Happy New Year to all the frugaleers.

Spends yesterday:
£18 supermarket
£30 night out

Spends today:
£40 gift

My frugal aim for the year is to save something. I have to do a new budget over the next few days and figure out how much we can realistically save. It won't be a great deal as we are at an expensive stage with a mortgage and the equivalent of another mortgage to pay in childcare; I'm also on a part time salary. But I think it's important that we are putting something into a savings account every month and we can hopefully increase it in time
To come.

We're watching a Netflix movie shortly - 'Roma'. DH's friend recommended it.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 01/01/2019 22:04

I should not have watched Luther, I love him but my nerves can't take it!!

WreckTangled · 01/01/2019 22:05

I'm so happy crazy Alice is back! Can't wait for next week Grin

Wolfcub · 01/01/2019 22:11

Wreck next episode is tomorrow

WreckTangled · 01/01/2019 22:12

Is it?! That's made my day! Hate having to wait a whole week for things Grin

ememem84 · 01/01/2019 22:12

Dh refuses to watch Luther. He watched it’s always sunny in Philadelphia instead.

I’ll binge Luther at the weekend. During the day.

QuiteFrugal2019 · 01/01/2019 22:22

Eeeek no spoilers please !!
My nerves cant take watching on a school night so will watch this and episodes 3/4 of Black Lake at the weekend.

lifelongfrugaleer · 02/01/2019 07:32

Luther is on every night this week I think.

WFH today. £35 child care as dd at point club. Ds with me.
Hoping to get to the gym today but this cold is still on the edge of me.

WreckTangled · 02/01/2019 07:54

Promise no spoilers!

Think we're going to go to the beach today so the dc can ride their scooters along the promenade. Will take a flask of coffee and snacks for the dc and park down a side road for free.

Wolfcub · 02/01/2019 08:48

Morning all. Happy frugal Wednesday

I need to finish putting the Christmas decorations away and go and buy a birthday present and card for niece. Ds and I are going into the city later to the theatre (tickets bought on Black Friday) will need to pay for dinner and parking but we may go cheap and cheerful on the dinner front. Tomorrow we need to buy new school shoes

Taytocrisps · 02/01/2019 08:54

'Roma' was really good. It's a black and white movie, set in Mexico city in the early '70s. It's in Spanish, with English subtitles. It's about a Mexican maid working for a middle class family. It's very slow moving but really absorbing.

I don't think I could watch 'Luther' - I don't like scary things.

It won't be a NSD because I need to get dinner ingredients. I might order a smallish delivery for tomorrow.

I made a point of waking up early so I can prepare for going back to work on Friday. I've been sleeping in until 9 or 9.30 most mornings.

Taytocrisps · 02/01/2019 08:56

Enjoy your day at the beach Wreck and your theatre trip Wolf. What show are you going to see?

Thatsnotmybaby · 02/01/2019 08:56

Morning everyone. Last day off work today so my plan is to get organised for a couple of busy weeks ahead.

LonelyOversharer · 02/01/2019 09:00

Morning! Today I am taking dp down to get his driving license renewed. Ffs. He has had 4 months, and I recon he is running out of time. So I am being the grown up as usual and driving him there.

Just need to finish 2 orders first (nearly done) so I can post off 6 things while we are there. Will pop to b&q for some little bits, but dp has a gift card. Plus I must get chicken and snake food today.

As an aside...I did my 10k steps last night. Holy crap I am unfit!! Last year I was on zwift twice a week cycling 40 miles, last night my max heartrate was 146 just jogging on the spot !!! I need to get my steps in during the day.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 02/01/2019 10:30

Morning all.
Had a bad night of sleeping, kept waking up every two hours, so will struggle today I think. I suffer with insomnia, but this has hit me quite hard today.
I need to get an assignment finished so maybe that is playing on my mind.
Anyway will be going round to my friend later so that dd2 and her 2 youngest can play before they go back to school.
Have a good day all

Wolfcub · 02/01/2019 10:33

Taking a leaf out of Girlie’s book I’ve submitted our meter readings and I’m really pleased we’ve finished December in credit despite the direct debit being reduced from November. I need to keep a good eye on usage when I’m working at home for the next few months as it’s very easy to get cold when you are say still.

lillylollylandy · 02/01/2019 10:41

Morning all - happy new year!

I am beginning to emerge from the Christmas food/booze coma. Am now on the dry January wagon. Blergh.

Back to work tomorrow (I'm Scottish and refuse to work on 2nd January Grin) so today is laundry/tidying/organising day. Also trying to get the DC back in to some sort of routine...

Frugal goals have been on my mind. I'm going to try really hard to curb my mindless spending so will also be aiming for some NSEDs (great phrase Autumn).

DS will hopefully move from private kindergarten to DD1's outstanding state primary in September. We won't find out til April whether or not he's got in though. If he does get in then that's £1,400 a month saved from July onwards. If he doesn't get in then I'm not sure what we'll do, as the other schools in the area are simply not good. Plus the logistics of having 3 children in 3 separate locations will melt my brain. Thinking positively, when he goes to DD's school we are going to switch the SO to a savings account and bank that £1,400 every month, as much as we can. Aiming to add £10K to savings by the end of 2019.

Project "LLL Self Care" is also underway - so far, I've managed to get some runs in along with a bath and pamper session. Feeling much better for it. Digital detox is also going well, have dusted off the library card and will try to read before bed every night as opposed to MN...

Hope everyone has a good day today!

WreckTangled · 02/01/2019 10:47

Well our day is fucked. Got to the beach and dh managed to break dd's brand new scooter as we were getting out the car. Instead of saying sorry or anything he kept blaming dd and then just got in the car so I had a bit of a go saying he'd ruined the day because he could have encouraged them to still enjoy it and we could have gone for a walk etc and he just went off on one and yelled at me and swore at me in front of the kids literally screaming at me so now we’re back home and dd cried the whole drive back. Happy new year to us!

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 02/01/2019 10:56

Flowers for you wreck.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 02/01/2019 10:56

Morning all. it took me ages to fall asleep last night despite being totally knackered so am blaming over tiredness and Luther!! Got the lavender oil out eventually and put a few drops on my pillow that always works!!

Am loving not being at work this morning, we are still in our pjs and the plan is just to do stuff at home today although need to go to Aldi as fridge is empty. Looking forward to deChristmassing and getting the house straight again.

Have booked to take dd and a friend to a trampoline park on Friday, found an old discount code so booked both of them for two hours for £30 which doesn't seem too bad, will take snacks and drinks. This is the only treat I've done with dd over the holidays.

I have about £400 to last us in January so will be tight, I will use savings for dds bday present (around £150) and will also use savings to get the hallway floor done which I think will also be about £150, i might as well get it done now as they have a January sale. Will try and pay back my savings in Feb/March, well some of it anyway!

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 02/01/2019 10:58

Oh no Wreck Sad thats shit. Can you take the kids off somewhere for a bit without dh just to get some space?

WreckTangled · 02/01/2019 11:00

I would but we've already been stuck in the car for two hours today and to go anywhere else would mean another forty minutes or so of driving

Lovemaltesers · 02/01/2019 11:00

Thanks wreck.

I am desperately trying to get some motivation to write my assignment that was due in three weeks ago. I got an extension and the option of deferring the course completely until September. But I'd really like to get it done this year, whilst remaining calm and unstressed about it/everything else that needs doing.

Must get off MN....

WreckTangled · 02/01/2019 11:01

Girlie you could use your council tax free months to pay back your savings? If you pay over ten months?
