Curls I got my dc the chicken pox vaccine for the same reason. I could never forgive myself if something happened when I could have prevented it. Saying that the reason they aren't doing a catch up for HPV is because they think that due to the high uptake of girls in previous years that should by sufficient. I don't know enough about it to advise though.

Welcome rh

Em I would get it.

Girliefriendlikescake · 03/10/2019 13:19

Ouch happier! Have you got any Vaseline or sudocrem? Both are good for burns. Otherwise yes leave the dressing off, hands are such an awkward place to have a dressing on anyway!

I will get my flu jab at work but need to book dd in for hers. I had mixed feelings about the hpv vaccine, it's the only one I've had doubts over, much of the evidence shows it's only effective for 5-8 years and most people already carry hpv on them somewhere and it causes them no bother. I've said to dd if she wants it she can have it next year.

I've made a start on the house, my bedroom is done, upstairs is hoovered, downstairs is straight. Still need to do the bathroom and downstairs loo (my least favourite jobs.)

ChristmasSeacow · 03/10/2019 14:20

I had the flu jab when DD was a baby - I just couldn’t face the thought of flu with a newborn! Or worse, the newborn having flu... And as she couldn’t be vaccinated it made sense for the rest of us to have immunity.

That looks painful Happier - is it better after letting the air at it?

I’ve made 14 cheese scones and ate two while they were still warm 🐷. The rest are for lunches during this weekend away for my friend and I and the DDs. I’m also going to make some veggie scotch eggs and peanut butter cookies. We will defo have too much food Wink. Thanks for the dinner ideas, I think a frittata will be great so I’m doing that. I’ll pre-roast the sweet potato so I can throw it together quickly.

I’m so tired these days - I must try to get an early night, they never happen to me!

Happierwithouthim · 03/10/2019 14:25

I've got both girlie it's definitely a bit better for having the air at it but the piece in the y of my hand between thumb and forefinger will take a long time to heal, because of the movement there.

Ooh cheese scones, hadn't them in a long long long time, sounds delicious. I know you won't have it there but I'm itching to try Clonakilty's vegetarian pudding, lots of promotion of it at the moment as it's new.

ememem84 · 03/10/2019 17:36

Will speak to my gp next time I’m there (in 2 weeks for dds next round of vaccinations) to book ds in and me. Hopefully she can do Us both in the same appointment.

Ds’ nursery won’t give the jab - a lot of schools and nurseries here get the kids vaccinated in nursery (with parents consent) but ours doesn’t. They take the view that it’s a medical procedure which should be done in a medical setting. In case of side effects etc.

Happierwithouthim · 03/10/2019 18:34

Better I guess in case children are afraid that it doesn't happen in their happy nursery either Wink

€10.55 on chicken fillets, eggs, pringles & centra own brand kitkats - movie evening for Lorenzo Grin

Dinners eaten - ds in pjs everyone happy I'm covered with a blanket, I might doze off Grin

maddenlightfoot · 03/10/2019 19:12

Whoops - £26 on Santa's grotto 🎅!! But, much, much cheaper than many of the convoluted grotto trips I've been researching and managed to bag our preferred day and time.

We wouldn't usually bother but I have my mum and dad visiting on the weekend before Christmas and I know it's something they'd love to do with the girls.

Just another unbudgeted expense to add to the list! How many days into October are we??!!

MeadowHay · 03/10/2019 22:07

I want to get the flu vaccine actually. Need to sort something. I got it last year, my DM encouraged me and paid for it lol. Like Seacow it's just because of having a little one it would be awful to get flu. And also to take the time off work would be grim as well. DH had his earlier this week on the NHS through his placement that he's on atm. We've been thinking about vaccinating DD from chicken pox but can't decide if it's worth it or not as they don't tend to get too poorly when little right? And then it's good for them to have it younger in that case, dunno how long the vaccine works for?

I didn't have HPV vax think I was the first year they introduced it to schools. My parents wouldn't give consent, a bit conspiracy theorist maybe, worried about side effects...I wanted to get it when I was older but by the time I looked into it I was too old.

Spent £2.95 on a fancy coffee at lunchtime but was freezing and had a very busy, tiring week so felt I deserved the treat. And then about £3.50 in the little supermarket by work on snacks for my lunches at work - apples and crisps, and a bar of choc that DH and I shared this evening. + £2.30 bus fare to work.

ememem84 · 04/10/2019 03:44

Neither of my littlies have had chickenpox. I haven’t vaccinated then either. Not sure whether to or not.

I’m awake with dd. Milky time!!

Have been bitten by mosquito! So. Itchy!!!!

LivingInLaputa · 04/10/2019 05:46

Welcome rhi :) food budgeting is my worst thing.

Awake with a start as Cagletini was in bed with me and fell out 😳 I need to put jammies on her, she refused earlier 🙄 but now said she is cold!

Happier ouch your hand 😱😭 so frustrating when movement keeps aggravating things like that :(

I’ve never considered the CP vaccine but I should get the flu jab really.

Still not frugal here, we are just treading water really. Been a screw up or two with ESA etc so stressful times.

Have made progress with DD1’s return to school though, chosen somewhere and can now apply as there are apparently spaces, spoke to an EHCP specialist yesterday about the whole process and feel reassured that it’s better to get the school to do it as she’s so close to starting anyway. Can’t deny it’s a relief to get out of it as I was dreading the process (she does recommend we try for DS ourselves but that can wait until DD1 is settled)

CamdenTownie · 04/10/2019 06:02

Friday at last!!

Ds2 has never had chicken pox, he's almost 17, he was around ds1 when he had and again when both dds had it, when he was about six practically his whole class had it, but he managed to dodge it!

Dh was the same but he eventually got it in his late 20's - it was awful and he was really ill. I've been saying I'll get ds2 the vaccine for years but never got around to it. Thinking maybe I should get it done soon as it's usually spring when it hits and that when we are going on our big holiday!

WreckTangled · 04/10/2019 06:46

I've always remembered a thread I read on here. There was a lady who couldn't rouse her baby and in the end everyone persuaded her to call an ambulance. Once he was admitted they found fluid on the brain and after lots of searching they found one chicken pox on his foot. He ended up permanently brain damaged and I think was learning to try and move again but not sure how successful it was. In all other developed countries they vaccinate. They talked about it here but because it would have to be given at the same time as the mmr, and numbers are already too low, the didn't want to add another one. They also wanted to roll out the shingles vaccine which they've been doing for about 8 years now. I think it'll be on the vaccine schedule eventually.

Bornlazy · 04/10/2019 08:17

Morning everyone it’s really cold here today. I hate the change in seasons as I never know what to wear. Heating is definitely on.

One week down of five week month but when I was looking at calendar I had a pleasant surprise as DH actually gets paid three weeks today so I’m hoping I’ll get through month without having to dip into the money I’ve put aside for Christmas. I actually have five birthdays this month not four so that will be spendy.

Happier ouch that looks sore. Hope it heals up soon. Poor dd Sea my nephew burnt his hand on the iron when he was that age and he never went near one again so hopefully she will be the same with the hob. Actually wondering if I have had a similar accident in the past as I certainly have an aversion to irons 😜

em and life hope your/your ds’s birthday were good.

Welcome to the new people.

WreckTangled · 04/10/2019 08:39

We had a frost yesterday but it's warmer today.

I have to go to harvest festival (dd is singing) and then food shopping. Going to go to Lidl for a change.

northender · 04/10/2019 09:26

Missed a couple of days, so have skim read back.
Accidental welcome. I love frittata, the goats cheese & sweet potato combo sounds good.
rhi welcome too. The budget book sounds like a great start. Meal planning & getting creative with leftovers makes a real difference in terms of grocery budget.
happier that looks sore, hope it heals quickly & your dd too seacow
life cake looks good. Dd always asks for carrot cake & for her birthday I buy sugar carrots to go on the top!
born know what you mean about the weather. Here in the NW the rain seems relentless. I've given in & put the heating on this morning.

Meal planning has gone well this week. Dh did a small top up aldi shop yesterday, not sure how much, but the only frivolous item was a bottle of red which was very welcome last night. My parents are taking us all out for dinner tomorrow night as a thank you for all we did in organising mum's 80th & their golden wedding, so that will be lovely. Have done 3 gym classes this week, getting value out of my membership. I contacted Debenhams about an incorrect refund. They have agreed to pay out and a bit extra too, so that was worth doing.

ememem84 · 04/10/2019 09:55

I’m going to mention chip vaccine to dr next time I go I think. Ds hasn’t managed to dodge it three times now (benefits I suppose of being in nursery only 3 days a week.

So far a relatively stress free day. Up with dd at 7. Ds woke up at 730 (went to bed at 730 last night absolutely knackered from a busy nursery week and didn’t sleep until 9...lay in bed crying...)

Have had a shower and washed my hair - Dd slept in her bed and ds sat on the toilet and read his books while I showered; have done laundry - it’s dry (so far) cold and windy as hell here do laundry is outside. Have done catfaces flea treatment, unwrapped all the bouquets of Flowers I was given and have had breakfast.

Swimming in an hour with ds.

MeadowHay · 04/10/2019 13:04

DD still poorly, looks like she has roseola. Fever gone and horrid rash arrived. All she will do is lay on me in front of the telly with dummy in her mouth or scream the place down...6 hours til bedtime...which I feel guilty about because it is awful seeing her feeling so unwell but it is bloody tiring and stressful for me too. Debating having a walk to the park but not sure it's worth it as would just have to walk around and then come back again and I'm shattered...maybe later if she is just screaming all the time again.

I didnt know small children could get that sick from chicken pox, I thought it didn't affect little ones too badly. The country where my DF is from (middle east/) vaccinanate against it too. Will talk to DH about DD and decide.

Spent about £15 in supermarket on groceries and then a spendy £95ish on clothes in Debenhams sale. A load of cheap clothes for work that I really needed, and a pack of undies and then one pair of joggers for DD. 10 items for £95, not bad eh?! Think that's frugal despite the spend.

Wolfcub · 04/10/2019 13:26

Meadow sorry to hear dd is poorly. Some fresh air and a walk round the park might help brighten you both

£50 withdrawn = £5 scout camp, £5 farm shop stuff £13 club fees for the month and the rest as I have none in my wallet

Flu jab booked

Thatsnotmyflamingo · 04/10/2019 15:42

Get well soon @MeadowHay's DD Thanks.
Spends yesterday:
£6 on socks for DS and slippers for DD, she has been asking for slippers when she sees me put mine on so she will be thrilled to have her own.

Girliefriendlikescake · 04/10/2019 18:26

Had a nice spa day here, cost £70 though that I couldn't really afford 😕 it was for a best friends 40th, so couldn't really not go. It was a nice day though and it included a massage and lunch.

Glad it's Friday, looking forward to a frugal weekend!

Sick babies are hard work meadow hope dd perks up soon.

Happierwithouthim · 04/10/2019 18:57

Lunch was €8.40 cakes were on me today
Went grocery shopping it came to €86.90 & I'd one €10 off €50, kind cashier had spares so suggested I spend up to €100 so I picked up 3 bottles of fairy liquid & 60 fairy capsules & total was reduced to €82.90 Grin

Will catch up over dinner with everyone else's posts

I stuck to my grocery list & will go to Lidl on Sunday eve for Cajun chicken slices & strawberries for ds's lunch approx €10

LivingInLaputa · 04/10/2019 20:56

Oh no, so sorry meadow that sounds really stressful :(

Glad you had a nice day girlie but ouch that is a lot to spend for someone else’s birthday activity :(

northender · 04/10/2019 21:04

My only spends today were 75p at the library when collecting a book I'd ordered for my book group. Also £8 in aldi, top up shop. Made lentil & veg soup for lunch & then HM pizzas with HM coleslaw for tea. Feeling really motivated at the moment.

Have had quite an emotionally stressful week as ds has had his first appointment with the local chronic fatigue service. He went on his own as I feel he needs to work through it himself. He found it positive but quite emotional & consequently so did I! It has been such a tough couple of years, but hopefully better days ahead. He has spoken to a couple of his college tutors today & they have been very supportive. He is being given rest breaks in exams if he needs them & possibly some extra time in exams too.

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/10/2019 07:19

That's very stressful meadow. Did you get a walk out? Everything else will wait if you have to just sit with DD.

Morning all. I’m up with ds. Because he was up and full of beans at 6 I let him have chocolate hazelnut spread (not Nutella Morrison’s one which is much nicer and cheaper!) on toast. Picking battles and all that.

We were supposed to go for dinner tonight. But dh left it too late to book. So now we’re not. It was meant to be a birthday date night. I knew I should have booked it myself earlier in the week.
