I have just found a super use up the random contents of the fridge thing.... dried mushrooms. Simply slice and spread on a tray. Either air dry or when you are cooking something long & slow in the oven. Turn them over occasionally. How did I not know this?

I suspect as food costs go up I will be looking for more eat well for less hacks... not the TV version of swap these products all from the same supermarket and replace them with these from 12 different ones.

Mrs cars, houses & teenagers are money pits.

Great news alfie that she hasn't gone back to the boyfriend. I really hope it lasts. DP got paid today and I get paid on Friday, hurray! It's all going straight out again to pay off various debts/ top up various savings pots etc so I need to be really strict. Got £430 for 4 weeks' food in my new food only account and need to stick to it.
I get my house insurance through a local broker usually - we are in a flood area so it's always given me confidence to do it locally and usually very competitive. But this year it's nearly £700! About £300 more than comparison site. Trying to negotiate it down via excess etc but may just have to do with cheaper deal.
Hope all the poorly people are on the mend.

Alfiemoon1 · 19/01/2022 21:26

Iam not convinced she hasn’t got back with him as she has lied about it in the past

She blocked and deleted his number infront on my sister a few days after they broke up but I pay her mobile so can see who she texts and calls. I know this is invading her privacy but sometimes when she was ingnoring us it was the only way to see if she was dead or alive I never looked before she met him

Well a few days later she started texting him and calling him most days not loads but still in contact she was still at home at the time. We dropped her off at university last week for a few days to meet some new people and go out on the Tuesday for someone’s birthday she was texting him all night while she was out then nothing until the Friday when she arrived back at the station to come home do her washing and there’s a one way train ticket to his area tuesday night

She’s been home all week no contact with him until today and she’s planning on going back to university tomorrow ready for starting lectures

So I really don’t know what’s going on can’t really discuss it with her as I don’t want to lose her again or having her run back to him as what she was putting up with was awful

Spends today £350 rent for university house so she better bloody be going back there wasted enough money last year when she left the house and moved in with him

@ememem84. Nice nails. Wouldn't last 2 min on me as I do stables every day. Yesterday 71 Tesco but included 4 storage hard and a book.

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/01/2022 07:07

Hmm difficult Alfie. The only thing is she is still in contact with you and coming home.
Nice nails em
Hope doggo tummy is better
We are trying to get better at food use. Ds is cooking this week

Unescorted · 20/01/2022 10:23

Alfie that is difficult. As life says - it is an improvement that she is talking to you. Something I have learnt is that if you want some one to leave a person / situation don't criticise it. If you do it forces them into a position of supporting them. It is far more effective to hold counsel and as them how they feel about it. That way it gives them space to articulate the poor behaviours.

Em when I grow up I am going to have pretty nails....Wink

I am still off work with waves of tiredness. I want to taste again ARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH! Not even smoked bacon. It is made worse by noticing textures that I have never given a thought to. Bread is wrong; it is taking on the ills of trifle - moist against crumb. Am I ever going to enjoy the pleasure of a sandwich again?

OP posts:
Unescorted · 20/01/2022 10:25

Obviously I mean a homemade sandwich - not a supermarket meal deal one. In no circumstances are they anything other than necessary at best.

OP posts:
lifelongfrugaleer · 20/01/2022 11:29

You will unescorted. Taste will return. And rest!!

ememem84 · 20/01/2022 13:00

I’ve had a very frugal homemade Christmas dinner soup. Dm gave me a huge frozen vat of it.

Everything went in. Turkey stuffing potatoes. Veg. Yum.

£9 next soap dispenser. Outs broke (thanks kids).

AdoraBell · 20/01/2022 13:35

Love the nails em

Alfie as others have said it’s best not to criticise, just support her. I know that’s tough.

NSD today, stuck at home waiting on deliveries while DH is at his father’s house. He was going to a conference but it was postponed the night before.

unescorted yes, you will enjoy a sandwich, it just might take a few months. I think my sense of taste took about 8 months, ish, can’t really remember as this was late Feb ‘20 and that wasn’t listed as a symptom then.

Unescorted · 20/01/2022 15:23

8 months!!!! I don't think I am going to last 8 days

Third party has accepted liability for the car accident 👍

£11 taxi to work this morning.

Frida Kahlo is an amazing artist. She should be more widely recognised - up there with Picasso, Dali, Monet, Van Gogh. The Mexican folk art style she uses is so decorative and she also manages to marry it with really hard hitting messages about colonialism and feminism. Which in may ways are very similar..... I need to get back to work don't I? Mrs I love it.

Adora - good news about the doggo.
