Thanks Lap.
Hoping for nsd today.

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/08/2019 06:13

Thanks lap. Great title.

Have you seen there is talk of getting rid of credit crunch as a sector and merging with money?

Won't be a nsd, need to go to Primark for school stuff.

Tired today lots of bills to pay out too. Also have to see if there is enough in the bank to cover the cc.

Does anyone use period pants? Thinking of some for DD for school days when the time comes? Any recommendations?

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/08/2019 06:14

Noticed yesterday Sainsbury's have the buy 6 save 25% on wine.

SnugglySnerd · 19/08/2019 07:24

Morning all and thanks for the new thread Lap!
I was just trying to post on the old one! I need to think of something to do today. Running out of ideas that I can manage with 2 toddlers that also suit dd1. After a quiet weekend we are climbing the walls a bit.

WreckTangled · 19/08/2019 07:28

Thanks Lap.

Spendy day today as I'm getting my nails done and a wax for holiday. Not allowed long or painted nails at work so have been growing them whilst I'm off. One has broken which is annoying. Anyway this salon does 50% nhs discount on a Monday so should be £30-£40 for both.

LivingInLaputa · 19/08/2019 09:38

Life I ordered two pairs from Modibodi for DD1, she’s happy with them. Really expensive though even with discount. I’m planning to shop around a bit so we end up with a few different brands to see what works best, she will need a few as her most recent period lasted 8 days 😭
I think some use them alone and I probably would on lighter days (I’m thinking about trying some myself) but mostly with pads on top just having that extra protection for leaks, especially as you wouldn’t want to be changing the actual underwear at school etc.

I’m really miffed as I’ve struggled to get on with my menstrual cup the last couple of months. Really don’t know what changed.

Things have not been frugal here. Super stressed. Also found out that urgent referral has been done and not received yet (CMHT said phone back on Wednesday) and from the sound of it the doctor may have done that wrong too... 🤦‍♀️🤐

Happierwithouthim · 19/08/2019 10:39

Oh lap that's not good enough at all, you've enough on your plate without chasing medical help

Girliefriendlikescake · 19/08/2019 11:41

Thanks for the new thread lap

Busy few days here, was at a wedding all day Ystd. It was the wedding of a work colleague and lots of my friends from work we're there. It was a great day and everyone enjoyed themselves, it was frugal as well as my only spend was £10 in the collection pot for the bride and groom. The benefits of not drinking.

I also caught up on sleep as the puppy and dd stayed with my mum for two nights.

Back with them now, dd has the orthodontist in a minute and the puppy had his vaccinations later. I need to buy food as am out of lots of things.

WreckTangled · 19/08/2019 11:50

Lap what a nightmare Angry

£30 wax and nails. Went for yellow ☀️

CamdenTownie · 19/08/2019 12:06

Life - dd1 and I both use them but I got 3 pairs from cheeky wipes for £30ish. They are fab and I just wish I'd had them when I was a teenager, dd1 was always so anxious about leaking but now she's feeling much more confident and I'm the same, especially as I have a long commute. We both use pads too, I'm looking at buying so reusable ones as I don't like the chemicals in the disposables.

Littlechocola · 19/08/2019 12:14

Can I join please?
I posted a little on a previous thread but forgot about it!

Holiday spends haven’t been too awful. Mostly fuel and extra food.
We’ve managed cheap days out.
It means I’m in my overdraft though which I didn’t want. I think I’ll probably be minus £150 by next pay day as I need more fuel for work.

Hoping that next paycheque is a good ish one as should include overtime.

Today should be a NSD.

ememem84 · 19/08/2019 13:59

Spendy morning. It’s dhs birthday on Saturday. So I headed into town for presents.

He needs/wants new clothes. So I bought him:

Voucher for next
Voucher for m&s
A shirt
A hoody
Two polo shirts from jack wills
Two superdry jumpers (which he pointed out the other day)
And am getting him a naice bottle of wine.

Probably around £250 spent today. Eek. But it’s stuff he wouldn’t necessarily buy for himself.

Will catch up Later

maddenlightfoot · 19/08/2019 16:29

This thread title could not be more apt!! We've just come back from our holidays and spent way too much. Far, far too much eating out and not enough planning spends.

We're gearing ourselves up for a super-duper-sensible September (and hopefully beyond to Christmas). We've got two big events next year so need to save some serious money. However, although I know this I've still just spent on two completely unnecessary things whilst out shopping - a bargain dress up for dd1 (Gangsta Granny for £5 down from £17 - will put it away for Christmas and keep everything crossed that she's willing to wear it for World Book Day 😂), and a big bag for life. Only £6.50 in total but it's little spends like this which fall out of our budget that add up massively.

Lovemaltesers · 19/08/2019 16:41

Thanks for the new thread and that is very frustrating lap

£45 petrol
£49 Tesco
£2 savers

I need to go back to tracking the small spends like above to see how much we are really spending

Cancelled AA which was due to be £184. Will join the RAC as I can pay it all with Tesco club card vouchers where they are 3x the monetary value. Which i’ll take as a frugal win.

Finally called the bank to increase the amount going into our regular saver. Should have done this months ago but you can’t increase the amount online.

Started decorating the hallway so it is now a nightmare here

WreckTangled · 19/08/2019 16:44

Love check out autoaid. Recommended mse. I used them three times in one year and even when I was at home with nowhere to go I had someone out in

Taytocrisps · 19/08/2019 17:24

Thanks for the new thread Laputa

We enjoyed 'The Lion King' last night but I've decided to cut down on cinema trips going forward. It was €30.25 for the cinema (€16.50 for me and €13.75 for DD). Add in €14 for McDonalds (two medium meals) and a few euros for sweets from the newsagents and we spent the best part of €50! That's just for two of us - I can only imagine how much extra it would have cost if I had three or four kids.
So I think it's going to be something we reserve for the holidays going forward i.e. once during the Christmas holidays, once during the Easter holidays and once during the summer holidays. We could rent a recent release to watch on TV using Ex's account for €5 and just have a chocolate bar bought as part of the weekly grocery shop.

I got a Tesco delivery today for €122.79 plus €5 delivery charge. I'm owed about €10 back as they offered me a substitution but I didn't accept it. I've started doing a big monthly shop from Tesco where I stock up on non-perishables. Then I do a small weekly top up in Lidl/Centra the other weeks. It means I'm just paying one delivery charge per month.

DD has some friends in and they're playing board games. I'll give them another 10 minutes and then I'll go in and start preparing dinner. They're in the dining room and we've an open plan dining room/kitchen.

madden I agree about the little spends. I guess there's a lot of sense to that saying 'Take care of the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves'.

ememem84 · 19/08/2019 17:56

I’ll admit I read the thread title and wondered what “seeg” meant. Then realised it’s pronounced Segway....

I’m intrigued by period pants too. I’m debating a mooncup too. But not buying anything until I know what periods are like post Dd.

I think we’re going for lunch tomorrow with mil. I might take ds there on the bus. He hasn’t been on a bus before.

She took him out to the park this morning (just down the road from us so they walked). They also stopped for coffee and cake at the community centre and ran about on the village green. They got back just after I did from town this morning. Mil looked knackered!

This afternoon dh mil and ds went to local charity shop to look for a cabinet for our living room. Dh bought this one for £60. He needs to get a van to get it here but can hire one for a couple of hours for £20. So he’ll do this on weds.

This afternoon I’ve sorted through my T-shirt drawer. Sorted another bag for charity. And have taken pics of everything I have in wardrobe. And just need to upload to stylebook and then I can start experimenting with outfits.

I’ve also had a frugal win. I was looking pissing about on eBay and saw someone was selling a mulberry bag for £50 or best offer. I offered £42. And it was accepted. The person then raised a case with eBay (after I paid) because they’d meant to put a reserve price on it. eBay have sided with me. So I’ve got an absolute bargain. The bag in question (if genuine) would have retailed for £800. And even if it’s not a genuine one it’s listed as real leather and for the size of it I’d look to spend around £40 on a it if it was a high street one... win win.

We’ve had to increase the amount of formula Dd is having. She’s hungry a lot. I’m not sure whether she’s going through a growth spurt or what but I’m sick of making. Bottles every couple of hours. Hopefully more formula will mean less frequent bottles.

ememem84 · 19/08/2019 17:57

Crap. No pic attached. Dh bought this.

Thanks Lap. I was wondering why the other thread had gone quiet Blush

So my electric hot water bottle arrived. It immediately set on fire and after a bit of back and forth I have a refund. Honestly I bought the damn thing to avoid burning myself not to burn the damn house down!

WreckTangled · 19/08/2019 18:15

Oh no wolf!

CamdenTownie · 19/08/2019 18:56

Hey everyone 👋

I was delayed by 40 minutes on my way into work this morning due to a trespasser on the tracks further down the line, I thought this was a sign that Monday was going to be rubbish but it's been ok 👌

Whilst I was sitting on the tube waiting I Ordered ds2 some tracksuit bottoms x2 pairs for £51.97 but he's paying me back Hmm

My plan was to pop across to Lidl and get some bananas but as I was so late I had to go into Waitrose instead- but only spent £2 in there. Also didn't give into the temptation of going out at lunch to buy a drink and probably other junk!

I've been thinking about Christmas 🎄 and kind of realised that I'd got into the habit of buying both dds the same gifts, so if one wants something I just buy it for the other too, even if it may not be something she particularly wants. A waste of money so I'm going to try my hardest not to do that from now on!

Anyone thinking of buying period pants have a look here www.cheekywipes.com/organic-cotton-cloth-sanitary-pads/period-pants-teens-tweens-sporty-uk.html they are a really good price and do a great job.

CamdenTownie · 19/08/2019 18:57

Oh my goodness wolf that sounds so scary!

CamdenTownie · 19/08/2019 18:58

Love the dresser em I'd give it a good sanding and paint with farrow & ball lamp room grey and change the handles!
