I haven’t got anything for family back home yet (they all live in Ireland), am hoping to convince most of them not to buy for me and I won’t buy for them as I have had to clear out two transit van loads of stuff to even fit into the new rental house and am paying out for storage for DP stuff he won’t chuck Hmm
Am irrationally annoyed with DP today as after weeks of him going on about what I wanted for Christmas and asking me etc, I had finally said what I wanted and made it clear which colour/type etc. Think eg “Thanks DP I would like this red, fluffy dressing gown - there is an expensive branded one but would be just as happy with this one from TK Max, which is red and fluffy and plain”.
Cue photos from him for days of mad patterned/embellished versions, me saying nope just that plain one, then today he said oh I have got you something else because I just couldn’t choose from all the types. I said oh, okay, but I did say I wanted a plain red one. And now I am just really annoyed. But I know this is very much a first world problem!!

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/11/2019 18:40

I hate that plan. Just buy what was said fgs.
£84 Aldi, £59 Sainsbury's, £11 £ shop, £ can't remember in Iceland

I have a code for £10 off a £30 spend at Boden and a 20% off code for m&s thought I'd check if anyone wanted it here before putting them on the Christmas bargains thread.

Spent my double up points in Sainsbury's today on Prosecco and red wine for Christmas Wine

ChristmasSeacow · 16/11/2019 22:03

Hi Born, I’d like the Boden code if it’s still going!

Watching Strictly on catch up. DH is out. Busy day taking DD to ballet and a party. She’s knackered but it was a good day! Bathroom more than halfway there, they should finish on Tuesday Shock

I know how you feel Plan, I am usually very prescriptive with DH after a few years of jewellery I wouldn’t wear. This year though DH and I aren’t going to get each other much for Christmas. Just bathrooms Wink

WreckTangled · 16/11/2019 22:06

Plan that's so annoying! Dh never gets me anything but that's because we can't afford it really.

Mynameisnotthis · 16/11/2019 22:17

Hello 👋🏻
Please may I join in? I’ve lurked a while and read this thread.
I’m on mat leave with baby DS. He’s our second.
I’m constantly thinking about money...we’re paying a suite on credit and some work done on our house to prepare for baby which is on a credit card in my name. DH has some debt issues...less said the better but it nearly ended our marriage!
Anyway I love a bargain - I unfortunately that means I buy too much for the kids cos I’m getting a good deal. So I’m trying to work on that.

Mynameisnotthis · 16/11/2019 22:20

Also, Christmas I noticed the wooden birthday cake in Aldi today. It’s cute! I may go back and get it for me DD (case in point re previous post Smile)
I could post you one if that’s not too strange an offer from a newbie?

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 16/11/2019 22:51

It's flipping freezing here tonight, there's been some snow flurries near by! I'm in bed with a hot choc, hot water bottle and two blankets 🥶

Been out to a wedding reception earlier, was a nice do but didn't really know anyone there (other than bride and groom obviously 😉) we didn't stay long.

Popped to town earlier, spends
£7 on coffee and cake for myself and my friend.
£5 lunch for dd in Greggs
£6 in card warehouse
£2.20 parking

Think that was it.

ChristmasSeacow · 17/11/2019 00:03

Welcome MyName . I’m exactly the same with a bargain.... and sometimes it’s pricey stuff on sale - relatively cheap but not Actually cheap, iyswim. I’m really making progress with decluttering though and it’s helping me think twice about buying stuff.

That said, it’s a very kind offer re. Aldi cake! (And not at all inappropriate from a newbie Smile). However, it came in stock online so I managed to get hold of it - and also a couple as gifts for friends’ children (one was for the birthday girl today). I’m told they have gone down a storm so defo a great buy! But I’m meant to be encouraging you not to spend ConfusedGrin.

I was intending to have an early night but am enjoying DH being out too much Grin. Had wine, pizza and Toblerone naice fruit. Feeling a big bad as one of our friends is coming back with DH to kip for the night in the spare room and it is full of crap that has been decanted from our bedroom, so it is a tip... and now the neighbours seem to be having a party. Don’t think he’ll be asking to come back in a hurry!

I’m in bed but there is a definite dusty haze in our bedroom. Am sooooo looking forward to the deep clean that’s coming up once they’re done with the bathroom!

Bornlazy · 17/11/2019 05:38

Sea have sent you code.
Off to work soon so should be nsd

SnugglySnerd · 17/11/2019 06:57

I bought that wooden cake yesterday! Haven't decided yet whether it's a Christmas or a birthday present for one of the dts. Dd was playing with a similar one at a stay and play we go to and she loved it.

Welcome myname. I love buying things for the dcs too. Not usually toys as we have too much stuff in our house but clothes and craft stuff mainly!

ememem84 · 17/11/2019 07:19

I realised I’d dropped off the thread. No reason. Just no time!

Riding yesterday £32 and coffee and breakfast for dh at community centre cafe £9.50 (two coffees a breakfast a muffin and an apple juice). Ds loves going there. We went for a walk early and had a snack before I went riding.

£75 pet shop on a cat flap. Catface will soon have her own special door. Which we’ll have to teach her to use.

SnugglySnerd · 17/11/2019 08:41

That reminds me of Mog Em, "it was her own special door". Only she always forgot to use it!

northender · 17/11/2019 08:52

Morning All. Welcome to Myname you'll get lots of encouragement here.
Spent yesterday in Ambleside with dd which was good. It was the Christmas lights switch on & they have a torchlight procession. We've never been to it before & it was lovely, but I do definitely need to crack on with Christmas shopping etc now. Spends were £6 car park, £20 lunch, £14 coffee & cake & I bought a new pair of walking shoes £60.

Today I'm going to be getting on with my Christmas sewing projects, tidying, cleaning & I need to meal plan for the week ahead.

Dh is going to be getting his job application done. wolf I may be in touch if he's struggling, but we've both had a read of all the Success Profile info & think we've made sense of it! The last time he did an application, it was on the old competency system.

Have a good Sunday everyone.

Mynameisnotthis · 17/11/2019 08:58

Thanks for the welcomes!

Christmas I’m glad you got the cake! I hear you on the decluttering. I’m working on that too but the other people in the house keep scuppering my plans! Grin

Snuggly I’m the same with clothes! DD has a ridiculous amount. DS has enough clothes to see him to 18m. (In size if not age - he’s a big lad Grin). It’s always in the sales tho - normally Next at half price. Then at Xmas and birthdays they get clothes gifts too. DD is going to school next year tho so I def need to buy less as she’ll have no time to wear it!

Poor DS is getting a meaner first Xmas than DD, trying to learn from being over run in years gone by. Also we’re running out of space. We ideally need a new house....new car...new baby....Blush too many plans and not enough funds!

No set plans for today. Itching for a Primark trio. Ahhh I’m beyond help.

Plancina · 17/11/2019 10:40

Welcome myname

Plans for today include: meal planning for the week, walk outside, 2-3 hours of marking and prep for Monday (me), food shop in Aldi (DP).
Need to make a list of Christmas movies to watch to make me feel Christmassy - ideas welcome Grin

Wolfcub · 17/11/2019 10:50

I also need to do some meal planning. There is not much money left for the month after Xmas present buying and ds has decided he wants to try vegetarian again - that's actually helpful as I have plenty pulses and things I juts need to think about what I can make that isn't veggie curry or risotto or pasta with the ingredients I have.
Need to take advantage of the fact ds is out for a while to work through some more legal paperwork and pack to go away with work again tomorrow

SnugglySnerd · 17/11/2019 10:53

I'm lucky really that we saved dd1's clothes for dd2 and a kind friend passes a lot of boy clothes our way for ds. They seem to have a lot though!

I've just sorted out a big bag of mostly my own stuff for the charity shop. Persuaded dh to part with a couple of things too and suddenly there is anlot more space in our wardrobe!

Really enjoying the birds in our garden this morning. So far I've seen 3 nuthatches, a robin, countless blue/great/coal tits, sparrows, blackbirds, a wren and a jay. There's also a massive wood pigeon waddling around under the bird feeder hoovering up all the dropped bits. You wouldn't expect to see so much in an urban garden!

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/11/2019 12:23

Does anyone want the Christmas good housekeeping magazine. I dare not offer on the Christmas thread for fear of being hamstrung for heresy but it's just not my thing.
Happy to post on though if someone else wants a read

Hi all.

Been ill and super busy with work, writing progress reports, setting next steps and our room leader left on Friday to go on maternity leave, so we did her a surprise leaving party, she was very touched.

Belated birthday wishes north Cake
Sea, your poor ds, the dance teacher should have spoken to you, to see how she could help him feel part of the group.
Welcome myname

Spendy weekend
Shopping £90
Pizza hut £20.48
Primark £65
Sports direct £15

Wolfcub · 17/11/2019 13:29

It's official. I hate divorce paperwork. H has also increased his "request" for money/assets which is infuriating

I have filled in as much additional info as I can. Argued with h. Instructed him on the paperwork he needs to find. Made requests for three house valuations. Made a list of paperwork I need to accrue over the next week.

To recover I've job-marie'd my reuseable shopping bags because they are pisisng me off and declittered the annoying corner of the kitchen

Life I wouldn't mind a look at the magazine and would be happy to send on to another frugaleer after

Plancina · 17/11/2019 14:17

Meal plan...
Tonight - left over chicken, veggies (red cabbage, roasted beets and carrot) and spuds from having friends over last night.
Mon - veggie and tofu stir fry with noodles
Tues - halloumi and roasted parsnip salad on lentils
Weds- fishcakes from freezer (leftover homemade ones from Jack Monroe book) and veg
Thursday - Vegeree (veggie kedgeree from Rivercottage book)
Friday - having mum and little bro over and he only eats a very limited range of foods as autistic so probably pesto pasta with salad for adults!

Snacks for work: boiled eggs, chopped veggies and homemade hummus, fruit.

Off to Aldi soon!

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 17/11/2019 15:28

Wolf, do you think H will get anything?
I'm so sorry he is being like this Flowers

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/11/2019 16:22

Pm me your details wolf and I will post it off. Why is H being an arse again. He deserves the minimum

Wolf that all sounds so stressful. I hope the legalities are resolved asap.
