Fab em good use of money to avoid future arguments over the state of house I found when I'd small children!

€30.10 on fruit & veg box including €2.50 delivery charge but means I can zoom past that section of supermarket, was in and out last weekend in 30 mins including picking up some clothing for dd Grin worth it for that & for quality too.

Au pair announced yesterday she's leaving us in August. After a night tossing and turning I've come up with a plan and a backup plan. Downside - loss of security, ds is mad about her, she's good to do some light housework, massive change upside - not sharing house anymore, not taxing insuring and fuelling a second car, will sell it if ex h doesn't want it, no need to do attic conversion in next house, so might be able to do other renovations more quickly.

ememem84 · 25/06/2020 14:11

Yep that’s what I thought happier I’m so glad we’ve finally done it. It’s going to help us enormously.

Have sorted a bag of stuff for charity shop (mostly my wardrobe). Kids toys to be sorted later this afternoon before nursery pick up. Then everything for charity shop is being taken tomorrow.

I was going to use the afternoon to sort the garage. But it’s roasting in there. So won’t bother.

Lying in the sun reading book now.

Happierwithouthim · 25/06/2020 15:07

You sound much more upbeat than when I was last checking in on the thread em

ememem84 · 25/06/2020 15:56

I am happier kids back at nursery dh finally getting things organised etc

Happierwithouthim · 25/06/2020 16:20

That's great.

Lovemaltesers · 25/06/2020 16:27

That looks well worth the money em

I have officially already upset my mum over wedding. She emails me saying “when you get married in a church, all her friends can come to sing the hymns.” That is pretty much the only thing we’ve decided- we’re not doing any of that!

Ahhh... this is why I’d never pushed DP about getting married!! Sad I’d only get married in a church if DP wanted to, he doesn’t. She’s also told me not to invite my gay cousin 🤯🤬

lifelongfrugaleer · 25/06/2020 18:02

Ah wedding bring out the best in everyone. Elope and we will be your witnesses. In site we can do a frugal afterparty. Bound to be a discount voucher Grin

Look great em. It's the little touches.

Oh no happier. Stressful night. Will you also be able to cope with school run.

Nsd today

Lovemaltesers · 25/06/2020 18:11

Ha ha life. I don’t know how I’d introduce you lot to DP without alerting him to this thread I’m sure someone who knows me is reading

So you’re not going to have a new au pair happier? Will that work with exDH?

Wolfcub · 25/06/2020 19:50

It's. Still. Too. Fucking. Hot.

I don't do well in heat you may have guessed. Ds does not do well in heat. My staff are being ridiculous. It has been a ridiculously long day.

I've had two beers in the garden with a friend. They've gone right to my head

I had an ocado order coming today. I was sure I did. I must not have checked out. So no order. The cupboards are bare of "easy" dinners. We are having takeaway.

I need these fucking interview results before I go completely mental

As you where. Nothing to see here. Just a middle aged woman losing her shit

Wolfcub · 25/06/2020 19:51

House looks fab by the way Em and being able to do renovations for you alone is a great upside Happier

North good news re ds's thinking

LonelyOversharer · 25/06/2020 20:11

It's even hot here! Way too hot. I got in from work to find all my humans in a hot stuffy house. Ugh. No open windows as ds is apparently scared of flies now.

Yesterday was £3.10 postage and today a nsd. But I'll be shopping on Saturday and that evens the nsd's right out. Food. Just food. More food.

unescorted dd is going to Oxford!! Wow! I'd not defer that either!
north sad your ds is having to miss out on what must have seemed a dream trip, but good he's thinking about alternative plans. Can't imagine how hard it must be for kids just at that age right now.

Busy day at work, doing my right job today. We're limping on with 3 staff just now (other 5 furloughed) and will probably be back on furlough sometime next week. Just not enough orders in.

Not cooking tonight, it's too hot. The dc can have ceral or ice cream or whatever.

ememem84 · 25/06/2020 20:17

Thunder here. And three upset babies. Ds is scared. Dd is scared. Catface is scared. Dh is a bit 🙄 that they’re scared. I’ve suggested he go out into the garden and stay there.

I said to dh I’d marry him in a church if it was important to him. It wasn’t. We didn’t. Much to dms annoyance.

Dgm refuses to come because we weren’t marrying in a church. She’s since said it’s ok (🙄) but every time we visit her we are frog marched to church for a blessing of our marriage.

love I may have missed this but was there a ring? Got a picture?

Lovemaltesers · 25/06/2020 20:30

It would actually make the whole thing better if my DM just refused to come maybe I need to orchestrate a big argument

No ring yet. I get to choose it Smile

ememem84 · 25/06/2020 20:33

Ooooh. Shiny.

I gave Dm three strikes. Then she had to behave and hope ddad would bring her as his plus one.

I lost if over napkins. We had a huge row over napkins. Three days before. I’ve never been so angry at her. I knew it would be something trivial that tipped me over the edge though.

Unescorted · 25/06/2020 20:46

Sorry posted and dashed off …. it was Steve Bate MBE. He is lovely. He is doing the forward for DH's book about riding bikes with ds.

Lonely she has been a human helium balloon since she got her interview. BTW do not take the curve into Booths Kendal carpark too quickly with a dodgy wheel hub. Mine exploded & I had to be recovered all the way home.... this is the advantage of living opposite the garage.

Love the family dramatics put me off for years. If she mithers you can always point out that it is just a contract between your father and future husband that was misappropriated by the church to give them an income stream.

I love thunder and lightening....

Today was a shit day at work - so wolf I am joining you for a beer.

lifelongfrugaleer · 25/06/2020 21:00

Ah you can't be outed then Love. Family dramas it is.

I love thunder.

We did the church thing but got most of our own way. Looking at mil inviting random. Whose phone rang during our vows and they let it ring. Angry

Hot here too wolf. Gonna cool down now though. It would after we got NT tickets for Sunday.

Thinking of heading your way ish lonely and North for the summer. Until they wanted £540 for 4 nights in a hobbit hole. Borrowing a tent instead.

SnugglySnerd · 25/06/2020 21:23

I'm having a beer too (my second actually) it has been so hot today and a long evening with 3 hot, tired, grumpy children.
Have started xmas shopping! 3 books for stocking fillers.

@LonelyOversharer

Hi! Thanks, I was a bit tentative about stopping by as I kind of just dissapeared without reason.

Anyhoo we are all same as really!

I was furloughed and then back 3 weeks ago. I was meant to be refurloughed from this week as there's no work to do, but that lasted 3 hours and so I took a day's holiday instead and am back in tomorrow!

The dc are feral, not a lot of work going on here!

DD1 stormed her GCSE's and is already half way through her A-levels, she's still dead set on Law.

Dp limps on (literally) all appointments postponed so just treading water for now.

But I'm super! Lockdown was surprisingly easy with my lot, and it was so good to have my job to go back to.

Money wise I'm up shit creek, so no change there, except it doesn't stress me out anymore. My ex went a year without paying anything, and at least I don't feel physically sick when I have to message him now. Tax credits messed up twice, but hopefully that's sorted now too.

My God my dc eat a lot!

Will catch up a bit more, but thanks for the welcome back. em wow your dd is squinky gorgeous!

Lonely you don't know me from Adam but l can tell you this lot here have really missed you , they have been asking each other where you have gone , so glad you are back & in the immortal words of Jerry Herman who wrote Hello Dolly my favourite musical

'Oh, hello Lonely, well, hello Lonely
It's so nice to have you back where you belong
You're lookin' swell, Lonely, I can tell, Lonely
You're still glowin', you're still crowin', you're still goin' strong
We feel the room swayin' while the band's playin'
One of your old favourite songs from way back when
So, take her wrap fellas, find her an empty lap, fellas
Lonely won't never ever go away again!
Yes l am nuts but quite harmless , welcome back!

Mrsmadevans · 25/06/2020 23:31

Sea that is one gorgeous cake well done ! Smile
Now l have used up a lot of mssages to make up for missing you all, l will just say this Grin
IT'S BOILING HERE! Grin
Night everyone hope you can sleep ok [smile[

Wolfcub · 26/06/2020 09:31

I am stress cleaning. I haven't cleaned properly for weeks and I need a distraction. It's still too ducking hot

ChristmasSeacow · 26/06/2020 10:22

I’m underground waiting for the tube (in the office today). I am sweating already, the remainder of my makeup is melting off my face under my mask Hmm

ememem84 · 26/06/2020 10:28

I am at parents. i am trying to finalise my assignment.
