+

Birdseye chicken nuggets £5 for a bag of 38 (another ARFID staple so difficult to switch)

Surely they will all do themselves out of business when no one can afford the branded stuff?

Rebel2 · 01/03/2023 09:03

@GoodChat it is but it says that's the price I would get as a new customer too

Off to do comparison sites. I'm only in a 1.2 polo with 8 years no claims

Give them a call as well. They'll almost always lower it.

I had a very similar renewal quote to you. Called them and told me admiral had quoted me £200 less and now I'm paying about 50p a month less than last year

Kitchen roll. Over £5 for 4.

£5.25 for 2(!!) rolls of plenty in asda! I know it's because it's plenty but bloody hell, it was put straight back 😳

TheYearOfSmallThings · 01/03/2023 09:13

Though I do walk around the supermarket saying "fuck off" at a lot a prices now...

Yes I do that too!

whereeverilaymycat · 01/03/2023 09:26

Probably coffee. Our preferred brand is over £8 now and I can't justify that.

sentientpuddle · 01/03/2023 10:20

Heinz baked beans, butter (supermarket brand), HP sauce etc.
Cupboard basics and staples really!

Saltisford · 28/02/2023 21:54

In Sainsburys, chicken thigh fillets are now more than chicken breast fillets… 💁

Just looked at Tesco online and it's cheaper to buy 1kg chicken thighs fresh rather than frozen. It always used to be the other way round!

Oh I don’t know, think you had it right the first time! (Stares at chonky cat eating her own weight in food)

Ha, and me. There's a few times DP has said "did you get X?" And I respond with the price rather than a yes or no!

Paxo stuffing - £2.40 for the normal size. Used to be so much cheaper. Went for Tesco own brand at 46p

I actually prefer the Tesco one.

GachaBread · 28/02/2023 23:33

I have too many products to list that are making my jaw drop.

But is anyone noticing how many product price labels are incorrect lately?

When you get to the tills the product costs more then it stated. It's like the stores can't even keep up with this madness.

It's happening to me quite a lot.

I know it's a hassle, but if you're sure do query the price at customer services.

Usually the supermarkets will honour the shelf edge price - but do check that it is the correct product. Rather than leaving gaps on the shelves many shops are filling them with other items.

Barefoot Merlot Californian red - £6 two weeks ago in Tesco now £7.50! A lovely tasting wine so I'm gutted. Heinz soup £1.70 a tin 😱I stick to own brand soup now.

That makes me so glad I bought six bottles with my last big shop. £6 a bottle, less 25% for buying 6 then another 10% off with my Clubcard Plus app. Worked out at just over £4 a bottle (wish I'd brought more now!)
