What temp is your house right now?

And do you have the heating on?

I thought it was a bit chilly this morning/last night but moving around today it was ok (hoovering etc)
We are sitting on the couch tonight with blankets, and ds just commented it seems to be warmer to night than last night. Checked the thermostat and we are sitting at 15.5 degrees. But we are ok tbh.

How warm is your house tonight?

(No heating yet and I think we are doing ok feeling cold wise iyswim? None of the kids have complained yet! Although we have a box of blankets by the couch. Have put up an extra set of double lines curtains on the main "cold" windows, put in extra foam on windows that were a bit leaky and tend to go to bed earlyish)

21 right now - turned the heating on from 7pm - 8pm because I wanted a bath and the bathroom was chilly. It was 17 most of the day (heating not on), which is fine. Not felt cold at night yet (west of Ireland).

northernlola · 16/11/2022 20:55

@Activelyannoyed point taken. I meant from a resilience point of view, not congratulations. Clearly none of us should be in this predicament and we should all be able to heat our homes to comfort, including the poor!

TicTacFrenzy · 16/11/2022 20:55

@Activelyannoyed that was my point, I thought we would be but we are ok. Blanket on the couch for sure, and have jumpers on.
We do have a small dehumidifier too but not put iron yet except if we have a load of washing drying on the landing. I rigged up tw poes across the top of the stairs - on that high ceiling space you get iyswim- and we hang clothes there to dry. Its good as if the windows are closed, heat rises and the landing window is open then they air out.
I am aware of damp/mould issues below certain temperatures and we air the house out each day. Landing as above. Ds room quite often has the window open as they run hot. The bathroom window is always open for showers and I often find I get home from work and the last dc to use it hasn't closed it up before leaving the house in the am so it is wide open <rolls eyes>

No idea what the temp is but we usually only put the heating on when it goes below 15 or so. I was a bit chilly earlier so put on my oodie but now I’m sweating 🥵

RefuseTheLies · 16/11/2022 20:58

The gro clock says it’s 20 degrees in the bedroom. I am under a duvet and feel ok.

Aubree17 · 16/11/2022 20:58
  1. From 6am - 7pm. House is fairly well insulated so retains heat well.

Ok op. I’m glad it’s good for you 💐

TicTacFrenzy · 16/11/2022 20:58

To be clear, the eye roll is at them not closing the window. If we had the heating on I would be paying to heat the neighbourhood air as it would literally go out the window!

17.5 here. had the heating on for an hour for 3yr olds early bath (I got in too!) then we were all In pjs socks and dressing gowns for dinner before she went to bed with her hot water bottle. Radiators are cold now but we're not feeling cold. We invested in new insulation and window blinds for the oldest windows which has deff made a difference.

ofwarren · 16/11/2022 21:01

18.2 now but earlier it was 17.4 and felt chilly.
I used a hot water bottle and haven't turned on the heating.

NewBootsAndRanty · 16/11/2022 21:01

18° with heating on at the moment.
I had my thermostat set at 15 in the daytime today and my heating kicked in.

I've got my first winter with a COPD diagnosis coming up, and the recommended temp is 18 in living rooms and 15 in bedrooms.

I've qualified for the warm home discount, along with COL payments, which helps a LOT.

I'm dreading the price rise in April/next year's winter bills.

17, in the room I'm in. Heating off elsewhere. Above 16 has felt ok, but if it's dropped below 16 it's started to feel like it isn't a particularly healthy environment to be sitting still in. That might be because the air has a bit of damp to it though. I have a dehumidifier on the way; keen to see if it makes a difference there.

I think humidity makes a difference, we have a dehumidifier and I use it to keep us below 60% most of the time.

TicTacFrenzy · 16/11/2022 21:02

Oh blinds and curtains make such a huge difference! We had curtains, not lined, on the patio style doors. Put up a set of lined ones behind it that I got at the charity shop for a fiver so now has 3 layers. There was a window in the lower landing (you know, where the stairs turn) that just had a net and the back kitchen door had a window too. Covered both if these over with another double lined set. The next morning we definitely noticed it was warmer!

I turned on my heat on Monday. It was 11 degrees out and I was feeling it. With all the rain it just feels colder.
The temp is set to 18 and the thermostat is in quite a warm part of the house so it's generally a bit colder elsewhere. Today it didn't click on at all.

TheHauntedPencilCase · 16/11/2022 21:03

15.4 in the living room with the fire on for 2 hours (no central heating on). I'm going to bed soon as feeling a bit chilly, we usually put the fire on at 5 but was out today and that gets us up to 17 in here.

BrewandBiscuit · 16/11/2022 21:03

22 as the heating has been on for half an hour. Turning it off now but I don’t let it go below 19 but I prefer it at 20. I have a small child and his health is more important than my bill

Linnet · 16/11/2022 21:03

My heating isn’t on and it’s not connected to a thermometer, if I want the heating on I need to switch it on/put on the timer.

I have however bought a room thermometer just out of interest and it says it’s 18 degrees in my living room. Sometimes it’s 19 or 17 but so far hasn’t been lower than that. If I have the heating on for an hour or so to dry off some clothes it’ll go up to 20/21.

We wear layers in the house and I have lots of blankets too. I have no plans to put the heating on properly any time soon.

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 16/11/2022 21:04

According to the hive 18.3. I've had the heating on for 1.15 minutes today. I expect we will all go to bed with hot water bottles tonight

Notplayingball · 16/11/2022 21:04

Heating on. It's at 22C.

Readaboutyourself · 16/11/2022 21:05

We’ve just put it on and we’re now at 18. Bedroom was 14 this morning 😱

We’re getting Hive setup in 2 weeks as our current thermostat is geriatric & will probably have it on more regularly mostly to avoid damp. My knitwear is working overtime already!

ChunkyMonkeyIsBack · 16/11/2022 21:05

23.5, heating is not on but that’s because I’m in a flat which was built just a couple years ago. I only switch the heating on end of January.

saraclara · 16/11/2022 21:05
  1. I'm fortunate that my house is well insulated and that I can afford to be comfortable. I've refined my heating and water timings to ensure that they're only on when needed and I have Hive, which I'm going to use more religiously to remotely turn the heating off if I'm out for longer than planned, etc.

But on the whole, being a comfortable temperature in my own house is important to me, and I'll economise on other things before I turn my heating down. But yes, I do recognise my relative good fortune in being able to do that.

HappyHolidai · 16/11/2022 21:06

WaddleAway · 16/11/2022 20:47

People who can’t afford to put their heating on also value their health, I’m sure. They just can’t afford to put the heating on.
Anyway… it’s 17 degrees in my house. Had the heating on for an hour earlier when it dropped to 15. Warm enough now with a blanket on the sofa.

But the Mumsnet competitive cold brigade can almost all afford their heating, going on all the discussions about far fancier lifestyles than my own!

AuntieMarys · 16/11/2022 21:08

17.8 degrees here. I had the heating on for 2 hours 4 till 6pm.
The house was 14 degrees this afternoon.

mydogisthebest · 16/11/2022 21:11

It's 22 in our house and lovely and warm. Have the heating on for 3 hours in the morning then 4 hours in the evening. Never have it on overnight.
