Looking at getting an oil radiator, have been looking at the cost of a gas boiler , if it is a 24 kw boiler like ours it uses 24 KW of gas an hour , now l just have to work out how much an hour of gas is and compare it with the cost of the heating going on. Dd1 has a cold room she needs the heating on before the rest of us need it on . l hope l got this right now Grin

MeadowHay · 05/10/2021 17:16

Mmm I love Tapas Em, can't remember the last time I had it though, must have been a few years ago. Then again I pretty much love all types of food Grin.

Spends: £13.50ish lunch (incl tip) out with friends. Enjoying the last of my relative freedom before this baby arrives! £6ish in Tesco on fly killer (we have been battling an infestation for a few weeks now and not much further ahead than we were when we started grrr) and kitchen roll. £23ish in WHSmiths on Xmas gifts, some of it was sale items so that was quite frugal.

Gensola · 05/10/2021 17:51

Dropped off thread as work has been mad!

Spends:
£11 on toothpaste, tooth floss, vanish spray.
About to go to a fair with a friend so probably £10ish there on chips and a ride or two.
We are booking our wedding reception (had a lockdown wedding with no guests) and trying to decide between Dec this year or August next - any thoughts? Christmas wedding party is appealing but perhaps still restrictions or family worried about virus? We plan to have a little humanist exchange of vows as well as drinks and a meal and photos.
£150 on 500kg of logs to beat the rising gas prices Grin
I think I might look in to getting our heating changed to heat pump, does anyone know anything about it?
Off to catch up on everyone’s news!

Mrsmadevans · 05/10/2021 17:56

Waves at Gen [mile]
I have no idea re heat pumps Gen but the logs sound like a great idea!
I am trying my best to find out the costs of running things but it is so complicated. I think the little heater l have just bought costs about 11p an hour to run but l really don't know if that is right or not HmmGrin

Mrsmadevans · 05/10/2021 17:57

NOT MILE it's smile! Grin

Gensola · 05/10/2021 17:59

mrs DH wants a blow heater that plugs in and blows hot air but I am worried it will cost loads, how are we supposed to know these things?!?! 😂

Mrsmadevans · 05/10/2021 17:59

Wedding sounds lovely Gen Star Flowers
Have you been watching MAFSUK? l know the show is ridiculous but the dresses OMG gorgeous ! I am a sucker for weddings Grin
We are watching the AU one now Grin

Mrsmadevans · 05/10/2021 18:03

@Gensola

mrs DH wants a blow heater that plugs in and blows hot air but I am worried it will cost loads, how are we supposed to know these things?!?! 😂
Apparently they are more expensive to run bt the heat is immediate , l couldn't stand the noise either l must be honest! Grin I have worked out our boiler costs 1.40 an hour to run on our tariff , so on average we have the boiler on about 5/6 hours a day. So it costs us 7 to 8 pounds a day Shock. That is a hellova lot ! 50 quid a week for just the gas! I know it's gone up a lot but blinking hell!
Lovemaltesers · 05/10/2021 18:17

Slightly better day here, no teeth drama today Grin

But asked my brother if he’s still with his partner, answer no and now I’m in on keeping this a secret from Dmum. I do understand, she will send constant tormented emails about it to him (and me). He can’t deal with her too. But urgggh. Slightly less fed up with him now though, as it explains his lack of helping with Dparents. But it does mean he won’t be visiting with his kids for the foreseeable future.

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/10/2021 19:48

No idea about running things but I always thought fan heater’s were ££££ oil rads less so. Heat pumps no idea

Tapas sounds lovely
Boo to secret keeper
December or summer hmm depends what season you like. Both can be nice weather and awful in equal measure

£190 ds skatepark party, kids and adults all had great fun

Taytocrisps · 05/10/2021 19:51

Got home heating oil delivered today - it was €602.65. I also have to pay for a plumbing job this week for which I've been quoted €630 inclusive of VAT. And I have to pay for my spectacles which will probably be ready in the next week or two. I've paid a hefty deposit already but I still need to pay the balance. Checked my spreadsheet today and I think I'll limp along until the end of the month. I could transfer money in from my savings but I'd rather not touch them unless I really have to.

The dishwasher picked this week to play up but I told DD we're washing the dishes by hand. I'm not forking out for any more appliances or repairs this month. I'll ask my BIL to have a look at it over the next week or two and see if it's something relatively straightforward.

I took the day off today. I went for a long walk at lunchtime. It was unseasonably warm and sunny and I was roasting in my big jacket (the weather forecast was for rain). Most of my walk was along main roads with a small bit of country lane at the end of it. Two big dogs came out of a yard and followed me to the end of the lane and back, barking all the time. The owner was standing there and called them but made no effort to put them on a lead Angry. I won't be walking that particular lane again.

DD is moving into a different bedroom. She originally had a small bedroom and we kept the larger one for guests. But she's decided to move into the bigger bedroom. I suggested she leave it until the weekend when she'll have more time but she's like a woman possessed - she did some clearing out last night and hoovered tonight. I can hear her moving stuff around. She's very determined when she puts her mind to it.

HumbugWhale · 05/10/2021 21:59

When you break down the cost like that Mrs that's horrendous! Expect ours is similar. I am very tight about putting the heating on. Good news is that the weather is getting warmer again from tomorrow!
We have those blow heaters at work to compensate for all the doors and windows being open. They are brilliant only if you sit directly in front of it! Otherwise not that good, noisy and I constantly panic I've left it switched on overnight!

Alfiemoon1 · 05/10/2021 23:39

Evening all £10 spends on teabags milk etc as the bathroom fitter drinks numerous cups of tea we don’t drink tea only coffee
Expensive day tomorrow as have to pay him £700 to pay the plasterer and the electrician but it’s looking lovely so far toilet and sink going in tomorrow and then it’s finished we just need to get a blind and toilet roll holder

Monthstogo21 · 06/10/2021 06:10

Can I join? My name is how long until I hope to leave work. Fingers crossed

Happierwithouthim · 06/10/2021 06:30

Welcome monthstogo great to have a plan like that in place it'll motivate you

Life thanks for the clap on the back re grocery budget.

Savings yesterday €3, ds wouldn't partake in his soccer activity so they refunded me. I just want him to have some activity, we both left crying. He then hugged me as he was sorry for upsetting me.
We walked dog afterwards out our laneway in the dark

€20 play therapy for dd
€8.26 lunch for me

Tayto I bought 652 litres last week for €500, tank is only just over half full, first year with oil so trying to gauge how much I'll burn. I'm guessing there's now about 800 litres in the tank. It's going on for an hour from 7-8pm not on yet in the mornings.

Thermal vest from M&S on today, winter is setting in Hmm

northender · 06/10/2021 07:24

Welcome coteeee and months lots of support and encouragement to be had here.
humbug I'm the same re heating, was horrified that it came on for a while yesterday, it must've been really cold as the thermostat is set v low! Usually manage without until around the end of Oct.
No additional spends yet this week. Haven't managed to retrieve anything from the ext hard drive yet. Finding it really frustrating not knowing the detail of our spending. Have made a very basic spreadsheet but it's not the same as what I had spent so long creating. That'll teach me to save things in more than one place!

MeadowHay · 06/10/2021 14:25

Spends: £12ish VIP platform for a disability welfare rights charity thing to do help me with my PIP forms - it's a subscription so need to remember to cancel it before the month is over!, £5.30 Card Factory on cards, £15ish Boots on OTC meds, £11 Xmas grotto booking for DD.

Have made a slow, cautious start on my PIP forms. I need to get DH to call actually and extend my deadline as apparently forms are due the 11th which obviously won't be possible.

Going to get waxed later too which will be another £20 out.

Wolfcub · 06/10/2021 15:44

Just on cost of running heating things there's a new article on moneysavingexpert with the energy saving trust about heating myths, energy saving etc which had some things in I didn't know

I'm afraid I'm not at all caught up with the thread for the last couple of weeks

Mrsmadevans · 06/10/2021 20:23

Thanks Wolf will have a look now , l do know that the myth on leaving the heating on low means it costs less, is wrong.
Spends aldi 23 Smile

Mrsmadevans · 06/10/2021 20:24
