And do you have the heating on?

I thought it was a bit chilly this morning/last night but moving around today it was ok (hoovering etc)
We are sitting on the couch tonight with blankets, and ds just commented it seems to be warmer to night than last night. Checked the thermostat and we are sitting at 15.5 degrees. But we are ok tbh.

How warm is your house tonight?

(No heating yet and I think we are doing ok feeling cold wise iyswim? None of the kids have complained yet! Although we have a box of blankets by the couch. Have put up an extra set of double lines curtains on the main "cold" windows, put in extra foam on windows that were a bit leaky and tend to go to bed earlyish)

Mines 14, haven't used the heating yet. I am cold sitting downstairs but warm in bed. How are people managing 20 plus with no heating?

We're in a mid terrace. Plus the oven was on for a while, cooking a casserole.

Theoldwoman · 16/11/2022 22:42

Nearly summer here.
Its nearly 6:45am.
Currently 19 degrees.

PurpleButterflyWings · 16/11/2022 22:45

15C. No it's not on right now. I would find having the thermostat on 20-21C+ unbearable, and the gas bill would be astronomical, because the bastard boiler wouldn't be off between late October and early March!!!

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 16/11/2022 22:45

22.1 in the lounge as weve had the fire going, dining room is 20.2 (sort of open plan so fire heats both) kitchen is 18.

Upstairs is 18.2 in DD's room, 16.8 in our room which is fine as we sleep with the window open anyway and bathroom is lovely and toasty at 19 as we have an oil filled radiator on low in there as even if we put the heating on it never gets warm and i refuse to have a cold bathroom.

DS is in the loft and his room is 18.4

We havent used the heating at all yet as the fire is doing a good job of heating downstairs and so far the kids rooms ĥavent dropped below 17.

PurpleButterflyWings · 16/11/2022 22:45

Actually overnight it's on 12C.

TenoringBehind · 16/11/2022 22:46

16 degrees in most of the house, including my bedroom (where I am now)

aga is on permanently and I lit the wood burner this evening, so it will be about 20 in those rooms.

Purplecatshopaholic · 16/11/2022 22:46

Heating now off for the night, currently 22.5 which is about right. Heating on earlier as it’s Baltic outside.

han01uk · 16/11/2022 22:49

Thermostat set at 16, heating hasn't been on yet this year. I did need a hot water bottle last night which was the first time so far! I may be perimenopausal though, but no one else is complaining too much about the cold!

gogohmm · 16/11/2022 22:52

19 currently in my bedroom, heating didn't come on this evening because the thermostat is set at 18. Still mild in the daytime here

Turtletotem · 16/11/2022 22:54

It's been 12° in my house since I got home from work at 6 this evening. I've had a hot water bottle and blanket all evening.
I'm too worried to turn the heating on because of the cost

gogohmm · 16/11/2022 22:54

@HappyHolidai

I've never had my heating above 18, as far as health, central heating isn't necessarily good for it. I personally don't like a warm bedroom either. Managed to get to middle age with no ill effects.

tillyandmilly · 16/11/2022 22:55

14 degrees here - howling wind - feeling cold but about to go and put some thicker pyjamas on - our boiler is on its way out but can’t afford a new one at mo!

GyozaGuiting · 16/11/2022 22:56

Ours is at 17 and it doesn’t feel cold at all. Why would 17 cause respiratory illness? We’ve no Damp, and it feels fine in here. 20 would be too hot and stuffy for me!

LolaSmiles · 16/11/2022 22:59

Depending on the time of day ours will come on at 18⁰, 16⁰ or be off.

We've never been heavy central heating users though so this is no different to normal for us.

Cold temperatures and breathing in cold air can impair lung function.

It causes condensation dampness, the little spores get into your system and can result in respiratory illness, for humans to remain healthy the world health organisation says we should not have our homes below 18

frenchfancy81 · 16/11/2022 23:13

23.12 at night and it is now 18.4 but turned down to 17 for overnight.

QS90 · 16/11/2022 23:22

Thermometer says 15 degrees in toddlers room, 15.6 in my room. I'm sat in a duvet and t-shirt and don't feel cold at all - am wondering if I'm just getting used to the new "normal" temperatures (presumably the body adapts?). I do blast the rooms with my UVC lamp in case of mould, and keep the window vents open. I figure if it's going to be cold anyway, it might as well be ventilated. Have noticed we all have low level but persistent coughs in our house though, that we didn't have before the winter.

Aside from not being able to afford heating, don't want to put it on because fuck Shell that's why.

SouperNoodle · 16/11/2022 23:28

We have the heating set to 16/16.5
Any colder than that and I start feeling unwell

healthadvice123 · 16/11/2022 23:31

My thermostat set to 10 not come on yet, bit chilly tonight but in bed with duvet etc but warm enough earlier and at work all day
Newish build an well insulated and had my tumble dryer on for a little while which heated downstairs
Expecting heating to go on for first time by weekend as clothes just not drying , yet its not actually cold in the house

rattlinbog · 16/11/2022 23:33

17.5 degrees, comes on 6-7am and 5-7pm. We also have a heater in the living room that we have on low in the evenings.

saleorbouy · 16/11/2022 23:36

@MadameDe · Today 20:47

My thermostat has been set at 18 degrees recently. Last night I woke up freezing in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep. Tonight my heating is going on full blast and I'll worry about the consequences later.

I don't understand why you would not just increase the thermostat up a degree or put extra bedding on the bed. Full blast is not really necessary particularly if you are worried about the consequences later on.

tobee · 16/11/2022 23:39

Just checked my hive app and it says hot water and heating offline. Angryagain Angry. About 6 times this week!

Heating wasn't meant to be on anyway but hot water was. Have my infrared heater on in living room but that's all atm.

Have to go through the usual Get Hive Back Online rigmarole again now. Then I might know the house temperature.

Laneyy · 16/11/2022 23:42

21 life's too short to be cold I'd rather eat beans on toast. Grew up in a freezing house heating is one of the priorities to me. Not having to make cut backs right now but it would be one of the last things i cut down.

ThatsRoughBuddy · 16/11/2022 23:45

It was 16° at 3.30pm today so I put the heating on for 40 minutes so it was warm when my DS got home. House has excellent insulation so it’s 19° degrees still.
