Going back in time....
Tonight is creamy broccoli and chilli with spaghetti - after pub student favourite that DS loves and the rest of the absent family hate.
Last night Chicken tortilla - recycled from tomatoey chicken pasta left overs from the night before (add fajita spices & fish out the olives.....)
Homemade falafels (surprisingly straightforward), kofta, cous cous and a lemon, onion & mint thing...
Pork chops with cider and cream - mash and puy lentils on the side
Burgers with blue cheese inside them ..... they are the best burgers

Tomorrow is going to be porchetta - I have the herbs in the garden and pork shoulder from the freezer
Day after that will be a tuna, olive, caper and lemon thing that tastes way better than it sounds.
Then it is pizza night - the weather is due to warm up & next door have gifted us some nice wood (he is a firewood merchant) and there is a boule of mozzarella in the freezer
Then I think it will be either a lentil kedgeree or some form of soup or baked gnocchi cheese n mac.

Happy anniversary mrs

Lovemaltesers · 05/09/2021 07:59

Ahhh lovely mrs and congratulations

Thanks for the new thread em

We took the DC to see a show yesterday and had burgers for lunch. Felt very ‘normal’.

I don’t think anyone wore a mask at work last week, will be interesting to see if this changes when the children return.

Today is cleaning/tidying/laundry/getting bags and uniforms ready for the DC. Gutted the summer holidays are now completely over!

Wolfcub · 05/09/2021 08:09

The broccoli and chilli spaghetti sounds good, love a falafel

Who ever posted the Hawaiian recipe please can you re post. I think it was wolf?

Wolfcub · 05/09/2021 17:41

Life do you want the easy version or the make from total scratch version?

Easy is - boneless skinless chicken thighs I'd say 8-12 of them. Bottle of good bbq sauce (cooking version not squeezy condiment) tin of pineapple chunks in juice or better half bag frozen pineapple chunks. Throw it in on low for 8 hours. Can add onion if you like. Pull chicken with forks at the end and whack on ciabatta buns with coleslaw. If you you want the from scratch version I'll dig you one out

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/09/2021 17:53

If
You have the from scratch version yes but other than that I will go easy

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/09/2021 17:53

Thanks

myheartskippedabeat · 05/09/2021 18:06

@ememem84

Hawaiian chicken is a winner. Served with rice, cucumber slices, grated carrot, fresh pineapple, wraps. Yum.

Kids ate so much.

That sounds great how do you do the chicken
Wolfcub · 05/09/2021 18:13

thestayathomechef.com/hawaiian-barbecue-chicken/

Longer version. Any homemade bbq style marinade would work.

Will let you know how the paprika chicken turned out shortly

CamdenLurker · 05/09/2021 19:14

Hey guys!

Just found the new thread, hope everyone's had a good weekend.

NSD today - yay! To be honest they don't happen often enough, I'm still checking the Christmas Bargains thread loads, I don't really want to be buying Christmas gifts in September, but then I get the fear of another lockdown during Nov/Dec.

Kids are back to school tomorrow so I've spent hours ironing school uniform today, dd1 is 16 and going into year 11, just tried on her blazer and it looks as if it belongs to someone else, checked the label - age 13 Hmm, don't really want to buy a new one (£94) for 9 months she's got left at school, she's going to wear dd2 old blazer tomorrow and I'll see what I can come up with.

Gensola · 05/09/2021 19:18

Lidl shop way more expensive than usual. Are prices going up?! There weren’t any gaps on the shelves though.
Had such a lazy day as I haven’t been too well.

Wolfcub · 05/09/2021 19:37

Paprika chicken worked really well. Same recipe as I posted for Tayto yesterday but with the following amends - 2Tbsp smoked paprika (sweet) instead of one, no water added to the stock cube/jelly just a small amount of water to swill out the tomato tin. 1/2Tbsp mixed herbs instead of a teaspoon.

ememem84 · 05/09/2021 19:53

Nsd. Yippeeee!

Felt really weird this afternoon. Like a hot flush. Although I’m too you g for a menopausal one. It was warm here. But still. Oooof.

OP posts:
HumbugWhale · 05/09/2021 20:12

Nsd here too! Hasn't it been a lovely sunny day? Don't know why it waited until the school hols end!

Unescorted · 06/09/2021 06:51

Can I recommend shopping by bike if you are popping out for a small top up shop. Nothing like having to carry it back to limit the amount you buy. Yesterday was £1.22 on a loaf of bread and 3 carrots.

wolf the paprika chook sounds lovely.

em I started getting the odd hot moment many moons before peri menopause kicked in. Hope you merely have a bit of a cold going on.

DS starts his A levels today. Where did that time go? It has just been me and him all weekend so we have had a good natter about life and things. He is a sound one.

HumbugWhale · 06/09/2021 08:12

That's a good idea Unescorted. I often just pick up a basket for the same reason. Once it's got a big bottle of milk and some apples or bananas in it is already heavy so I'm not tempted by other things!

First day of school here too. Dcs all seem quite excited!

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/09/2021 13:06

Having a job day today

ememem84 · 06/09/2021 16:21

I’m sure no one would have minded em. £160 skatepark £100 summer fees and £60 September pass. Unlimited scoot which usually costs me £35 a week for individual sessions. Nearly snapped their hand off
Party next month will be £140 hire+ &20’sweet cones and £££pizza and bake
