unescorted make sure she takes a bit more than that!!

Spends £127 Amazon - on a cabinet for our living room.

I’ve mentally made a list of things to sell while I’m on my annual leave.

Just dropped one of my air pods in the bath 😭😱 so far it’s ok...

Also went for a walk this afternoon and picked a takeaway box each of sloes and blackberries. Woooo

howlathebees · 16/08/2020 20:44

unescorted is she on a group chat with people in her uni halls? It’s good to check what others are bringing, when I went there were way more cheese graters and saucepans than needed!

SnugglySnerd · 16/08/2020 21:11

@Wolfcub

Snuggly the weightloss thread is here Frugaleers talk food/fitness & weight loss - 2020 part 3 [[http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weight]]losss_chat/3946098-Frugaleers-talk-food-fitness-weight-loss-2020-part-3
Thanks, I'm heading over there right now...
Bornlazy · 16/08/2020 21:42

I wish I could be like that Unescorted I have to plan for every eventuality when I go anywhere. I am the person that everyone asks when they need something as it's kind of expected that I'll have it. Even my handbag is full - plasters, paracetamol, charger, torch, wipes etc. It's like carrying a suitcase 🙈 Thankfully my ds have not inherited the madness and I have to bite my tongue when they go anywhere as they are very much take it as it comes people and don't stress about things the way I would. I say good on your dd!!

Is there no chance the exam results could be changed to the teachers predicted grades the way they have been in Scotland? My niece almost didn't get into her teaching course as she was downgraded from a C to a D and was absolutely devastated but it has now been revoked and she starts her course tomorrow.

My kitchen spends included new oven trays as mine were minging a bit past their best however my new roasting tin doesn't fit in my oven. Dh wants to keep it as we will definitely be getting a new kitchen next year with hopefully bigger oven, but I think it'll just be more clutter and it would be more sensible to just give it away to anyone that wants it.

Hello I need to join this

Back to work today. I do not want to log on Confused

ememem84 · 17/08/2020 06:39

Back to the office today.

Ds woke up at 1 this morning crying because he needed toilet. He’s still in pull ups at night and this is the first time he’s done this. I’m proud of him for recognising it (although could have done without it!!)

Seems like both dc are back to mostly sleeping through which makes all the difference.

Today’s lunchtime jobs

Go to M&S and see if I can order bedroom furniture that we’ve looked at. Our M&S here is awkward. We can’t order online from the main website has to be from our location specific one. When you go in store you can’t order everything as they only shop certain things to the island.

We tried to order curtains once from them in a lovely duck egg blue. Nope. Could only order in white. Despite them having the blue in store as a sample.

Ended up sending them to grandmas house and bringing them home with me on my next visit.

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/08/2020 07:01

Me neither wolf. Hope your pay has been sorted while you are off.

That's annoying em.

Rain here and I have loads of washing to do. I will tumble what I can

northender · 17/08/2020 07:20

Okay need to get back to some normality today. Not looking forward to work as its a really difficult time trying to balance forced innovation due to covid (exciting) with pressure from managers who only care about waiting times. Hey ho, it has to be done. wolf good luck, first day back after leave is always horrible. Sounds like you've had a productive time though.
unescorted love your dd's frugal approach to uni! Some basics of her own to keep in her room may be good though?
Em the joys of island life. Hope you manage to get what you want. The speeding fine sounded hefty. Ouch.
Born people like you are always good to know! I have a couple of friends like you who have handbags with everything in! They are always my first port of call for emergency paracetamol etc. Unlike me who goes out with keys an a bank card in my jeans pocket (and possibly a mask now!).
Good luck to your dd this week Adora.
Hope the weather is better than expected for you this week Christmas
The A level results have been a complete mess. The adjustments didn't affect ds, instead, his policy (which had always been successful) of cramming for exams, finally caught up with him and presumably quite a few others. He knows what he was capable of, but it's too late now. I know others on here who have sons who have the same approach....beware! The ME obviously made a difference too, but if he had worked just that bit harder for all the interim assessments he would be in to his uni of choice now. Anyway we wait for their review of his application and hope, while preparing for the insurance choice. He's staying at home whatever anyway so that's easy.

Busy cricket weekend here for both dc. Because we are in an area with increased restrictions, lifts to games cannot be shared so we are the taxi service again. Add to that, ds wants driving practice so we have to do non motorway routes which slows us down. Anyway he had a good day yesterday with a win and a 50 so he was happy despite his usual Sunday night exhaustion. Dd really enjoyed her ladies cricket yesterday and is actually showing a lot of promise (no surprise after so many years of garden cricket, beach cricket and practising with ds at the club!
£150 spent on groceries which seems to be our usual now. £70 on meat from farm shop, but that will last 4 weeks. Shouldn't be any spends this week although we may do a tea on eat out to help out. It looks like a quiet week on the calendar so maybe one to catch up in the evenings. Dh is waiting for a start date to be agreed for his new job, but is really looking forward to it now.
Have got meals planned for the week and am trying to organise lunches too so that no last minute lunches need to be bought. Roasted veg & pitta bread today.

ememem84 · 17/08/2020 12:57

Ok. So. A spendy lunch hour.

£78 next in store on shorts Tshirts and jammies for Dhs birthday
£28 on prada homme aftershave and showergel in local dept store (was £98 but had some vouchers to use and a full beauty loyalty card which gave me 15% off)

£504 M&S on two bedside cabinets and two tall boys for our room

£72 on 4 bath towels for the kiddos. Ds is too big for the hooded baby towels we have now and I want them to have their own. Both grey ish to go with the bathroom. Two with bunnies two with penguins.

howlathebees · 17/08/2020 12:59

born my bag is similar, whenever we go for a day out I’m always the one who remembers everything.

That’s great news about ds em!

I spent £230 on safari park tickets. Can’t believe how expensive they are! But it was with the rides afterwards too. We’re bringing a packed lunch though can’t afford to buy out too.

Had a crap day really yesterday. We told DH’s family that we’re having another boy and some didn’t react very well. They very obviously wanted a granddaughter and basically said a 4th boy would be boring

howlathebees · 17/08/2020 14:54

Also have those of you with dc doing a levels seen what’s happened in wales? Will that benefit any of you?

Unescorted · 17/08/2020 16:09

North Arora hope the news is good for you too & they haven't already lost their places.

Bornlazy · 17/08/2020 16:42

Great news about the exam results hope it helps some of your dc.

Spendy day again today 🙈 £50 B&Q ( they have stopped doing nhs discount 😨) on a new light and kick boards. £67.45 in Dunelm on blinds, lamps and a neck hot water bottle. £40 cash and carry on lightbulbs, new duvet and pillows and then £90 on vinyl for kitchen. We really need a new kitchen but we are putting it off until next year so we are giving it a bit of a makeover in the meantime.

howl how horrible of your in-laws. I would be furious at those comments. They are all unique and never boring.

northender · 17/08/2020 18:00

It's great news in general but not for ds unfortunately as his college assessed grades are what he got and what he is upset with so no change for him. Sitting his Business & Maths exams is the only thing left for him but that would mean taking the year out when there is going to be precious little paid work around. So insurance uni place it will be probably unless a miracle happens.

Lovemaltesers · 17/08/2020 18:30

Sorry to hear that north . So gutting for DS generally though, and a tough decision to make for him.

That’s so sad to hear howl, your DC is going to be special whatever!

We went out for lunch. After 50% off and gift voucher, it cost £9.91 for the four of us Grin

We’re made a list of things we need to get from b&q. We really need to do some jobs around the house! My mum has said she will get us some new lounge curtains as a wedding gift. So need to go and choose them this week. Current curtains are a nasty beige colour and were here when we moved in. Fed up of making do with them!

SnugglySnerd · 17/08/2020 18:54

Sorry to hear that North. I thought of you and Adora s soon as I heard the announcement.

Very spendy day, collected dry cleaning and bought 4 presents for upcoming family birthdays.

ememem84 · 17/08/2020 19:38

Dh is out on the paddleboard. I’m home with the dc. They’ve both been in bed now for half hour not is quiet.

Famous last words coming up

“I’m going to enjoy a nice dinner and some rubbish tv and enjoy the quiet!”

Taytocrisps · 17/08/2020 20:35

I made a few calls earlier and sorted out some of my maintenance jobs. Boiler man is coming next Tuesday and the shower service guy is going to ring me back with a date and time.

I've had a lot of restaurant meals lately so I fancied a bit of home cooking. I did some lamb chops with a rosemary and onion sauce with mash and carrots. The sauce turned out ok but I seem to have used every pot and jug in the house Blush. I'm having a quick cuppa and then I'll put my marigolds on and get scrubbing.

Wolf hope your first day back wasn't too traumatic.

life I left a washload out on the line yesterday and it's rained all day. If it's still raining tomorrow, I'll take them in and put them through the machine again.

howl sorry your in-laws have been so unpleasant. Don't let them rain on your parade. A new baby is always exciting. When are you due?

em we had a dramatic rescue here involving paddleboards last week - www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2020/0813/1158928-galway/. The girls involved were incredibly lucky - there could have been a very tragic outcome.

Bornlazy · 17/08/2020 20:58

Snuggly would you be allowed to wear smart scrubs when you go back to school? A lot of our consultants have bought their own to wear so they can wash them at high temperatures ( this thought came to me when you mentioned dry cleaning - it's not as random as it sounds 😆) without ruining their own clothes.

North I'm sorry the changes haven't made things any better for your ds. Is he still able to appeal because of his ME? It's really penalised the last minute crammers, who pull it out the bag at the last minute, which seems so unfair.

My ds2 is due to sit his national 5s next year and I keep telling him that he will need to try hard all year in case something similar happens again.

Love that's a great saving on your meal. How are the wedding plans coming along?

Bornlazy · 17/08/2020 21:03

Tayto what a fabulous outcome. I bet their poor families were fearing the worst after all that time.

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/08/2020 21:20

That's an awful thing to say about new baby news.

Never ever say the Q word em. Total jinx.

Sorry the change hasn't worked for DS North. Pleased he got his insurance offer though. Can't believe today for them, poor kids.

Nsd today woop woop. Work was well first day back work

ememem84 · 17/08/2020 21:43

They’re both still asleep.

I had a huge bowl of cheesy pasta. And binge watched the simpsons on Disney+

Dh has just got back.

tayto that’s my fear. Dh doesn’t wear a life jacket and usually tells me roughly where he’s going and how long for. Today none of that. He never goes alone but still.

Today he was with a friend who is a super experienced kayaker. They had a good time and stopped for a beer after. So he’s had a good evening.

howl I think I missed your in law update so have flicked back and read it. How rude! I felt for my sil when we told mil that we were having Dd. Sil has 2 boys and we have ds. Mil longed for a daughter and was so excited with our Dd news. Sil said that mil said she was so excited Dd wasn’t just another boy.

Congratulations!!! Babies are awesome. although I wouldn’t want another one In contrast to my mil When we found out ds was a boy my parents were so so happy - as it’s just me and my sister so a boy is a novelty! Haha.

One more spend from me £3.59 on milk.

Rainbowlemons · 17/08/2020 21:50

unescorted- Thank you for the manchester library info. I put down web membership and got access for two months.I can always rejoin again later. I love the fact they have a really good selection. I don't think I will be buying lots more books in the future.

Today was also a spendy day for me. Though I was unexpectedly given £75 as a gift.

£13 in claires- they had a buy 3 get three items free offer.

howl- congratulations on the new baby. I'm sorry their reaction was weird.
£7 on pretzels.

We went out because my sister needed trousers we had seen online but wanted to try on first but we couldn't find them in the shop.

Mrsmadevans · 17/08/2020 22:24

That is awful of ppl to say that about your Ds4 Howl l am so sorry Flowers after suffering from infertility for 13 yrs l can tell you as long as they are healthy and you are too then that is ALL that matters Smile
Born if l could wind the clock back l don't know if l would have retired when l did , none of my siblings help me with my parents , Bob's daughter doesn't help with Bob and like my Own siblings she lives on their doorstep. I think Mum's care would have to have been shared or she would have had t use their inheritance to pay for care. As it is l can't do anything else and l wouldn't want to but we have no life . I do however resent my siblings very much and do not give themthe time of day.
Girlie one thing that we are lucky with is that the NHS pension even though it has suffered a lot of changes is still a relatively good one, the day will come sooner than you think , it creeps up on you honestly and you will be so happy to have a stable income from your pension Smile
