Yes windy here too, haven't slept well. Got up to snow! It has snowed heavily for about 2 hours but has now stopped and seems to be melting already.

northender · 27/11/2021 14:22

Snow on the hills a few miles away from her, but nothing on the low ground. Wind has died down too.
Had a productive morning sorting advent calendar fillers to send down for our nephew. Was panicking a bit but have found a little stash of things left over from previous years so we just now need some choccy bits.

Supermarket shop £100 and £33 at butchers. We've got friends coming over tomorrow so I bought a massive pork shoulder (bone in) to slow roast a la Jamie Oliver. There should be enough for tomorrow, another roast dinner and for fajitas.

Properly back into frugal mindset now and having the cleaner is making me want to sort out the 2 rooms in the house which are cluttered, our "hobby" room/dh's office and our bedroom. We've decided that after 15 years it really needs an overhaul so new window, carpet, decor and fitted furniture, very exciting. We have got money saved for it so will work to a budget.

Got tickets for a musical for dd and I to take mil to in January (as her xmas present), sil wanted to come too so we've agreed to do it in lieu of presents for each other and are going to go halves on mil's ticket, food, drink etc as a joint present. Really trying to simplify things this year. We all have what we need so experiences are better imo.

Hope Mrs is okay, haven't seen her for a while and she wasn't feeling well.

ememem84 · 27/11/2021 15:13

Got to the stables. Windy as hell. We walked ponies round for a bit then abandoned the ride when I tried to get on and got thrown off. Pony too freaked by the wind.

Zero spends at stables.

£120 shop. Stocked up on baking things. Prosecco. Christmas chocolates.

Fingers crossed for your brother unescorted

Bloody freezing 🥶 here but no real problems although the wind kept me awake, NSD.

marthasmum · 27/11/2021 18:47

Oh gen I’m so sorry to hear that. You’re right, there is nothing fair about it at all.
unescorted sounds like tough times too, sending thoughts your way.

Unescorted · 28/11/2021 06:45

My parents still have no electricity... So no heating, hot food or water (their print water runs on a pump). The electricity company told us he was a priority case so we didn't think we would need to buy a generator. If they aren't out soon we will have to get 999 to take him to the hospital. Realistically he won't return & he wants to die at home.

Lovemaltesers · 28/11/2021 07:56

Flowers unescorted, I hope the power is back on now xx

Unescorted · 28/11/2021 08:00

Not yet - and radio silence from the electric company.

On a brighter note my Bro should still be able to get home.

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/11/2021 08:09

Thats appalling post edited by MNHQ to removed potentially identifying information

Happierwithouthim · 28/11/2021 08:10

Unescorted that's awful, I hope they get sorted out soon, what a difficult decision to have to make.

Friday
€9.50 lunch
€52 kennels & grooming
€15 handmade sweets toy show treats box
€74 diesel, it's gotten more expensive and I'm not getting the mileage either so I think the quality must be poorer too
Sat
€6 horrible breakfast roll yesterday
€9.50 on Chinese, divided it into two portions

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/11/2021 08:13

Oops pressed send too soon

That’s appalling and bang out of order of the company

Bornlazy · 28/11/2021 09:40

Gen I'm so sorry and you are right it's very unfair Flowers

Unescorted I hope the power is on soon 🤞 You'd think the power company would be more forthcoming with information given your circumstances. Hope your ds dodges covid too.

North great idea re the tickets as presents. I seem to buy the same stuff every year.

I'm not feeling the Christmas shopping this year at all, although my bank balance would beg to differ. I've spent a lot but used discount codes as much as possible and used cashback sites. It makes it very time consuming but I hate losing out on a bargain.

Unescorted · 28/11/2021 12:50

Still no response from the electricity company.

HumbugWhale · 28/11/2021 14:53

That's awful Unescorted, hopenyou get some power on soon.

Lovemaltesers · 28/11/2021 15:35

That’s awful unescorted

Went to visit Ddad. He talked non stop about the war for the whole time.

Got some candles that I got given for Christmas last year out of the loft. They’ve melted. DH reckons we might be able to melt them back? They were laid on their side in the box.

Gensola · 28/11/2021 15:39

unescorted I am so sorry Flowers

marthasmum · 28/11/2021 15:40

How awful unescorted if he wanted to be at hone. I’m really sorry to hear that. People round us are still without power.

Unescorted · 28/11/2021 16:42

Born I am finding that I am doing a lot of smile & wave when DDad goes off on one.

Electricity update - they are going to be off for another night. We may have to have him moved to a hospice, but it has snowed so it will be mountain rescue / ambulance/ hospice overnight / ambulance to get him moved and back home. We are not sure if the upheaval will do more harm than good.

marthasmum · 28/11/2021 17:23

Gosh what a decision unescorted. If it really is going to be only one more night I’d be tempted to keep him where he is.
I hope mrs is ok, not like her to be away this long?

Unescorted · 28/11/2021 17:50

The district nurse has had words with the electricity people.... and they are going to send someone out tonight. It is so beyond her remit and I am so grateful.

Unescorted · 28/11/2021 17:51

Martha I hope so too. Mrs if you are lurking hope you are alright.

HumbugWhale · 28/11/2021 18:06

That's better news, that was good of her to do that . I hope the electricity is back on asap.
