What temp is your house right now?

And do you have the heating on?

I thought it was a bit chilly this morning/last night but moving around today it was ok (hoovering etc)
We are sitting on the couch tonight with blankets, and ds just commented it seems to be warmer to night than last night. Checked the thermostat and we are sitting at 15.5 degrees. But we are ok tbh.

How warm is your house tonight?

(No heating yet and I think we are doing ok feeling cold wise iyswim? None of the kids have complained yet! Although we have a box of blankets by the couch. Have put up an extra set of double lines curtains on the main "cold" windows, put in extra foam on windows that were a bit leaky and tend to go to bed earlyish)

But the Mumsnet competitive cold brigade can almost all afford their heating, going on all the discussions about far fancier lifestyles than my own!

I am.most definitely NOT part of the competitive cold brigade!!
I reckon I earn less than most mners, even working full time. I dont have a fancy lifestyle at all. I dont go out, don't go the pub, no sky tv subscription, no fancy clothes, no fancy car, dont do holiday either in the uk and definitely not abroad! Work in retail so well below the fullt time average wage for the uk. Yet still dont qualify for anything benefits wise as on paper dh has a well paying job, but is currently off on long term sick. (Think almost a year so things have been getting tighter and tighter. )
But this wasn't a thread about saving money. It was more a discussion about the temp and how I thought I would br cold but I'm not feeling it as much as I thought.

Not sure. Thermostat dial set just under 20° but heating on a timer too so only on for about 5 hours a day in total.
We were getting damp after a roof leak so its been on twice a day and I've just got a dehumidifier. Its just been such a damp autumn we've needed it on sometimes.
Still use blankets etc and its on much less than previous years.
But the damp was too much!

lljkk · 16/11/2022 21:14

16.1 downstairs & feels colder upstairs. I just put heating on, think it's 1st time heating has been on all day, & I have a hot water in bed with me.

IncessantNameChanger · 16/11/2022 21:14

Isotherm anything like hive for condenser boilers? After regilously not haven't the heating on for as long as possible, it got down to 13 one day and that was too cold. It was on for about 40 minutes early before dark and its just over 20 now.

I think it's better putting it early before it gets dark as it heats up better, or it seems too

bumblebeemumma · 16/11/2022 21:15

16 degrees and thats after having the heating on for an hour while my two older kids showered and got ready for bed. They're tucked up asleep now so the heating is off and we're downstairs with blankets on the sofa, two pairs of socks and slippers on Smile. Two younger babies in bed wearing fleece onesies over their pyjamas which we've bought specifically to keep them warmer at night as we just can't afford to run the heating for hours on end like we usually would when the weather turns colder.

00kitty · 16/11/2022 21:15

Apparently 19c but our thermostat is above a radiator so I’m never sure if it thinks it’s hotter than it is?

downstairs seems ok, upstairs is cold

Maybe it’s different posters? There are around 6 million users, so I doubt it’s the same ones posting on every thread. I’m sure the ones who have 5 bed houses in central london and privately educate their children aren’t the same ones who can’t afford to have their hearing on.

downanduppy · 16/11/2022 21:18

17 degrees in our lounge and have not had the heating on. We do have enormous thick duvets on the couch though.

LargeglassofRosePlease · 16/11/2022 21:18

Ours is on zero. It’s not on at all. I’m a bit weird and have the windows open too… definitely peri menopausal… 😫🙄

DipmeinChoc · 16/11/2022 21:18

Currently 21.5 but its set to 17.5, must still be warm from earlier today.

Dilbertian · 16/11/2022 21:18

15.5

We haven't had the heating on yet, but the house is reasonably well-insulated and it hasn't dropped lower than that yet, not even overnight. There are only 3 of us living at home right now, and the absentees made a real difference in the warmth of occupied rooms.

We have had to turn on the low-power electric towel rail, as towels weren't drying overnight. Laundry dries fine on the airer in the kitchen, so I suspect that the occupied rooms are warmer than 15.5 degrees.

It's not competitive. We have never been in a rush to turn the heating on. Our thermostat has always been set to 18. We like our jumpers and slippers, and snuggling under blankets. But 15 is our limit. Any lower and the heating will probably be switched on.

That’s clearly not the case here, get a grip

Teadrinkingmumofone · 16/11/2022 21:19

20.5. Haven't had the heating on.

I have the windows open too and it's pouring with rain here. Also peri menopausal.

BeyondMyWits · 16/11/2022 21:22

21, heating on. We luckily fixed our energy prices in the spring at a rate lower than the current cap.

ShadowNight · 16/11/2022 21:23

Ours is on 19 degrees. Not had the heating on, but it's a new build, so well insulated, and we've had the dryer and oven on today which help to heat the house.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 16/11/2022 21:24

18 degrees in our living room, heating not currently on but I've switched two of the storage heaters to come on tonight as I have two airers full of washing to dry.

I will take a hot water bottle up to bed tonight, it's cooler upstairs.

talkingmorenonsense · 16/11/2022 21:24

16c

shangelawasrobbed · 16/11/2022 21:27

Currently at 18.5 and feeling comfortable with a couple of layers on (vest/pyjamas/dressing gown). The heating has kicked in. We keep it at 18/19 during the day and 16 overnight - we have an 11 month old so want to keep the house warm if we can.

Anjelika · 16/11/2022 21:29

16c here too. I don't use the thermostat. Would normally have heating on twice a day using timer then blast at other times if needed. However with it being mild until now I have just been manually putting it on if needed - half an hour in the morning and again early evening. Currently sat under heated throw and taking a hot water bottle to bed every night.

Wazzzzzuuuuuuup · 16/11/2022 21:32

17.7 here. HIVE tells me the heating has been on for 2h 30 today and it hasn't been warmer than 18 degrees. Honestly, it feels OK down to 16.5 ish with my warm socks. Any less than that and I start to feel cold. If I'm wfh I need a minimum of 18 degrees or is start to get creeping cold from my hands all the way up my arms.

NCFT0922 · 16/11/2022 21:33

19.5 degrees, heating is on. Will go down over night but goes on at 19 at 6.30am so it’s nice and warm ready for the children waking up. I have always put their uniform / clothes for the next day on the radiators at night through the winter so when they’re ready to get dressed in the morning, they’re nice and toasty. I do the same with their pyjamas when we’re having dinner, again so they’re warm for after their baths.

dizzygirl1 · 16/11/2022 21:33

Wfh today and it was 16 so I was sat in a blanket and cold the majority of the day. I put the heating on a bit early at 5 as we were cold and then it went off at 9, 19 degrees and feels OK.

GOODCAT · 16/11/2022 21:34

Room temperature is 16.5 degrees. Like the OP I am surprised we are comfortable at that with a blanket.

Thinking about it I don't get home from work until quite late, immediately cook and eat hot food and/or hot drink and get about 30 minutes after tea to sit down before going to bed.

I am also at the hot flush phase of life so actively want to be cold before going to bed as I get a massive hot flush 10 minutes later.

BigScreen · 16/11/2022 21:34

16.5
I don't feel the cold like others do due to Multiple Sclerosis. I'm very warm, still no duvet on the bed (just a sheet and a blanket) with windows open.

Hate being warm, kills my energy levels.
