It has been a spendy week this week. MOT and service due, new tyres, new wipers.

I find eBay stressful - both buying and selling.

moimichme · 14/09/2021 08:48

Well, much of my current wardrobe is second hand just now anyway, for environmental reasons, so I don't have much that is worth selling. And I won't have time to sell soon anyway due to my work getting very busy again. So it's fine, but I hope I remember this for next time, that the 'donate to charity shop' option is far less hassle!

£45 for Holland and Barrett advent calendar spent yesterday (gift for a lovely friend). Hoping for a NSD today.

ememem84 · 14/09/2021 11:28

I quite like buying from eBay. I recently bought a Barbour gilet £28 (rrp £120) so it’s new to me. But not brand new. I could have bought one from Nagaland for cheaper but I like the quality of Barbour. And my old one lasted ages like 14 years before I finally gave it up.

Nagaland? Ffs. Matalan

Nagaland sounds like some sort of chilli-themed theme park Grin

MeadowHay · 14/09/2021 18:49

Lovely date day with DH today. Our last chance to could spend some childfree time together until at least next August when this baby starts nursery! Spent £58 in TK Maxx mostly on gifts for other people. DH paid for everything else.

Nagaland Grin. One thing I've realised this pregnancy is that I have way too many clothes ordinarily, I've mostly managed ok with this much more limited maternity wardrobe so determined to be really harsh with any future clothes buying post-pregnancy. I will need to buy a waterproof coat though and a few pairs of PJs once I know what size I am after baby.

Mrsmadevans · 14/09/2021 19:06

I never buy from ebay either Hmm
Aldi 41 no probs with any shortages of anything, prices slightly higher but not as noticeable as in Tesco!

Bornlazy · 14/09/2021 19:51

£30.30 top up shop Aldi

I went to customer services in Morrisons the other day for a £1 overcharge. I try to always check my receipts.

Meadow when are you due?

Mrsmadevans · 14/09/2021 20:03

Been missing a lot, but just caught up. Lots of little convenience spends going on eg batteries from Amazon, as time poor this week.

Work a nightmare too and my boss has been in an awful mood with everyone, unusually had a dig at me too and it’s been very intense.

On the plus side, I have got an invite to interview next week Grin It’s a pay grade above my previous civil service job, so feeling rather pleased with myself for managing to complete the application to that standard!

And a colleague bought me a gift and wrote me a lovely card too for being so kind to her last week. I nearly cried! Blush It was nice to feel appreciated.

moimichme · 15/09/2021 07:30

Very good luck with the interview, love - rooting for you!

NSD yesterday and hoping for another today as I'm wfh. Let's see.

lifelongfrugaleer · 15/09/2021 09:38

Yes love, I’m doing tons of CS recruiting so happy to help

Gensola · 15/09/2021 10:10

Good luck love with the interview

Ive started an on the job extra teaching qualification which requires 7 study days in school hols, 4 assignments and a thesis. It’s going to be a lot of work but hopefully interesting and good for CV!

SingToTheSky · 15/09/2021 10:46

Good luck love!

I didn’t get an interview for for the job I applied for the other week sadly. Not sure what else I could’ve done really. But I’m feeling really positive about my tutoring - I’ve got even more work lined up so now I know I’m not starting a new job soon I can focus more on that. There’s another volunteer role I need to look at too which might add another string to my bow. Not starting OU till February now.

SingToTheSky · 15/09/2021 10:47

Course sounds great gen! 🤩

Loving the idea of Nagaland :o

MeadowHay · 15/09/2021 11:27

Born Any time now really, am about 37 weeks now! On mat leave now as of the end of last week woohoo. DD was born on her due date, am hoping this one will be around the same gestation.

I never check receipts but I really should!

Well done on the job interview Love and good luck!

I have an interview later, it's not a job per se, it's like a temporary patient participation voluntary role thing with an NHS body, but it is a paid role. Haven't done any prep at all yet and applied for it about two months ago so I need to have a look through my application and the applicant pack and stuff in a min so at least I have some faint idea of what the role is and relevant skills! I won't be bothered if I don't get it as it's not like I am not going to be kept pretty busy over mat leave as it is like!

Opticians £169 Shock. For two pairs of glasses and an eye test, and one of the pairs of glasses was free ffs in an offer. Soo expensive but my current frames have loads of scratches on them which is really irritating me so I figured makes sense to get two pairs this time so then I have a spare if I scratch them, and I was due the sight test too. I will be able to claim some of that back through my work cash plan but not sure how much optical entitlement I have left for this year, I doubt it will put much of a dent in that spend unfortunately as I spent some of it on contact lenses and my contact lens check earlier in the year grrr.

Oh also £13 in Asda, groceries and also a birthday present for my friends' DC. Was quite frugal tbf, I got a 2 pack of fancy doughnuts going off today for me and DH to have today for 54p, a bag of bagels for about the same and a pack of brioche burger buns for about the same too. Will bung these last two in the freezer, bagels will be breakfast on Saturday morning and the burger buns whatever day I decide we will have burgers for tea. Would have had them today but when I got home I found a ready made mac n cheese in the fridge that is going out of date today so we will have that tonight. It's a fancy M&S one and sooo nice, DM kindly bought it for us again with her Ocado shop.

Wolfcub · 15/09/2021 15:02

FYI because I know others switched to them people's energy has gone under. Martin Lewis says to do nothin Until ofgen switch you to a new supplier and then switch after that. Bloody annoying

HumbugWhale · 15/09/2021 19:30

Course sounds interesting Gen. Even more work though, how do you fit it in?!

Gensola · 15/09/2021 19:35

wolf oh no, are you with them?! What happened? Hope it is sorted for you soon.
We are with octopus but I’m thinking of switching to Sainsbury’s on a two year fixed deal to try to avoid price rises.
£13.99 on a massive amount of new pens etc for work and for my course - obviously I need all new pastel pens if I am going to excel at my course!! Grin
£5 on coffee and cake with a lovely and very hungover colleague - made me feel better about not being able to drink Grin

Gensola · 15/09/2021 19:36

humbug DH said pretty much the same Grin he has to teach Saturdays as his school has Saturday school so I might try to do my work for the course then. Though I do enjoy my Saturday potter without DH 😂

Lovemaltesers · 15/09/2021 21:07

Thanks guys

I’m having a bit of a wobble on the idea of actually getting this job. I’d be going back to commuting with the hope of some home working. I’m pretty sure none of you work for this department, as I worked there previously. Don’t suppose any of you would have some example interview questions if I told you the grade of role and the behaviours being tested?
