For my northern buddies select adult and child single tickets in northern rail for 5p per ticket. Limited availability but I’ve got there and back tickets for ds and I to go to Manchester for a grand total of 30 pence

Peppinana · 19/08/2019 20:20

Thanks for the new thread and thanks for all the welcomes on the previous one. My relatives have just left after the weekend so will catch up on the thread and post my spends tomorrow. Hope all is well with everyone.

WreckTangled · 19/08/2019 20:27

Hi littlechocola

I just had an M&S meatzza. It was amazing.

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/08/2019 21:19

I will look at both those thanks. DD is denying this is ever going to happen. I got her a hygiene bag for school today . It's imminent

££ Primark, £12 superdrug, £6.40 Sainsbury's

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/08/2019 21:21

Fucking hell wolf. Scary stuff with water bottle. Top bargains on the train. Someone unreliable at work said cross country are going to start charging for collect at station tickets. It's currently unverified.

Nice dresser.

WreckTangled · 19/08/2019 21:31

I was going to get period pants for dd too. I would be surprised if she makes it out of primary school without starting which could be an issue as they have a pool at school and swim often.

Girliefriendlikescake · 19/08/2019 22:53

That website looks fab, I think I might get some for dd as well.

Busy busy day here, I'm knackered! Praying puppy doesn't wake me up too early...

Spent £7 in Tescos on lunch for dd and I and £3 in Lidl's on a couple of bits.

ChristmasSeacow · 19/08/2019 23:51

Camden we might live on the same tube line...

I’ve been thinking about period pants. Are they much more leakproof than pads, even ones with wings? I don’t think dh will be thrilled at the thought of me sticking them in the wash though. Do you do a separate wash? ‘Scuse my ignorance.

Survived the first day back at work... phew!

LivingInLaputa · 20/08/2019 00:35

Yikes that’s scary wolf

Thanks will definitely look at cheeky wipes - I do want some actual wipes too, for Cagletini.

Although she is trying to reject nappies altogether and is loving removing hers. That kid is all about the naked. And yes there was a poo on the floor incident today. FFS. TBH though we are home most of the time at the moment so we are going to get a potty and see what happens.

Still in flare up, knees and arms are fucked! Been doing some gentle decluttering though, went through all the big Caglets’ clothes and despite getting rid of loads I think we don’t actually need to buy a vast amount really, trousers and jammies for both, and will need to persuade DD1 to shop for new bras, which she is not happy about. But I have zero energy to order, try on at home, return, repeat. Just no.

Sea - I get on at the very end and get off a few stops short of the other end! I was glad that the tube was held 'overground' so I could use my 4g.

The period pants really are very absorbent, I've already got a pack put away for dd2 ready for when the time comes. We use pads with them too, but I give them a rinse before putting them in the washing machine.

No news here, just another work day, I'm off next week so really looking forward to that! Just hoping the Welsh weather is OK.

ChristmasSeacow · 20/08/2019 06:51

Gosh Camden that’s a long way. You’re practically a country girl then Wink. We are in zone 4, I work in the centre at the moment so my commute isn’t too bad at all but for many years I had to ‘cross town’.

I meant to say Wolf, wtf with that electric thingy?!

Work today and tomorrow then off Thursday and Friday. I’m having to use a lot of leave for childcare. Trying to think of things I can do with the Dc, hmmm.

WreckTangled · 20/08/2019 07:02

Dentist today 😭 hope I don't need anything done as I can't afford it!

SnugglySnerd · 20/08/2019 08:01

Morning all!
I also want to try period pants so this discussion is very interesting!

Lap we are at the same stage with dd2 and the nappies/potty. She has had a few successes but actually I'm waiting until dd1 is back at school so we can stay at home for a few days and have a proper go. I have dig put all dd2's old pants from the loft and washed them ready.

My thoughts are turning to Christmas. Dh wondered if Christmas shopping, especially food might be affected by Brexit so I want to crack on. We usually start shopping after the summer hols anyway but I'm going to try and get as much done as possible I think. I might even get some food prepped and frozen e.g. spiced red cabbage and stuffing as both freeze well. Am I being a bit hysterical?!

Wolfcub · 20/08/2019 08:03

Currently making my way across London. Early start but I’m hoping for a better work day than yesterday which was a nightmare. I’m off next week but the urgent stuff pile seems to keep growing and growing this week. Urgh!
Won’t be a nsd as I’ll need bread and milk and there will be some other expenses I can reclaim
Em lovely side board. My df made one very similar before I was born
I am now on day five of a bad insomnia jag. Totally whacked

Girlie how’s dd doing with dpup now?

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/08/2019 08:14

I'm in the SOS today wolf. London in September though.

No snug I don't think you are. I think there will be price increases and supply chain issues for that long. I have no info just imo.

I'm thinking on it now and have a list from reastie thread already

Taken breakfasts and tea on the train to save buying

ememem84 · 20/08/2019 09:47

I’m biting the bullet and am buying the period pants.

I took the night shift with dd last night.
She hadn’t pooped for 2 days. Guess who was lucky enough to deal with it in the middle of the night?!?! Ffs. Three nappies we went through in one change. It just kept coming!!!

CamdenTownie · 20/08/2019 12:02

Sea - I do live in the countryside, about 20 mins from the station so I have to add that to my commute, this may shock people but we can't even get a pizza delivered 🍕 😮

Last week when I was indulging my impulse buys I picked up a UV nail lamp in Lidl for £9.99 ordered a set of gel polishes including top and base coat from Amazon (£20 for 18 mini colours) and last night I gave it a go. It was surprisingly good, not as great as the salon but I can deal with that! I've got at least 40 applications there, although some of the colours aren't really to my taste.

I have a question for any dog owners too, my dog is on a grain free diet (sensitive stomach ) but has now developed an allergy to the food we've been giving him and scratches himself loads, can anyone recommend any food for Allegra that's also grain free?

WreckTangled · 20/08/2019 12:20

We can't get take aways here either and there's only a bus once a week 🙄

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 20/08/2019 12:42

Thanks for the new thread Laputa.
Hope you are all ok, having a great time in Edinburgh with dd1, seen some shows and just enjoying my time with her.

CamdenTownie · 20/08/2019 14:01

Wow wreck - once a week!!! I thought our service was bad as it stops at 6pm (5pm on a Saturday) and no buses on a weekend!

Littlechocola · 20/08/2019 17:35

Same as @WreckTangled once a week bus service and no take away. Saves us money though Grin

@LivingInLaputa I used to make wipes for dc when they were nappy stage. Just a Poundland fleece and a homemade concoction of olive oil and tea.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 20/08/2019 19:28

hi! hope it's ok to join, spending is slightly out of control here... I get bored/upset and shop. need to stop and record spending again!!

so today spent £16.50 on a present for dd1 birthday (a figure that she's desperate for and usually sells for around £30 so a bargain)

got to go to Tesco later when dh gets in from work but have a list and will stick to it!

interesting reading about period pants, had thought about them for dd1 as I'm sure it's imminent. she's moody, has belly aches and is almost the same age I was when I started periods. might get a few pairs for me when i have spare money to try out as would be handy for night anyway.

Peppinana · 20/08/2019 19:39

Quite a spendy day today, but all essential or planned. Adulted really well this morning: had the gas engineer come to service the boilers and then got the dc’s passport photos done (been on the todo list for ages).
£15 at Lidl on top up fruit and veg
£10 passport photos
£200 on accommodation and attraction tickets for the weekend.
Am trying hard to not buy any more clothes at the moment for myself. I’m between sizes (stopped breastfeeding dd three months ago) and hoped the weight would just come off like last time but hasn’t. I should wear what I have but it’s not filling me with joy. Hope everyone had a good day.

WreckTangled · 20/08/2019 19:44

£22 dentist. Didn't need anything doing hooray!
£360 onto currency card in euros. Will take a few days to process. Have also got €100 cash. Hoping that'll be enough tbh but if it isn't then can add more to the card when our there easily enough. Pil's coming too so food will be split with them.

Dd has been awful all day and ds not much better. Dh has been miserable too Hmm

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 20/08/2019 20:45

I just went to catch up on the old thread and had to come searching Grin

I'm glad other people live in places with no bus service and very limited/zero takeaways! We have no bus service at all any more so residents have set up their own to get the older folk into town every week. Pretty sad state of affairs from our council.

We managed really well last week and over the weekend with spending. DH has discovered a budgeting app with nice stats and analysis so he's really jumped on board with the frugality which has helped.
We managed to get the weekly shop down to £80 in Aldi on Sunday which included laundry bits, nappies and some lunchboxes so not too bad and we only spent £12 on coffee at soft play and coffee, cake and lunch for DS at a garden centre over the weekend.

Spends this week so far:
£2 for stay and play session with friends and kids
£3 Dh on nice coffee at work
£13 nappy bin refills (how exciting)
£13 contact lenses for the next month or so

I'm avoiding spending more by staying on the sofa with baby DD all day Grin

Oh and we've been blackberrying behind our house and checking on sloes ( for festive gin making) so some nice free fruit there too!
