Ooh unescorted who?!?!

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/06/2020 19:42

Oh how exciting

Wolfcub · 23/06/2020 19:46

I'm sure we could throw and amazing frugal hen do.

SnugglySnerd · 23/06/2020 20:03

Ooh who is that Unescorted?
I am very hot and tired. My mum sent me some Waitrose vouchers so thinking of a nice treat to get!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 23/06/2020 20:24

Congratulations love! Lovely news.

Amazing cake Sea, it looks really professional, happy birthday to your dd. I bet it was emotional seeing your mum again 💕

I've been assignment writing today, have written 1000 words but I'm not really very happy with it 😕

maddenlightfoot · 23/06/2020 20:34

Omg love that is immense! Congratulations! It took my dh 15 years to propose... would have been 12 but then apparently I put undue pressure on him after a friends proposal/a pot plant/making a joke at dinner (long story) put him off for 3 years 😅!

Sea that cake is gorgeous! Clever you!

Em I need some Jersey travel advice! I now have some BA travel vouchers and am thinking of booking Jersey for next year for us and my mum. We used to go loads as children but would always go there and back in a day. I want to stay for 3 nights next Easter. There are only about 3 AirB&Bs! Hotels are better but would like some insider knowledge - where would you holiday?!! Presuming we want to be in St Helier x

Lovemaltesers · 23/06/2020 20:58

We’ve been together a similar amount of time madden and no there wasn’t a ring unless DD2s plastic mini mouse one counts sea 😂 We need to get someone to agree to socially distance babysit so we can go ring shopping I don’t think DP has looked at the cost of rings yet . I think we are going to go rather low key but not sure about timescale either. We could possibly do it sooner rather than later before my dads dementia gets much worse. I think we’re likely to go registry office unless we find somewhere small where we could do the whole thing. At the moment the registry office have suspended bookings unless it is for 2021. But anyway, ring first!
My day at work was nuts. I didn’t get a chance to tell most of my colleagues until after lunch. Most of the people I saw in the morning were not having a good day so it didn’t seem the time!

Lovemaltesers · 23/06/2020 21:04

madden my DP said that none of his family had asked him for ages when he was going to propose, so he said he was asking when he wanted 🤷‍♀️. It was very memorable one Boxing Day, just after DD1 was born when his grandad asked him when we were getting married. Hilarious now looking back, but very awkward at the time!

ememem84 · 23/06/2020 21:31

madden

St helier is probably best - the main bus stop is there and shops etc. So depending on whether you’re hiring a car itd be best yes.

I’ve heard good things about the apartments at The Merton Hotel - self catering fun pool etc.

There are also sc lodges at Les Ormes (west of the island) which are nice. Pricey but v nice.

Or have a look at the jersey heritage website. There are loads of heritage properties for rent. My aunt and uncle stayed at the radio tower at corbierre a few years ago. So fun!!!

We’re staying for one night at the zoo for dh’s birthday.

LonelyOversharer · 24/06/2020 07:27

Morning!
Such an easy day at work yesterday, basically wielding a glue stick, tape and no more nails. Not my usual job there, but it's what needs doing.

Took dd2 to hobbycraft after as she'd finally got into the orthodontist to have her braces rebuilt after 3 months. She spent birthday money, I spent £28.

Then Asda, top up £68. This is how all the food shops are going just now.

fuelled both cars, dp's £40 full, mine £10 to get home. Hopefully Dp will fix my car today as its wheel bearing is, um, gone. I had to ditch it in December to avoid a crash as its been wonky since then. So I'm taking his nice car to work (that doesn't make awful grindy noises and veer about scarily).

Spent £77 on tools for Dp (wood saws, latest hobby woodwork) and made £25 selling bike shiz on eBay.

northender · 24/06/2020 07:32

sea that cake is amazing, as usual. Glad you've been able to have your mum stay.
unescorted look forward to hearing about your star struck BBQ evening. Glad your Dd is happy with her uni decision. Ds is in a bit of a pickle really & I have no idea what to advise for the best. His aim was to apply for a project management degree apprenticeship next year (hard to get on but what he really wants.) He has uni offers which he was hoping to defer & use as a back up if he didn't get the apprenticeship. In the year between he was planning a trip to Australia, taking in lots of cricket World Cup games (tickets & internal flights booked). Now it looks like the cricket will be cancelled & who knows what travel will be possible anyway? He can't get work here at the moment to save money for the possible trip. Will BAe recruit next year? Will uni allow him to defer his place? What will he do in the year out if he can't travel & isn't able to get a job? So many questions & no definite answers. He doesn't want to talk about it as his heart was so set on a plan which now may not happen.

Car going for MOT & service today. Fingers crossed there won't be anything major to have done.
After yesterday's announcement we should be able to get our little summer break, 2 nights camping at friends and 3 nights in Devon (apartment booked) to visit family.

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/06/2020 17:19

That sound like my perfect work day lonely. How did you get on after consolidating everything!? That was you wasn't it. Hope its still manageable and dp got his done

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 24/06/2020 17:36

All quiet here today! I've been working from home again, bit sick of my living room now tbh!

Dd has gone off to her nans for the day/night and taken the dog so it's very quiet here 😕 need to do some assignment work and get off mn.

Happierwithouthim · 24/06/2020 18:24

Congrats Love brilliant news Grin

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 24/06/2020 20:17

I've just booked us a little holiday in Devon in August, hoping that's not too optimistic 😬 £268 for 4 nights near sidmouth for the both of us and the pooch!

Had a right stress with Airbnb trying to book it, they eventually took the booking after wanting a photograph of my driving licence 🙄

I'm so ready for a holiday!

TeenPlusTwenties · 24/06/2020 20:22

@maddenlightfoot Where to stay in Jersey depends on what you want to do when there.

If you are just relaxing and wanting beach/promenade walks & pottering then St Brelade's Bay or St Aubins are nice.

If you are wanting to go everywhere by bus then agree St Helier is most central.

We always take / hire a car, and prefer to be on the West or North Coast.

ememem84 · 24/06/2020 22:20

teen hi!!!! I love to hear about people who’ve visited here!!

I am so so very lucky to live here. It’s beautiful (biased).

DrMadelineMaxwell · 24/06/2020 23:13

Yesterday = NSD.

Today - quite the opposite. :)
I've splurged on a new laptop for home so I can take my old one to my classroom to make my work there easier for the next 3 weeks while we are open with groups of kids, but still managing the online learning too.

We are video calling groups when they aren't in school and have had all sorts of tech problems, so I'll use my old laptop for that!
A cheap and cheerful HP one from Argos - £300. I checked for cashback first but there was none available.

Also the house painter has finally had decent weather to finish the job - and it looks marvellous. He's coming back tomorrow pm when it's all completely dry to double check he's happy with it and add any finishing touches if anything shows up as it's fully dried and then I get to pay him - £900! Ouch.

northender · 25/06/2020 06:55

Morning all.
Not back in work until Tuesday, need the time off, but not sure what to do. Local "beauty spots" are apparently rammed at the moment with the hot weather, but friends went to the Lakes for the first time this year yesterday & said it was lovely, just how it used to be, so we might do that on Monday.

Mum is venturing out for the first time today. Her craft group via WhatsApp has helped keep her sane & one of the ladies is having afternoon tea in her garden. Mum will take her own plate, cutlery etc & won't stay long but I'm so glad she's doing it. I'm going to book an appointment at one of our local fabric shops & take her at some point soon.

After writing about ds yesterday morning, he spoke to me about his plans last night. He is now seriously considering uni this year if he gets the grades. Whatever happens in the end, I'm just glad he's considering all options.

My car had MOT & service yesterday £350 including full new exhaust unit. It's the turn of our family car today so fingers crossed it won't need too much doing.
Made a rhubarb & strawberry crumble slice yesterday with fruit from the garden which is lovely, but not waistline friendly.

Wolfcub · 25/06/2020 07:03

It's. Too. Fucking. Hot.

lifelongfrugaleer · 25/06/2020 07:11

Dreadful nights sleep here. I agree wolf.

That's good North. Everywhere will be rammed. I considered the beach today but noo.
Good news DM is going out.

Spend yesterday. £209 sea salt but at least half will go back. £45 butchers, £15 co-op.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 25/06/2020 08:21

It is too hot and I'm seeing patients today so will have my bloody awful uniform on and PPE

ememem84 · 25/06/2020 09:05

so hot here too. i went out for a run early doors but it was still 23 degrees...!

cleaners are here. dh organised for them to come in this morning for a deep clean (he is my fave!)

then every other week they'll be here for a couple of hours. so so nice. spendy but worth it.

lifelongfrugaleer · 25/06/2020 09:32

I've just arranged for my cleaner to come back on Tuesday. We have to leave the house

ememem84 · 25/06/2020 11:42

I’m so happy.

Cleaner did a deep clean (three of them in 2 hours cost £90). House is amazing. I’m not even sure I’m in the right house.

They folded my toilet paper!!!!! And made our bed look like a hotel one!!! So so lovely. 😀😀

Have also been to waitrose and bought food. £142.

I bought everything on the list (although dh tolled his eyes because he wrote “fruit” and I basically bought all the fruit... same with veg...but we will eat it all).

Extras were drain unblocker, and seeds (pumpkin seeds sesame seeds) and crispy onion bits for salads.
