£132 yesterday in garden centre, £6 on coffee and cake.

£8-ish today in supermarket. NSDs otherwise.

Lovemaltesers · 17/01/2022 18:05

Hire car had to go back, broken light, and was replaced. I had an absolute meltdown at work. Twice.

DD2 woke us last night, temperature and then sick. Negative lateral flows at that point. Took for PCR. Very faint positive lateral flow test this evening. About 6 children in her class have now tested positive.

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/01/2022 18:18

Yes it’s definitely the house that keeps on giving and I’m definitely feeling buyers remorse right now.
Rest up unescorted, back to bed with you.
Oh no em, nasty
Car meltdown or general meltdown love. Not that it matters have a ((((hug))). Is this car any better?

I spent money today. I will
Spend ££££ tomorrow on drains.

I hear you em but you have it saved. Worked out it will cost circa £20k for the maintenance jobs here before we get to the interior and electrics fml. Twats

Lovemaltesers · 17/01/2022 18:31

Car meltdown life. The new car hire had a button for a handbrake, that completely finished me off. Also, in the three tiny journeys I’d driven the old hire car, I’d apparently damaged two tyres. Luckily I took out the extra insurance 🤔

moimichme · 17/01/2022 18:35

OMG life you poor thing! That's shocking!! Flowers

Maybe we should thank our lucky stars we're still renting...with everything going on we haven't felt confident to move to Scotland (and ideally buy a place) yet.

NSD yesterday and today. Much needed. January is suuuuuch a long month!

Hope you feel better soon, those who are ill and family members too.

Happy New Year frugaleers. Hope 2022 is a better one for us all!

moimichme · 17/01/2022 18:36

Poor you too, love! Flowers

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/01/2022 18:39

Oh button handbrakes urgh if youve never had one before . Damaged two tyres, really!

We knew about some of it mio some was an unpleasant surprise and some needs doing sooner than anticipated. Bye bye savings

marthasmum · 17/01/2022 19:58

life I hear you with the button handbrake, I test drove one and it freaked me out! It just seemed wrong.
love that's a nightmare, was any of it anticipated?
unescorted I hope you had time off, you work very hard. My DPs are near chatsworth, I've never been in the house but had some lovely wild swimming in the river!
mrs you would like it I think. A beautiful place I've been to in wales is chirk castle - I force everyone to visit whenever we go on holiday to wales 😊. Am looking forward to pottering round more of these places when we retire.
Spends on two coffees today, for me and the midwife who came in to help me with my teaching today.
DP gets paid tomorrow, can't wait! Have to really stay out of our overdraft this month, should be able to do it

Mrsmadevans · 17/01/2022 20:15

Martha l had a look at Chirk Castle it looks beautiful Smile
Love you have enough on your plate without this blinking hire car firm playing you up lovely Flowers
Life it happens to the best of us , our first home, the drains were blocked , damp , infested with mice , gas boiler didn't work , roof leaked , we did what was necessary and sold it 3 years later . Next house had a huge crack down one wall underneath boarding, we had to get that done and then we sold it, bought this house touch wood, 27 years ago apart from new kitchen, bathroom & boiler, all necessary maintainance upgrades , we are ok but l get where you are coming from Flowers

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/01/2022 09:05

I’m sure it does happen and I was having one of those days . Once we work through the jobs list it will be fine and I will love the house even more knowing a quality job is done. It’s only money [crying]

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/01/2022 12:57

Lovemaltesers · 18/01/2022 19:33

Another £1700 life 😱

DD2s PCR came back positive as expected. She’s been a bit better today, thank goodness.
She’s been so poorly.

I had a day at working at home and tomorrow too. We have the excitement of morning LFTs now, which determines what each day will bring and who leaves the house ! 🤣

Mrsmadevans · 18/01/2022 20:33

Lovemaltesers · 18/01/2022 20:51

Evening all hope everyone who is unwell feels better soon
Nsd today
Scrapped dd car the other day got £260 will save £97 per month on insurance £20 on tax it’s needed fixing again the mot was due so we cut our loses as she doesn’t need a car at the moment.
I had to pay £335 for new tyres which are being fitted Thursday but will get £189 refund when they are fitted silly new work policy we have to pay full price then get refunded our staff discount.
Mot on my car due in 2 weeks so hopefully no problems as it’s barely moved all year due to working from home and I don’t go far

Startagaintoday · 19/01/2022 06:01

41 pet food yesterday. Hope all I'll people start to feel better

ememem84 · 19/01/2022 06:27

£1700 on drains?! Holy fuck.

Why is it that it’s always the really boring shit that’s the most expensive.

DH is ok. The antivirals have kicked in. He’s feeling very “floopy” with them and is struggling to concentrate. But he’s ok. He hasn’t been signed off work - which I think he should have pushed for if I’m honest. But his choice.

Spends yesterday £42 nails pink and shimmery this time. I switched to a new nail place as When I was getting nails done at my old place they weren’t lasting. After a week the gel would start lifting. I used to pay £39 for essentially a weeks worth of nice nails.

New place (where I’ve been going for 6 months now) is slightly more expensive. But they last 4 weeks.

Pilates tonight. Need a good stretch and a back crunch!

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/01/2022 06:33

Dd tested negative, she will be gutted but doesn’t explain what is wrong with her. May have to push for dr

PigeonPigPie · 19/01/2022 08:41

Hi all! I have been over on the No Spend and make £10 a day threads and wanted to join you here too. Having a full, frugal financial reset this year!

So far this month I've spent £17.89 on coffee/take out and £22.77 on some clothes on Vinted. I've sold some bits and made some money online so have made about £120 so far this month too!

Have also switched to driving to Aldi and doing a big two weeks shop and have managed to stick to the meal plan every day so far, only done top up shops for bread and milk.

Also if anyone is thinking of opening Monzo to use the 'pots' feature, I have a link where you can get £5 for opening the account and I will get £5 too xx

Unescorted · 19/01/2022 11:42

Alfie I am so pleased that she has not gone back to King Twat

Life There is a bug going around that is not COVID, but keeps lingering. The Human Petri dish had / still has it.

Pigeon welcome.

Em it is so tempting to think you can work through illness.... I tried logging on this morning. Mind willing, body not.

Anyone else crack their jaw when they say the inflation figures this morning ... and that is before the energy cap and NI changes in April. Just hope it comes own before they set the train price and Affordable Rent increases for next year.

Yikes at £1700 for drains.

NSD here. One of the dogs has been unwell, I won’t go into details but she’s obviously eaten something in she found in the garden. Currently on a restricted diet, plain rice and water. She’s now recovering after 3 days, wagged her tail 😊

unescorted I nearly tripped over my jaw, it’s bloody scary.
