Unescorted the curry guys base sauce looks similar to Ashley Singh-Thomas's onion masala which I use in instant pot curries

Did you add the cabbage to yours? That seemed a weird ingredient

Washing out drying on the line. Filled skirting board tops with caulk ready for next layer of paint. Cleaned out fridge. Stewed a mass of apples that aren't getting eaten and are going soft. I have a massive vat of curry base on the go (thanks Unescorted). I have curry burns up my arms as the bugger is volcanic.

Hello I've been reading but not posting. Thanks for new thread Wolf

Welcome back Adora

My house is less cluttered than it used to be but I do think I have hoarding tendencies and I am a master in procrastination which is an unfortunate combination. I love my house looking tidy it really lifts my spirits but there's usually some crap lying around that I don't "see" until I think this place is a riot and properly look at it. Then I get a bit depressed at how far my standards have slipped. I think if you like your house it's much easier to keep it tidy. I know since I decorated my bedroom last year it's mostly always hidden in cupboards or in storage bed clutter free.

Spends today £6.50 in B&M. I don't think I've ever spent so little in there - the trick is not to take a trolley that you then fill with rubbish.

Wolfcub · 06/08/2020 17:33

Lawn mowed, plants watered, washing in, game played with ds. I've booked ocado reserved slots now I can and have been tinkering with frequencies if things I buy recently.

Yarn/craft bag ordered so I can tackle the other box of doom which contains wool, wool, unfinished crochet projects and more wool

I've been contemplating Unescorted's meal review idea and I'm now on the lookout for any good Chinese sauces that I could bulk make and freeze. Unfortunately my favourite Chinese is sauce free totally dry, ubfreezable and would likely be a pig to make. But I'm going to learn how to make bao buns

Wolf - yes I did put the cabbage in. It works.... gives it the takeaway flavour.

For the Chinese I use Fuchsia Dunlop, World of Wok and Lee Kum Kee (their sauces are really good) - I do most things just as they go into the wok. What speeds it up is having grated garlic and ginger and finely chopped / minced spring onion all in ice cube trays. Having said that the Sweet and Sour sauce that I got off here is also really good (and simple). 6 tbl sp to sauce, 6 tbls sp rice wine vinegar, 6 tbl sp sugar - dash of rice wine and dark soy pinch of five spice powder and white pepper. If you want crispy style meat - marinade in, a splash of sesame oil, Soy (L - 1 tbl sp &D - 1 teaspoon), 1 tbls sp rice wine, 1 teasp cornflour and pinch each of 5 spice and pepper for a hour or so. the aim is to coat the meat not flood it. Add 200g of corn flour and an egg …. this is messy . Knead it until it is dry. Fry the meat in plenty of oil (deep fryer) and set aside. Fry onion, garlic, ginger and minced spring onion in the wok add a green pepper cut into chunks. Add the sauce bring to the boil and then add meat to heat through. It is soooooooooo good.

North there is so much uncertainty re the results. This next week is going to be difficult (I suspect you me and Adora will be on this thread early on Thursday). On one hand 25% of the Scottish ones were down graded, but at the same time many of the universities are saying that they will consider giving places to people who just miss out on the offer grades - especially where they have interviewed. Many of the international students they rely on are not going to be able to come over (China still has a ban on nationals leaving). Even if he doesn't make it there will be plenty of clearing places.

AdoraBell · 06/08/2020 23:13

£18 top up 🤦‍♀️ Pizzas, ham, salad and chicken breasts. All but the chicken were on yellow stickers, and that’s enough for tonight and tomorrow’s lunch. DD1 has her boyfriend staying. They are cooking their own food and he cleans up 👍

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/08/2020 07:04

££ on a joiner for a new cupboard. £90 for said cupboard and handle. Another job off the house list.
£9 coop on bits instead of shopping

LonelyOversharer · 07/08/2020 08:14

I spent far too much yesterday - I went to asda hungry and that was a mistake. I did get 3 lots of meat, but spent £55 on munchy things, mostly. £7 on a Costa (I'm having way too many of these), £8 in make up shop (mica powders for crafting) and £28 in Claires on more and some bits for dd1. We popped over the border to Gretna, the queue for the Nike shop was out into the car park?? Why?

Work this morning and then a staff meeting, so I guess this will be the final decision on hours. Have been nervous.

northender · 07/08/2020 08:26

Travelling home today. Said goodbye to family last night, slight detour to call in on friends in Somerset on the way, then home to new lockdown restrictions. Hasn't been announced yet but will be this morning apparently [sigh]

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/08/2020 09:26

Good luck lonely. Food shopping while hungry is a killer.

Safe travels North

Wolfcub · 07/08/2020 09:34

Fingers crossed for good news Lonely. Have a safe trip home North

Life did you buy a cupboard and have a joiner fit it or did the joiner make the cupboard - there's some waves storage I'm looking to replace in the attic and I am contemplating what the best option might be

Morning. At dparents after a horrific night. The dc didn’t go to sleep until 10!!! Then Dh woke me up at midnight on a mosquito hunt, Dd was awake at 2 and I think I went back to sleep (on her floor) at 5.30.

Because dh is still wfh we get out the house on a Friday. So early morning up and out to dparents.

Dparents have taken ds to the beach for splashing. Dd and I are at their house currently and we’re going to the dr in a bit for her 12 month vaccinations. Then home for naps. She’s currently playing with a vtech baby walker. It’s loud. So loud.

ememem84 · 07/08/2020 11:26

Vaccination done. Phew. Dd very good. Barely cried. She’s now having a nap. Might join her!

Unescorted · 07/08/2020 11:49

Hope it goes well lonely.

north safe travels.

I need a recipe that uses lots of eggs - I picked up 24 for 60p yesterday. Tortilla will use 6 …

xmummy2princesx · 07/08/2020 12:08

Hi every1. I havent been active here 4 a couple of days. Just wanted 2 update every1. I have been struggling a bit with my MH lately and I have been speaking 2 my counsellor and we think I may have developed agoraphobia in lockdown. I’m a bit upset bcuz I’ve been wanting 2 get driving and a job but I’ve realised I’m pushing myself 2 far as this time a few months ago I wasn’t even getting out of bed and now I feel better I want 2 do everything. But I’ve wrote out a plan and am hoping that by the time Sullivan starts nursery that I can get a part time job and build up from there. But I’m not pushing myself any further than that at the minute as I’m barely keeping afloat just keeping me and the kids alive. I feel a lot better now I’ve planned my goals and have admitted to every1 my problems. I’ve still been going out in lockdown but every time I do I have panic attacks so I’m going 2 b honest with my family and get sum help. But just wanted 2 say that’s why I’ve not been here much lately. Will continue back 2 normal now tho hopefully!

Wolfcub · 07/08/2020 12:08

Hmmmm apparently I have a LOT more partially completed crochet projects than in remembered Blush

OP posts:
lifelongfrugaleer · 07/08/2020 12:38

have the nap em and yeah for brave dd and mummy
hhmm best get cracking wolf on those projects

ah mummy well done for admitting it and for being open about it. thats not meant to be patronising but genuinely half the battle is admitting there is a problem. keep talking we've been through all sorts together on here and will be around for you too.

Wolfcub · 07/08/2020 13:26

Sudden downpour, my Nearly dry washing is now very wet washing again. Second box of doom emptied. I found exh had dumped sticky sweet wrappers down the back of it which have melted into the skirting and carpet. Ffs!

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 07/08/2020 15:02

Hi all.
How did it go lonely?
north, hope the journey home was ok.
em, you must be exhausted, hope you had that nap.
wolf that is minging!
mummy, well done on recognising the signs, the hardest thing at times is asking for help. All of them on this thread are bloody amazing and helped me through my splitting up with my partner last year, I will be forever grateful.

Went to a tattooist today to inquire about getting my ex's name covered.
They can do the work, have been quoted £400, but could be more. Put down a £100 deposit.
What I'm getting it covered with means a lot to me, so I know it will be worth it.
