Unfortunately we don’t seem to have a community shop or pantry near us which is a shame as I think it would be really helpful for people.

ememem84 · 12/09/2021 12:56

@TheHound86

I need to join this thread. I have stupidly overspent and I have NO money for the next two weeks. Not sure how I managed it or what I will do about food shopping right now but I really need to sort out my spending.
Welcome hound

I’ve seen the others have made a ton of suggestions but have you got Olio? It’s a food sharing app and has worked out for me in the past.

Check it out abs see what they have. Last time I used it I managed to get 5 loaves of bread which kept us going for a while (we keep our bread in the freezer so it lasts ages!)

I’m thinking about ds’ party now. So would it be ok to make a fruit pot up for the kids (grapes and apple)? Or jelly! (I’ve just bought some smoothie cups with lids for the drinks and am going to put stickers on them to make them
More exciting - had thought about getting the proper hard acrylic tumblers with straws for each kid and then letting them take them home but I could only find them for about £5 each. Bulk bought 100 smoothie cups for £12 on Amazon. And also smaller dessert pots £9.50. Will use them for parties/picnics etc.

Em I think fruit pots would be great but would apple go brown by the time they come to eat it? Strawberries cut in half and/or satsuma segments??

ememem84 · 12/09/2021 13:25

Good point humbug

Right bakers I need your never fail great for a buffet/special party key lime pie recipes

MeadowHay · 12/09/2021 19:49

Spends: £91 supermarket, mostly clothes for DD Shock. Also need to spend a fiver now to book stay and play for tomorrow. Most of the free and very low cost toddler activities locally disappeared with covid and have been replaced by private providers charging £5+ for less good alternatives Sad however DD is very much a child who needs to be out and occupied as much as poss and hates being at home so I just have to suck it up for our sanity ugh.

Ooh I love key lime pie. Have never made it though, sorry. Nsd. Been busy doing lots of jobs at home.
Unescorted · 12/09/2021 19:55

Key Lime Pie is just wrong - sorry wolf. I have a really good treacle tart, tarte aux citron, tarte aux abricot, Bakewell tart, Riis Taarte, Pie Town Apple pie. However if you insist on KLP - King Arthur Flour is spot on for all American baking recipes - therefore grudgingly I give you this For Graham's cracker crumb substitute digestives.

Unescorted · 12/09/2021 20:00

Em if you set the fruit in jelly it shouldn't go brown. Alternatively toss them in lemon juice. Both will prevent oxidisation.

Oooh jelly fruity pots!!! Good shout!

Went bowling. Surprisingly dd was good at it. She loved rolling the ball down the “slide” and got 4 strikes. Ds and his friend loved it!

Then we went for burgers down at the beach bar £39.50. Burgers and cokes. Sat out and watched the sunset.

Kids now in bed. Yay.

If anyone is looking for a food challenge follow Jordan page on Instagram. She does shelftember. Essentially wipes her food budget to $25 a week and only shops for absolute essentials for the whole month and shops her shelves in the pantry/fridge etc. Interesting concept.

Salad boxes all done for tomorrow. Korean chicken with lettuce cucumber tomatoes corn sugar snaps grated carrot and orzo. Yum. Sliced chillies to go on top tomorrow morning.

Also trying overnight oats for the first time. So that’ll be exciting.

And have made a fruity pot for tomorrow.

Em tinned mandarin oranges work really well in orange jelly and save the bother of having to chop up loads of fruit.

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/09/2021 07:06

Sorry wolf I’ve never made keylime pie and unescorted did make me laugh

Listed a tonne of stuff on Ebay, mostly outgrown kids things. Hopefully will make a few quid!

Mrsmadevans · 13/09/2021 17:11

Afternoon everyone Smile
Have been to Morrisons and bought their 2 mains and 2 sides Indian takeaway for a bargainous £6. They charged me 11.50 , they hadn't taken the offer price . I got the 5.50 back on my card. So l thought l would come here straight away and tell you about the bargain and tell you about the overcharging! 12.50 in Morrisons in all Smile
Makes sense to check our receipts , l don't always but l did today because l didn't buy much else Grin

moimichme · 13/09/2021 17:33

I sold a jacket & trousers suit on Vinted but will not be doing that again anytime soon. In £18 But it has cost me 3 hours of walking and faffing about! Not worth it.

Gensola · 13/09/2021 17:36

moi I also got cheesed off with Vinted - not worth it for all the traipsing about I had to do. I’m too busy!
£3.30 bus fare
£2.40 coffee Blush
Staying home tomorrow to WFH so no coffees out or buses!

HumbugWhale · 13/09/2021 18:31

I was interested in trying Vinted. Why does it involve traipsing about?

Gensola · 13/09/2021 18:43

humbug the buyer chooses the postage method and sends you a label, so my buyer chose Hermes And sent a PDF but I don’t have a printer so had to go to the office to print and then I don’t live near a Hermes place so had to go out of my way to one. I’d have just taken to post office and didn’t realise that wasn’t up to me.

I was going to try Vinted, fed up with eBay after selling a dress belonging to dd for £60 - stated no returns as I'm not a business seller and can't be bothered with it and so the buyer declared it not as described because it didn't fit her! I clearly stated the size in the listing and the title, but eBay just aren't interested and said that not only do I have to refund the outbound postage cost of £6 special delivery but also have to pay for the buyer to send it back. I'm still furious about it all Confused
crystalspiders · 13/09/2021 20:52

life yes a picnic will be our way to go for the foreseeable!. Soups a great idea for the winter.
gen I’m glad you’ve recovered quickly from the bad meal.
moi I’ve noticed lots of schools by me don’t do any vegan options only vegetarian. It is bad considering the amount of accessible vegan foods there are these days.
hound don’t feel guilty!💐
meadow there weren’t very many toddler groups near me pre covid but there are basically none now.
em we do overnight oats and they’re delicious.
mrs I never check my receipts I will do after that. Glad you managed to get the money back!.

It’s been a couple of spendy days. Yesterday DH took the boys to soft play so I could get some rest after the long walk on Saturday. That was £9.45. Weekly shop cost £82.82. Our forest school sessions started again today the DC loved it. All baby clothes are now washed and hung up ready now.

That sounds likes a palava!

Agree Ebay can be a pain too Camden. I rarely buy clothes for myself on there in case they don't fit. I get lots for the dcs though and sell a fair bit.

Just did a giant click and collect Tesco order for later in the week. £112 but we needed loads and it should last a couple of weeks with probably a fruit and milk top up at some point. Been living out of the cupboards/freezer for ages so looking forward to it!

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/09/2021 06:51

That is a palaver. Especially if the seller cant oblige.
I hate eBay for exactly that Camden. However marketplace can be just as bad

Toothache today. Hope I don’t need a dentist trip
I need to go to the bank and repay dc cash i borrowed too for the cleaner

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/09/2021 06:52

£60 Mataram yesterday as dh has a business trip and stuff has been put off being bought

ememem84 · 14/09/2021 07:15

I hate eBay for this too. It’s a nightmare. They rarely side with the buyer. I had someone telling me they wanted me to deliver the item. Someone else sending me messages once they’d received the item (and having left feedback and a message saying they’d received it) saying it hadn’t been received.
