Happier I cooked Salmon for Mum & Bob yesterday and for the first time ever l fried the Salmon. Bob said he didn't like Salmon when l took it there for them but l said to him give it a go and he genuinely loved it, ate the lot and a piece of Mum's , so l think l will be frying it from now on , at least for Bob Smile

Unescorted · 22/04/2020 20:00

Happier it is possible ( easier in a pot than direct in the ground & also you can hide it around a corner when it is finished) ..fill your pot to the planting depth for the daffs and tulips with soil based compost. Put the bulbs fairly close together. Fill to the planting level for the bluebells and then again to the planting depth for the snow drops. Fill over the Snowdrops / bluebells. To get the planting times right you will have to plant the snowdrops and bluebells in the green (with their leaf on but after flowering) otherwise the tulips will be too early. For the first year it will look a little messy and you may not get the daffs in flower. Use an acidic(ish) compost that humic rich to keep your bluebells happy. The others tolerate a wider range of soil conditions.

wolf that is a good list.... saves me a meal plan job. thanks.

Sea, Em, Girlie you have lovely gardens... My green bin gets emptied tomorrow so I will be back in the world of weeding & soil improving....

sea if all they could say was that it was too long then it was a good paper.... boards always need to have something to say it is not perfect. it makes them feel as if they are in control / important. I deliberately leave an obvious tweak for them to pick up on. It diverts attention from the gaping policy holes.....

Love - work fear is terrible isn't it, I used to work term time only and going back in September was awful, I used to go into work a day or two before to try and come to terms with it.

Born - how lucky you are to live so close to such a lovely park, especially right now.

Give - Blush at the drunk facebooking, I've got a friend who did similar on Instagram and as mortifying as it was she did laugh afterwards.

Mrs. - handy getting the £25 back from Admiral, and a lovely gesture to donate to charity, my Nain is Welsh - she lives in Ceredigion and it's the place I'd choose to live over anywhere in the world, the children are not so keen mind Daffodil

Girlie & Sea flowers are beautiful, I love the Red Robin and wisteria is my favourite, currently my garden is just top soil, it's recent been levelled out and is awaiting a stone patio, I can't wait to get some borders in, although it'll take years before it's looking as established as some of the gardens on here. I've managed to save a little magnolia tree that I paid £15 for about three years ago and it seems like it grows about an inch a year!

Wolf & happier thanks for the meal inspiration, I've taken screen shots to give me some ideas when meal planning.

I was back in work again today, it was ok and the day went fairly quickly, went to asda afterwards without a list and no planning - bad move! I picked up fruit and veg and a chicken for Sunday, then I got some cut price Easter chocolate and loads of yellow sticker stuff for 30p each, pizzas, curries, and fresh salmon! Got a bit carried away and only had a small trolley so ended up without much in the way of dinners! Spent £67 so I've still got a bit to play with, plus Friday is payday.

My delivery from Thought clothing arrived today(pic below) I placed it on the 11th so it's taken a while, the stuff is gorgeous, there was a huge sale plus an extra 20% off so I paid £107 for a dress, 2 jumpsuits, a skirt and a pair of trousers, should be most of my summer wardrobe as long as it fits!

BINGO!! Today I made banana bread 😜

Mrsmadevans · 22/04/2020 23:12

Cam l totally agree with you , my DD1 went to Aberystwyth Uni and we fell in love with the area it's breathtaking. On another note have you been to Abergynolwen , It is so beautiful there.
YAY Born you have joined the club! Grin
Give they are so good to the children there, nothing is too much trouble, amazing place Smile. I didn't realise you had Autism, my DD1 has it but is not too badly affected thankfully , l know there is a huge discrepancy in the spectrum. She has her moments of depression and anxiety . I try to keep her on an even keel bless her. She has terrible whims lol . The new one is BTS the Korean boy group, l can't bear their music Grin. We realised far too late really , we thought she was just quiet and because my Dh was quiet too we just thought she followed him . She is fine though Smile
Better get to bed , have a good sleep everyone Smile

ChristmasSeacow · 22/04/2020 23:26

I’ve just put the bread maker on on timer for tomorrow morning . I’ll have to try a bit just for the record, but only a wee bit Wink

Thanks for the meal ideas, especially the stupendous lists Wolf! I’ll have a proper look over the next few days as I compile my list of favourites and new options. Give I reckon a 6-week rotation is very impressive. Ours is probably roughly every 3 weeks that stuff is repeated, though not a strict rotation. I do try new recipes quite often but only a small proportion ‘stick’. DH is quite hard to please too, there’s lots of stuff he doesn’t like. Including anything meat-free 🙄

Bed. Need to be up early for Sainsburys tomorrow in nhs hour. I need ALL THE FRUIT and veg /chicken too. And maybe some more compost.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 23/04/2020 06:42

Morning all.
I'm going to work today, I'm both looking forward to it and nervous at the same time!
But it will be good to see some of my colleagues and to interact with some children.
I have my lunch ready, I just need to get into gear now!

Have a good day everyone.

northender · 23/04/2020 07:05

Morning all.
Curvy good luck at work. I'm finding it okay & makes a welcome change from home. It means I haven't had as much time for being on here, as when I get home everyone seems to need to tell me everything about their days as they haven't had anyone else to tell! Dh and I have been going out for a walk after tea, so once that's done it's a bit of reading or tv and then bed. I've got a long weekend next weekend, so looking forward to that even though it'll be home based.
My first sourdough loaf is going in the oven in a minute, moderate excitement here! It doesn't look particularly well risen, but we'll see.
I finished 2 cushion covers at the weekend. They are the ones I started at a quilting workshop in November. I've now got two quilt projects on the go.
Will read back properly later

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/04/2020 07:14

How's the bread?

I'm going to attempt brioche buns in a bit. Or maybe just White for burgers later.

Awesome list wolf thanks. I have loads of recipe books but little inspiration as DD is do fussy and won't try new stuff.

Good luck with work today.

I agree, if all they said was it's too long they liked the paper. Well done

ChristmasSeacow · 23/04/2020 07:27

Queuing for Sainsburys. Got here nice and early and then realised I’d forgotten my handbag - doh! Did the round trip home but the queue isn’t too bad, better than last time I came out 2 weeks ago.

I think this will be expensive. I am spending a fortune on food! I think it’s a lot to do with there being no offers, not just direct increases... I spend a lot on bogofs etc. I think those days will be very slow to return.

ememem84 · 23/04/2020 07:40

Nsd yesterday. Dh went into work and picked up a laptop. My work had issues logging in so I didn’t get started until lunchtime. Then slacked off for the afternoon and basically did 3 hours work.

Managed to make millionair shortbread though....caramel didn’t set so it’s living in the freezer. Tastes amazing though. Just need to work on quantity and thickness of caramel.

SnugglySnerd · 23/04/2020 11:03

That's funny Sea I almost did the exact same thing. Got in the car then realised I hadn't picked up my bank card. I only went to the little Sainsbury's local to get milk, eggs, cheese and fruit. With what we have in cupboards and the freezer that should keep us going for another week then I'll do a proper supermarket trip.
I also got some groceries for my mum and I'm taking them to her later. I am ridiculously excited about having a conversation with her through the window!!

Happierwithouthim · 23/04/2020 12:53

Gosh we're all having bank card trouble today - bank just rang me they received my letter to close joint account. Bank official inadvertedly deleted my internet banking account and cancelled bank card for my personal account. Luckily I've my kbc credit card set up as apple pay on my phone and I'd planned on changing it to my ptsb card, and it couldn't be done offline and that's only reason I haven't done it!

Need to do a top up shop for fruit but nothing else really. Maybe some chicken fillets, dc are with me all weekend but freezer is still full so we don't need a shop.

Happierwithouthim · 23/04/2020 12:55

I forgot to say I killed my sourdough starter preheating the oven Blush @Unescorted so going to start again with strong flour as it was only plain flour I was using so it wasn't great.

Thanks also for gardening advice

Happierwithouthim · 23/04/2020 12:56

Meatballs were lush - total cost probably €1 per portion too

Happierwithouthim · 23/04/2020 12:57

spends so far today €1.90 posting birthday cards

Unescorted · 23/04/2020 13:36

Happier always save a bit to become the next one…. and it only ever goes in the oven when it is in a loaf of bread. I am wearing the face that says I can't quite picture how you have managed to kill it in an oven.... Grin

Happierwithouthim · 23/04/2020 14:33

It was in the oven as the oven was warmer than kitchen and the rest of the kitchen was busy, forgot about it the following day and turn oven(which is always empty) on to preheat!! BlushAngry

SnugglySnerd · 23/04/2020 15:55

Had a lovely chat with my mum from opposite ends of her garden! So nice to see her after all this time.

Since I got home we have been in the garden repotting our seedlings. We now have 2 filthy children to try and get clean!

Couple of walks here, dropped a card off for a friend birthday tomorrow. Had a nice chat across their front garden.

Fucking on line gaming is driving me up the wall.

DS struggling today with missing people.

Oh no happier that's a shame about the dough.

Doesn't matter as long as they are happy sea. Muck cleans off

Good to hear the pox is clearing up. My windows are annoying me as I did a half ass job and now they are streaky.

Mm caramel shortbread. Days like that as long as urgent stuff is done, meh. Bet you've paid it back multiple times

Wolfcub · 23/04/2020 19:18

Life I sympathise. Ds doing my head in. He's made fuck all effort at school for the third day in a row (actually two weeks id you count the week before Easter). Got downstairs at 12 went back to bed at 1.30. Threw most of his dinner in the bin and refuses to go to scouts. I am getting to the end of my tether

Give very interesting to get your perspective on having ASD. My DS (7) has it too but had quite significant challenges with it, especially communication (very limited speech). He’s really finding this lockdown incredibly hard as he hates the loss of routine and misses school (and my mum) horribly.

£90 in Sainsbury’s on half a week’s food Shock BUT I did stock up on a few things I like from there - a huge washing powder thingy, 3 packs of nappies and some spices. And I bought Ribena for DH as he loves it and I won’t normally buy it (too much sugar). And I bought a posh chicken for £11. And loads of Naice berries. Still.

Now, the bread maker bread wasn’t 100% perfect. I’d have liked it cooked a little longer but on the Wholemeal bread setting you don’t have the option of choosing ‘brownness’ so there’s just a set cooking time. Also there was a little ‘pocket’ of unmixed flour in the final product. But overall I am impressed. I used a quality flour (an Ocado substitution, fancier than I would normally buy) and it was pretty tasty. What’s the best way to store it? I have vague memories of hearing that cloth bags are good?

Very intense day of conference calls today, I am wiped out! Freezer dinner tonight - spag Bol - and then day off tomorrow with the kids and some proper cooking.

Oh, almost forgot to confess: i spent £177 on clothes from Uniqlo as they’ve brought out a new Marimekko range and I love the Scandinavian designs. I probably won’t keep it all as not sure about sizing. But I hope some of it fits!

Wolfcub · 23/04/2020 19:41

Sea I store my breadmaker bread in the lock lock box. You'll find the paddle gets looser as you use it so I that should fix unmixed bits
