Massive congratulations Meadow! So pleased he is here at last. Hope you are recovering well and enjoying lots of lovely newborn snuggles.

Hi Girlie good to see you!

Lovemaltesers · 17/10/2021 07:34

Lovely news meadow and congratulations! I hope you manage a bit of recovery time amongst all the newborn baby snuggles 🥰

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/10/2021 08:12

Ah congratulations meadow
Sorry to hear you had a tough time but rest up now
Hey girlie pleased to hear things are going good with dd. Nice to see you,

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/10/2021 08:14

Damm it I will have to find time to drive to my local booths 40 minutes away

Unescorted · 17/10/2021 08:31

I am glad it went well (ish) for both of you. Hello to MiniMeadow

girlie that is good news that your DD is improving & has an eating plan. I have noticed that food is shooting up in price too. Boo to the speeding ticket.

Love I hope you feel better soon - there are some really filthy colds going around at the moment. DD took the Northern one to Oxford and caught the London one in return.

Things are less fraught with my Dmum - I have accepted (in her universe) that I was totally unreasonable and I was wrong to be in anyway annoyed by her (and my Bro) assumptions that I am 100% available for her needs. Work have been accommodating thankfully. DDad is not getting better (to be expected). DH has developed a pleural embolism - cause unknown. I never thought I would wish someone had pneumonia or TB - Dr Googles other suggestions are more worrying. Crosses fingers the antibiotics work.

In frugal news - DD is taking after her mother. She sweet talked the bike shop into fixing her bike for £0 (usual minimum charge £20) because of her cycling connections. She may have offered the MTB guiding services of her little bro in return. It is saving a bus fare and a gym subscription.

Other frugal news - I have knocked the habitual glass of wine while cooking dinner and popping to the pub after a day out on the head. Mainly because my partner in crime is still holding strong on his not drinking at all. It is quite frightening how much it costs. I had to check the outgoings to see if I had forgotten to pay half the bills.

ScreamToTheSky · 17/10/2021 08:35

Congratulations meadow! 💐❤️

Unescorted · 17/10/2021 08:38

Life if you are driving - go to the Penrith one and drop into Cranstons - it is on the way to the Station / Booths on the way from the motorway. Although I have just noticed they do online orders, although it is a bit pricy.

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/10/2021 12:09

Ooo I just might
Penrith is just over An hour for me

marthasmum · 17/10/2021 17:48

Oh meadow many congratulations and welcome to the world baby boy meadow! I hope you are getting looked after yourself and have someone to pamper you as much as possible in between being mummy to teo.
love sounds like you are taking things on the chin, good for you and good that you have a job you're very motivated to apply for
unescorted scary news about your DH, I hope he is on the mend soon
girlie I am glad things are better for your DD though I imagine it is a long haul.
Dramatic happenings here, took DS2 to watch his team play football while I was at Aldi (he's still out with his injury). It all kicked off at the end of the match and turned into a full on fight Sad
Have overspent this month, waiting for DH to be paid tomorrow. Anticipating a few spends coming up for half term, my DSis and DNephew are coming to visit us next weekend which will be great.

Lovemaltesers · 17/10/2021 18:19

I have a very faint line on a lft, DH can see it too 😬 I only had covid 3.5 months ago 😩. Fortunately sent PCRs off earlier today, maybe Zoe app was right even though I have no classic symptoms!

Meadow huge congratulations!
Girlie lovely to "see" you and glad dd has made some progress.
The Booths book has landed in the North household. Dh has suggested we should get some things from it this year.....

ememem84 · 17/10/2021 20:57

Girlie it's really lovely to see you. I've been wondering how you and dd were doing. I agree food bills, and heating bills are going through the roof

Lovemaltesers · 18/10/2021 09:58

PCRs all came back negative. But I’ve been advised to PCR again as I got the lateral flow positive after the PCR and been unwell. No more positive lateral flows since though 🤷‍♀️

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/10/2021 07:09

Urgh I’ve got dd germs. Day in bed for me today. Aches all over

Taytocrisps · 19/10/2021 23:50

Evening all,

We put up our Hallowe'en decorations this evening. It looks really well. I got a new scarecrow man and scarecrow lady for my porch and we put the little pumpkin lights from last year out there also. And our annual 'graveyard' in the garden - a skull, bones and gravestones. The postman is in for a shock in the morning. Although he should be used to us by now because we have this display every year.

I ordered a microwave about a month ago but I hadn't heard anything form the company since, so I rang up today. The staff member told me that they're waiting on a delivery but the delivery has been delayed because of Brexit. She couldn't give me any delivery date so she recommended two other microwaves. The one I picked is slightly cheaper than the original one and she also told me I'd been overcharged for the delivery, so I've a little lump sum coming back to me. I also spent a bit of time looking for a refund for a bus ticket - I phoned the company first and they advised me to send in an e-mail which I did. I must ring the optician and arrange for her to fill out a form for work - this form will entitle me to a small refund on my spectacles. Time consuming but worth the time and effort.

DD is going to a pre-debs (do you have debs in the UK? It's a graduation ball during the final year of secondary school). I'm not sure exactly what a pre-debs is (or why they even have one) but I think it's basically the debs but on a smaller scale. Anyway, her friends (all female) are going together as a group. They went shopping together at the weekend to buy their dresses. I was a little apprehensive at the potential cost of two dresses as well as the cost of the tickets etc. But DD got a dress for €8! She chose a dress which was reduced from €22 to €20 but when she got to the till, it scanned as €8. Only thing is, the sales assistant never removed the security tag and DD (being oblivious to the importance of these things despite all my efforts) had mislaid the receipt. She paid for it by card so I wasn't sure if they'd accept a card statement showing that she made a purchase in the shop. As it happens, Ex managed to remove the tag.
DD has invited all the girls here to get ready on the night. They'll be sooo excited.

Love get back on that interview horse! Must be disheartening to get knocked back but it will be so worth it when (not if!) you're successful. Really kind of Wolf to offer to give you a mock interview. Hope you all feel better soon.

Girlie lovely to have you stop by. I was thinking of you recently. Glad to hear DD is a little better. It's a pity you can't get any help towards the cost of the food plan for her. Sorry to hear about the speeding ticket.

north well done for organising the clean up for your DPs. Don't take your DMs reaction personally. My Dad is a bit funny about money too. For example, he would never (and I mean ever) pay for a taxi. But he's talking about a trip to see Andre Rieu in concert somewhere in Europe.

Meadow congrats. on the birth of your baby boy. What lovely news! Hope your DH and family can help out as much as possible to allow you to recover from the delivery. Are you still in hospital or are you home now?

Unescorted your poor DH! Really hope the antibiotics are effective.
Well done to your DD on her frugaleering.Sounds like she could teach us a thing or two.

martha hope the PCR test is negative.

life get well soon.

Lovemaltesers · 20/10/2021 06:39

PCRs came back negative again, so it must have been a dodgy lateral flow. Am quite excited to go back to work! DD2 was so good yesterday, but even she admitted she was bored of playing on the computer as I worked.

I still feel not 100% though.

I am sorry to admit that I did withdraw again from the job interview. But yes, wolfs offer was very kind and I will definitely take it up if I get another interview, and wolf is still willing.

HumbugWhale · 20/10/2021 06:42

That's good news Love, enjoy work!

Tayto your decorations sound amazing! I haven't got organised for Halloween, think that's a job for this weekend.
