He isn't alone! Ds it talking like he is a character on GTA. Makes taking him to the supermarket difficult.

The universities are piling on the pressure to get the Y13's to accept an offer. DD has been told she can't defer by her first choice and her second choice and rejections are offering unconditional places.

ememem84 · 22/06/2020 21:59

Interesting article on radio 4 today re unis. Students were saying how they’re feeling they’ve missed out this year. Strikes then lockdown means basically a full term of first year for some.

ChristmasSeacow · 22/06/2020 22:00

Lonely!!!! I’ve really missed you, and think of you often (mostly in the context of flapjacks and knitting Grin). As Snuggly says, many of us make your flapjacks regularly. I’m so glad you are back and doing well! Are you still crafting? What are you making at the moment?

Unescorted what do you think she’ll do? I must say of all the times in my life I would have NOT wanted to live through a pandemic, university is top of the list. It’s such a shame Sad. A difficult decision for that whole year group.

I’ve been MIA - had sooooo much cleaning and tidying to do before my DM came to stay (she’s joined our bubble) - the spare bed was under a foot of ‘stuff‘ Blush and much of the house was actually grimy. Anyway, after two solid day’s of manic tidying and cleaning (and some late nights) I got it to a respectable state. Also had a little ‘party’ for DD yesterday - my sisters came to sit in the garden and marvel at how much she’s grown and how DS has new front teeth Grin. Today was DD’s actual birthday -3! - and I took the day off so we could go out with DM for a picnic. Just £3.50 on parking and a lovely day was had. She’s just a joy to spend time with though if I have to read Elmer on Stilts AGAIN at bedtime tomorrow I’m going on strike

This year she had a Sarah and Duck cake. It involved a lot of chocolate, 12 eggs and almost a kilo of ganache on the outside, a bit big for a party of 6 Wink. We’ve been delivering chunks of cake to her local friends today. I managed to stick to the diet and not eat any cake or scrape out the buttercream or ganache bowls 😇

Good timing really as tonight my oven was cutting in and out. I think it’s a problem with the power supply. I have had this thing repaired several times since I bought it so I’m not happy about it costing me even more, but i don’t want to replace it as I don’t want a range cooker in my new kitchen.

Right, back to work tomorrow but first, a bit of knitting before bed.

Aww Happy Birthday to your dd, sea.
Sounds like she had an amazing day!

Lovemaltesers · 22/06/2020 22:55

lonely!! Wahoo! You’re back,

It’s my birthday too sea. I’m sure you must have told me last year too and the previous years But I’d forgotten.
DP got me a 🦄 birthday cake.

It was a pretty normal average day until I got home then.... DP proposed! He completely blindsided me 😂 Apparently no one in his family had asked him for ages when we were getting married, therefore it was his decision to ask me. He’s a strange one 😍

Had some champagne and now I can’t sleep!

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 22/06/2020 23:15

Happy Birthday to you too Love.
Did you say yes?!

northender · 22/06/2020 23:18

Happy birthday & congratulations love

Lovemaltesers · 22/06/2020 23:23

Ha ha, I keep forgetting that I’m meant to tell people I said yes! DD2 rather hilariously interjected and said “say no” which meant by the time I’d finished laughing and a few tears I then finally said yes.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 22/06/2020 23:31

Aww huge congratulations love!

Bornlazy · 22/06/2020 23:44

Congratulations Love what a lovely lockdown birthday surprise 💍🍾🥂

Lonely how lovely to have you back. I too think of you every time I make your flapjacks. Are you still knitting your little figures?

Both my ds are treating this like one big extended holiday. They are staying up late then sleeping late then once they are awake in the morning/afternoon it takes at least another hour before they are ready to start work as they need a lengthy breakfast and then a shower. I have given up nagging as I am fighting a losing battle.

Happy Birthday to your dd Sea beautiful cake as always. That’s great that your dm is joining your bubble. Your dc will be so excited to see her again.

em your dd is super cute and looks very like her brother.

Nsd today. I thought we needed cat biscuits but I found some in the cupboard under the stairs.

LaneBoy · 23/06/2020 00:31

Aww happy birthday to DD sea and to love - congratulations 😍

Happy birthday Sea's dd. That cake is stunning as always. Glad your mum has joined your bubble, was ds glad to see her?

Love happy birthday and congratulations

ememem84 · 23/06/2020 06:54

love happy birthday and congratulations!!

A wedding!!!! How exciting. I’ll get a new hat! 🥰😙😏

LonelyOversharer · 23/06/2020 07:01

love congratulations! That's so lovely!

unescorted I didn't know the uni's weren't allowing deferrals, I suppose it makes sense for their intake, but not so fair on the kids.

Lovely cake as ever sea I had 2 birthdays in June, my baby ds is 8! And dd2 14. Cakes not note worthy but very tasty.

Still crafting, but fell down a cross stitch hole. Now I have a million more wips. I'll never learn.

Unescorted · 23/06/2020 07:05

Love Congratulations! Happy birthday too!
Em shall we co-ordinate. Have a Frugaleers colour theme?

Sea happy belated birthday for your dd. Where has that 3 years gone?

Re DD- she is going. Oxford won't defer and she doesn't want to risk not getting in next year. Her college is putting in place bubbles (or so DD tells me). She should be OK in the studio setting because there is a quite a bit of room. All her teaching is 1 to 1 already so should be easy to manage. She sees not having tourists taking Harry Potter photos every 2 minutes as an advantage and it looks as if she can get from her room to her studio / teaching spaces via back ways not open to the public.

Unescorted · 23/06/2020 07:12

Sea I was dazzled by Love's news and then distracted by parental pride (never ask me what DD is doing - I become insufferable). The cake is amazing. You are so talented I keep expecting to see you on Bake Off.

SnugglySnerd · 23/06/2020 07:26

Congratulations Love! What lovely news to wake up to.

That is such a beautiful cake Sea. You have a real talent.

ememem84 · 23/06/2020 08:01

sea echoing others - that cake!!! You are so talented!

unescorted absolutely. What do you think? White dresses and veils 😂🤣

ChristmasSeacow · 23/06/2020 10:15

Ah, wonderful news Love and happy birthday for yesterday (I was in bed early!). Was there a ring? . How long have you been together?

Unescorted I’m glad she’s going. Competition next year will be very tough so it’s a big gamble... and even if the first year is a bit of a compromise socially, I am sure they will find creative ways to ensure people can link up. The college structure will make organising some of those things more manageable, I think. And restrictions will probably ease over the year, but I don’t think it will be completely ‘gone’ in a year either. I hope she has a wonderful time. I am excited for her!

Wolf DS was ecstatic to see granny. She’s done the school run with him for the last two says as he has insisted - he’s hardly let her out of his sight. She’s going home tonight - I hope he’s okay with that!

Thanks for the cake love. I really enjoy it and it makes me feel close to my dad, as he started me off on cakes and taught me so much (not fondant modelling though - not his thing!). DD was pleased with it and its very moist and chocolatey inside, so DS is happy too Wink.

I must admit, I’d quite like to do bake off but then I see them making something crazy that I would NEVER bother with (making my own filo pastry? Er, no...) and then I think not. Also, I’m fat enough already without all that practicing!

Am attending a virtual conference today. I must admit, apart from missing a decent buffet lunch it’s rather a good experience!

ememem84 · 23/06/2020 12:25

Catface just did this.

Have removed birdy and set it free outside.

Have also made a massive fuss of her because she’s been trying to get one for ages and it’s the first time she’s brought one in to me. She’s all puffed up and purry now. Super proud of herself.

Congratulations love.

Awesome cake sea

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/06/2020 12:38

The frugaleer in me is saying can we have an autumn wedding as I need to get a dress for my brothers anyway. Two birds and all that.

I'm sure I have a floor length, off the shoulder white number somewhere that would do in a pinch. Last worn 15 years ago Grin

Unescorted · 23/06/2020 16:53

Em & Life I will defer to your better dress sense.

I am quite excited.... I am off to have a BBQ dinner with a multi gold medal winning para-olympian. He is helping with DH & DS's book launch. I will see you all later once I have scooped myself up from being a fan girl puddle on the floor.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 23/06/2020 18:27
