I don't blame the teachers either. This was an unprecedented situation and there were always going to be people who benefited from it and unfortunately people who lost out.

Hoping for a low spend day today.

Happierwithouthim · 18/08/2020 08:47

@ememem84

Back to the office today.

Ds woke up at 1 this morning crying because he needed toilet. He’s still in pull ups at night and this is the first time he’s done this. I’m proud of him for recognising it (although could have done without it!!)

Seems like both dc are back to mostly sleeping through which makes all the difference.

Today’s lunchtime jobs

Go to M&S and see if I can order bedroom furniture that we’ve looked at. Our M&S here is awkward. We can’t order online from the main website has to be from our location specific one. When you go in store you can’t order everything as they only shop certain things to the island.

We tried to order curtains once from them in a lovely duck egg blue. Nope. Could only order in white. Despite them having the blue in store as a sample.

Ended up sending them to grandmas house and bringing them home with me on my next visit.

That's fantastic for C em ds had a dry bed before he went to his dads last sat week, ex claimed he had 4 dry nights Hmm and last night he was dry again in hotel Grin

That's frustrating about m&s

Happierwithouthim · 18/08/2020 08:49

@lifelongfrugaleer

Me neither wolf. Hope your pay has been sorted while you are off.

That's annoying em.

Rain here and I have loads of washing to do. I will tumble what I can

I did this with last few washes as I wanted wash basket empty when I came back from hols. Actually spent my last day at home cleaning out fridge, got everything from cupboard that only au pair used & boxed it up for her, cleaned all floors & put away all clean clothes & did a grocery shop so that we're all sorted when hols are over Grin just remembered should've spilled milk down sink before I went oh well Smile
Happierwithouthim · 18/08/2020 08:55

@howlathebees

born my bag is similar, whenever we go for a day out I’m always the one who remembers everything.

That’s great news about ds em!

I spent £230 on safari park tickets. Can’t believe how expensive they are! But it was with the rides afterwards too. We’re bringing a packed lunch though can’t afford to buy out too.

Had a crap day really yesterday. We told DH’s family that we’re having another boy and some didn’t react very well. They very obviously wanted a granddaughter and basically said a 4th boy would be boring

How awful of them, a new baby who's healthy should be enough Angry
Happierwithouthim · 18/08/2020 08:56

@Lovemaltesers

Sorry to hear that north . So gutting for DS generally though, and a tough decision to make for him.

That’s so sad to hear howl, your DC is going to be special whatever!

We went out for lunch. After 50% off and gift voucher, it cost £9.91 for the four of us Grin

We’re made a list of things we need to get from b&q. We really need to do some jobs around the house! My mum has said she will get us some new lounge curtains as a wedding gift. So need to go and choose them this week. Current curtains are a nasty beige colour and were here when we moved in. Fed up of making do with them!

Wow serious frugaleering there Grin
Happierwithouthim · 18/08/2020 08:59

@Mrsmadevans

I need to get on the frugal weight loss too Hmm
You'll be most welcome there as is anyone from here
Happierwithouthim · 18/08/2020 09:04

@Unescorted

DM me if he want reassurance that I am a real person and not one of "Mum's made ups" as my 2 refer to you lovely people. Grin

Happierwithouthim · 18/08/2020 09:04

Welcome granny a previous frugaleer was also dreaming of a campervan on retirement, wonder if it came to pass laska???

Tayto that's horrible but at least you're not wondering if she changed her number I guess WinkShock
I kind of ghosted someone, if she'd asked why I'd have told her. A couple of things had happened that I let go but then the straw to break camels back happened.
She knew about my separation months before I told her yet never made contact to offer support, I felt she could've stepped up as a friend without letting me know she knew. She drew info from me about house buying & selling process even though she was looking to buy herself & then announces oh here's my new address! I just couldn't take it anymore. It was always take take take with her and friendship was very one sided.

Wolf that's very exciting about rescue dog, being separated is very liberating in ways isn't it?

Girlfriend I was going to leave living room until last but the furniture I want to buy will look silly with current carpet so I'm hoping funds will allow me to change it

Em wow massive fine, have never had a speeding ticket but that's just because I travel at the limit at all times. The phrase it's a limit not a target is definitely made for me!! I do speed on local roads however Wink

Tayto definitely calendars you can share my friend and her husband do. Google keep is an app you can share shopping lists on. I'm in a hotel most people wearing masks in shared areas of hotel but people attending a wedding yesterday weren't. It's a bit nerve wracking
Did you see the video of the pub in Dublin? Disgraceful behaviour free pouring drink into people's mouths

Born no music here

Happierwithouthim · 18/08/2020 09:05

Sorry for multiple posts I'm caught up now on hotel Wi-Fi, no phone reception though Grin

maddenlightfoot · 18/08/2020 10:06

Morning everyone... some spendy holiday spends here... entrance to an aquarium for the 5 of us (£75 but frugally we get a year's re-entry and we're here often)
...and new coats for the girls (lightweight padded ones that can be squished into a nursery/school bag as we're likely to have to take things back and forth each day rather than being able to leave stuff there and I don't want to feel like a pack-horse on the school run. £90. Slightly annoyed as I'd had the same coats in my amazon basket for ages at £20 each and didn't grab them when I should have so they were £30 each from Mountain Warehouse)
...hoping for a NSD today - beach day and picnic already made!

SnugglySnerd · 18/08/2020 10:27

I have just spent over an hour doing boring household admin. Which seems like a pain but it is done (for now). Maybe I should set aside an hour to do this once a week instead of trying to deal with things as and when they crop up and then we might all be a bit more organised! I have also changed all the beds, done all the name tapes for school and nursery and sent dh to the charity shop with 2 big bags of stuff. I am on it today!

Happierwithouthim · 18/08/2020 11:08

Tayto saw this and thought of you

August Always Adds Pocket Pressure, Frugal Friends Thrive Thriftily
Happierwithouthim · 18/08/2020 11:11

Snuggly go you!
I'm on hols got notification that the one school book that I had left to get was back in stock so did a collect at store for that before breakfast this morning.
Hopefully that'll be instore on thurs when I pass through town and pick up the main order of school books and I'll be finished that job.

Madden you reminded me regatta Ireland have sale on so I must check dc for sizing and see what needs to be bought

howlathebees · 18/08/2020 14:41

Oh north I’m so sorry. It must seem so huge to him, I think especially at his age when your whole life has been your education any pushback can seem like the end of the world because it literally is your world. I think it’s so difficult to see that no matter what happens life still goes on and in 10 years he’ll be looking back at this from either going to his insurance choice, or redoing this year and realise he’s ended up exactly where he wanted to be he’s just gone about it a different way. Is he completely unhappy with his insurance choice?

Thank you wolf

mrs you’re incredible with the amount you do for your family! They are extremely lucky to have you

snuggly my ILs have reputation for saying exactly what they think with very little consequence. I’m sorry you didn’t get much sleep!

unescorted good idea about the doll😂 it almost feels like that’s what they want, a little doll to put in the pretty dresses. They don’t seem to realise girls are much more than that!

Thanks north it really is awful of them! I’m glad others agree

happier they need to realise how lucky they are to have 4 gorgeous, happy and healthy grandchildren. It’s a lot more than others have!

madden holiday coats are something we always do. When we go to wales there’s an outdoorsy shop and the boys get a new coat each for our holidays. Bloody expensive tradition though!

Oh thank you snuggly I completely forgot about name tags! Am off to order them now.

£30.15 at soft play today. £10 entry for all 3 boys, plus 3 kids meals and 3 slushes, 1 adults meal and a fancy hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. Really happy with that tbh

SingToTheSky · 18/08/2020 14:54

North I’m so sorry the review hasn’t meant an improvement for DS. I can’t believe the college can’t make allowances for his illness FFS.

Spendy lately here - washing machine and Ikea order although have to actually go to ikea at some point soon (friend offered to drive... meatballs yay!) to get the main bits 🙄

A new friend sent me a job she thinks I should apply for. It is VERY me (it is autism related :o) but Oh Gosh Scary. It’s been too long. There’s also one criteria I don’t meet but it may be workable - I am going to ring them tomorrow 😬 and see if they have any more info. If not the organisation has some voluntary roles that might be a good idea for confidence/experience. Aaaaaah

ememem84 · 18/08/2020 15:04

sing amazing.

£12.50 lunch will colleague. Flat white and prawn sandwich with chippies. Yum.

Wolfcub · 18/08/2020 15:15

Sing, a bloke would apply whether or not they met 100% of the criteria. I've always excluded myself from applying for things but I've stopped that now because blokes will apply and get whether or not they meet every requirement

OP posts:
howlathebees · 18/08/2020 15:51

£21 on labels

SingToTheSky · 18/08/2020 15:56

You’re so right wolf that’s a good point. Nothing to lose other than a bit of time anyway! As long as I can get round the issue (which I will try and find out tomorrow) I should be considered I think.

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/08/2020 16:33

One of how many sing? Essential or desirable criteria?

SnugglySnerd · 18/08/2020 16:34

Ooh the job sounds exciting Sing and like you say, not.meeting one of the criteria is often workable.

Was soft play busy Howl? Are they limiting numbers? I'm not sure I'm ready for that just yet but I'm sure I'll change my mind once the cold weather sets in!

Have had a lovely afternoon at the park with one of my oldest and dearest friends who I haven't seen since early March. Our dcs are all roughly the same age and all went off playing together while we had a catch up. I'm not doing jacket spuds with tomato butter beans for tea, I saw it on the Tesco website and the dcs all love jps and butter beans so hopefully it will be a hit! If so it is a very cheap, easy and healthy tea so it'll be a good one for a school night.

howlathebees · 18/08/2020 17:01

The job sounds so exiting sing!

snuggly we had to call up and book beforehand as they’re limiting the amount of people in, wasn’t busy at all. You had 90 mins and then the next lot came in. I felt really at easy tbh, brought hand sanitiser and made sure the DC washed their hands before we ate but was run really well

howlathebees · 18/08/2020 17:10

Attached a pic of the labels we designed! I’ve scribbled out our last name (I don’t mind you knowing first names) but I feel like it’s Christmas! They’re so cool I’m really excited for them😂. I feel like a really cool mum, mine were scribbled in with biro so I’ve always wanted to get nice ones for the DC. I realise how sad I sound, but no one else will appreciate it so thought I’d share it here!

Are you somewhere nice on holiday Happier?

There have been a few children tested positive in varies schools near me. They seem to be downplaying this - I suppose time will tell.

Won't be a no spend day as going to my friends house for a takeaway I haven't seen them for about 6 months so lots to catch up on.

Love the labels howl

SingToTheSky · 18/08/2020 18:14

It is driving. It’s listed last of a few (general list rather than essential/desirable). Friend sent it as in the council she knows a few people who got round it by showing they could get round without it, but it depends how much travelling between locations there is - I’m going to ask generally about how many locations and how the hours are spread out etc to see if it would be too much travel. The role itself isn’t actually council but a charity sort of under their wing if that makes sense
