And do you have the heating on?

I thought it was a bit chilly this morning/last night but moving around today it was ok (hoovering etc)
We are sitting on the couch tonight with blankets, and ds just commented it seems to be warmer to night than last night. Checked the thermostat and we are sitting at 15.5 degrees. But we are ok tbh.

How warm is your house tonight?

(No heating yet and I think we are doing ok feeling cold wise iyswim? None of the kids have complained yet! Although we have a box of blankets by the couch. Have put up an extra set of double lines curtains on the main "cold" windows, put in extra foam on windows that were a bit leaky and tend to go to bed earlyish)

14.8. No heating on.

Livelovebehappy · 16/11/2022 21:35

It’s bloody cold. I’ve come to bed to read just to keep warm. It’s an awful way to live but what choice have we got? I’m scared to death of putting the heating on, even for an hour.

TolkiensFallow · 16/11/2022 21:36

House is 16.5 and we haven’t had the heating on yet this year. I generally put it on under 15.5 but trying to hold out this year. I had a childhood of getting dressed under the “sheets/blanket/quilt” and ice on the inside of the windows so this borderline balmy, thankfully!

MarshaBradyo · 16/11/2022 21:36

19.5 heating on for an hour at 4ish

OddBoots · 16/11/2022 21:36

We could afford to put the heating up, we would have to be careful elsewhere but nothing major like food.

We will use the heating where we need to and won't let the house get damp but while the price we are paying for our energy is being subsidised by the government and now we know what we do about climate change it only feels right to have a little caution.

newtb · 16/11/2022 21:36

8°C, it's rented and the storage heaters have stopped working.

NellesVilla · 16/11/2022 21:37

Mine’s on at 24 degrees but I’m in a very old house and I don’t pay the bills thank f.

But then again, I can’t afford my own house and I’m just looking after this one to help someone else out (works for both of us and I actually need the heating on to counteract damp etc).

Passanotherjaffacake · 16/11/2022 21:38

Have a toddler and small baby so our heating is in and it’s about 18/19 degrees. We have it on for a hour in the morning and two hours before the little ones go to bed. We caved when it got to 16 degrees and our toddler was clearly feeling really chilly.

theswoot · 16/11/2022 21:40

Thermostat is in the living room and it’s saying 20.7. Like to keep it warm for the dog as he feels the cold. Other parts of the house are cooler as radiators are turned down and/or windows open. Heating has clicked on a couple of times for short periods today. We work from home a lot and can afford the heating so able to heat to my preference, but usually in a couple of layers as well!

ReallyITV · 16/11/2022 21:40

19 and off now. Need to heat house as have little kids

Forever42 · 16/11/2022 21:40

We have our heating set to 18, from 5pm to 10pm. Got back at 5.30 today and the temperature was only 16.5 although the heating had been on for half an hour so the house had obviously got quite chilly during the day. The temperatures have been cooler today than they have for some time.

I would rather have the heating around 20 degrees but DH doesn't feel the cold and doesn't like it higher (he would happily not have it on at all....). We aren't saving anything on bills as we only have it at 18 every year.

TheOrigRights · 16/11/2022 21:41

Dunno - ancient thermostat.
We are comfortable but I am up and about doing stuff so i had it on earlier and it's off now.
The boiler is noisy so I turn it off when DS goes to bed. When I sit down later I'll use my wool crochet blanket and be fine, and have a hot water bottle in bed.
Small house. Pretty new windows and doors.
I've had the heating on and off and will continue to use it as normal.
The timer doesn't work so I have to turn it on and off myself. Means it's a bit chilly in the morning but I grew up with no central heating so it's ermmm nostalgic?

LaGioconda · 16/11/2022 21:41

16 on the thermostat in the hall. Just put the heating on for a quick burst.

Hollytreenew · 16/11/2022 21:42

Mine was 13.6 this evening so I did put the heating in for an hour for the first time this year. It got it up to about 15.

CatSeany · 16/11/2022 21:43

We have it set to 18.5. Thermostat is in the kitchen and in the day always reads higher than the rest of the house due to cooking and the dryer being on. Overnight it comes on a bit which I could do without, but need because of drying clothes on radiators. Double edged sword between heating being unnecessary for comfort and necessary for clothes not stinking of damp.

Narwhalsh · 16/11/2022 21:43

Daytime thermostat set for 17 degrees, off at night and drops a degree or so so far but we are asleep under cosy duvets. Hasn’t been very cold outside really yet this winter. We have a log burner too we put on for an extra boost but I’d say we have acclimatised to 17. We are sub-40yo and with a couple of small kids, in good health and no underlying conditions, doesn’t feel like we are risking any one’s well being!

Withnoshoes · 16/11/2022 21:46

16.5 we had the heating on mid morning until it got to 19. ( was 6/7degrees outside early on!) Then it has been off. The house was aired with windows open when we got up and while I was going yoga before the heating went on. If it feels very cold in an evening it will go on for an hour but under blanket and ok.

Just trying to save money for when it’s properly cold and we need it more! But by the end of October even tho heating wasn’t needed as still warm outside the house was feeling cold and almost damp so the heating is on most days for an hour now.

pimlicoanna · 16/11/2022 21:46

20 degrees. No heating on

Pasc611 · 16/11/2022 21:47

It's 8 degrees in my kitchen and 9 degrees in all other rooms. No double glazing, big windows, can't afford heating. In mid winter there will be swirly ice patterns on the inside of the windows and the shower freezes so it won't work when there's a freeze.. All the textiles in the house feel dampish.
I have bad asthma, which appeared 3 years ago in later life.

Fireballxl5 · 16/11/2022 21:49

Too warm, we have a log burner and it’s 24c. Tbf it heats most of the house because we leave the doors open.

Geansai · 16/11/2022 21:50

I gave in last week and started putting it on for an hour or two every day. I had noticed mould was starting to appear on window ledge. It helps with drying clothes too. Today has been the coldest so was on for a bit longer. Generally do oodies and blankets, it has been quite mild up to now. My house is quite good at retaining heat and the living room gets the winter sun for most of the day. I have always been conscious of heating though as none of us like very warm rooms.

OldTinHat · 16/11/2022 21:50

My thermostat is old dial one. I keep it at zero so it the heating doesn't come on. I've just twisted it round, lowest setting is 12 and it clicked on straight away so my house is colder than 12, I guess.

LulooLemon · 16/11/2022 21:51

20.8

Heating was on earlier, but is not on now. We are lucky to have a generally warm house - double glazing, new roof, deep loft insulation.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 16/11/2022 21:52

House is currently 20 degrees, according to the thermostat. No heating atm, but I do have my fleecy dressing gown on, and a cat in my lap.

CrunchyCarrot · 16/11/2022 21:52

It's usually around 18.5 to 19 in the house by day. At night it falls to around 17.5 before the heating kicks in. Yes, the heating is on!

I could absolutely not tolerate 15 C. Even 17 and I'm cold. DP is worse than me, he would like the thermostat set higher!
