Happy new year!

Sneaky dh has started using the butcher this year (I'm veggie but he buys meat for the kids and himself) and he really rates it. Nicer quality than the supermarket e.g. no water comes out of sausages when you cook them. Loads comes out of supermarket ones. Also it's cheaper because he can buy just the amount he needs. So if he wants one chicken breast for a recipe that's all he buys. The butcher will even cut it up for him eg strips for a stir fry.

I've spent the first half hour of the new year putting the passengers in and out of dd2's toy plane because she hasn't worked out how to open in yet. 6 years ago I'd have been in bed with a hangover. How life has changed!

AutumnLeaves12 · 01/01/2019 06:29

Snuggly that sounds lovely.

Happy new year. I was woken by the fire works.

Wolfcub · 01/01/2019 08:11

Morning all. Happy new year, I have rung the year in with insomnia so hopefully a day at the beach will do me some good. Thanks all for the support through 2018, very much appreciated

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 01/01/2019 08:14

Hi all happy new year!!

Yesterday was very busy with work and then going out to a friends in the evening but just wanted to pop in and tell you all your good luck wishes must have worked! Dd was amazing ystd and let the nurse take her blood, there was lots of tears afterwards but she has had it done and I am so proud of her. Thank you for all your good wishes 😙

Working again today so will catch up properly later.

ememem84 · 01/01/2019 08:18

Woken up on nyd no hangover which is a revelation.

Ds slept until 730.

I didn’t see the new year in as was in bed and asleep by midnight.

Thanks for the congrats wreck xx

Hope everyone is ok and has a wonderful start to 2019.

lifelongfrugaleer · 01/01/2019 08:21

Ah well done girlie dd, very brave.
Lots of support left here wolf. We may yet cross paths in the city of steel. ,....
Ditto em

Justanothermile · 01/01/2019 08:26

Wonderful news Girlie, well done to your DD.

Aww Wreck, super good to see you. Understand we all need a break sometimes, this thread can feel a bit bonkers at times when you log on. But it's great to have you back and I'm glad you had a super time in Lapland.

I was going to message you fluffy - you are the soul of this thread so even a couple of days and it's noted you're not there.

My chickens are all laying, pale combs sounds like they are off colour? Do they need working perhaps? Tried some ACV in their water for extra voom? I get so excited when I get new chickens! We have scrambled eggs most days so lunch is covered - the pet that gives back!

(I describe myself as Veggan 😁).

Happy New Year lovelies. Didn't make midnight either.

However didn't drink and self cared by moisturising feet hands etc with special cream pre sleep.

Today will be NSD, gym, run, washing, walk etc.

quitetraybake for tea.

Justanothermile · 01/01/2019 08:26

Support always here a little further south wolf too.

Justanothermile · 01/01/2019 08:27

Oh gods sake worming

Wolfcub · 01/01/2019 08:52

I did wonder how you worked a Chicken Jam 🤣

northender · 01/01/2019 08:58

Happy new year everyone!
Good to see you wreck
Glad your dd managed the tests Girlie
We saw in 2019 at sil's house, it was very quiet.
Study today & some dnephew time before we head back north tomorrow.

SnugglySnerd · 01/01/2019 09:00

Well done Girlie's DD!

Lovely to see you Wreck.

I was asleep well before midnight too but woken up by fireworks and again by ds.

I have just started my new year clear out with the medicine box. Lots of out of date stuff to return to the chemist. I also don't need to worry about stock piling otc stuff. We have enough paracetamol, ibuprofen and antihistamine (adults and kids) to open a small pharmacy! Not very frugal of me to keep buying it without checking. Maybe I'll get a good price for it on the black market post-Brexit! Grin

QuiteisbringingFrugalback · 01/01/2019 09:17

Happy New Year 🎉🎈🎊

Had a great sleep and missed all the excitement not
Both DSs home and in bed by 1am apparently Confused
Lovely to see you Wreck welcome back.
Girlie well done to DD
Wolf Flowers from proper daaarn saaarf !
Having coffee in bed ,plan for a good walk today and nice food and knitting .

New Year resolutions /plans
Less time on tinternet and regular breaks.
Doing this already and its most refreshing.
Would recommend as its really not great for the brain to spend too much time daily on a computer /device.

Continue exercise
Continue eating healthily.
Try to cut £50 a month off food spending
Thank you for that tip whoever posted it.
£50 is still stashed and I have "forgotten" it already.
Eat more eggs !
I need to find more recipes as I have so many and give them away.
Knit more !
Grow things

Jam I like Veggan
A pale comb is not a good sign but my bantams get a definite orange comb when broody Hmm or in the non laying part of the year.
Havent noticed it in my big hens though.

Heres to keeping it frugal in 2019 !Brew

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/01/2019 09:37

Happy New Year!

I’ve found a pharmaceutical frugal hack. You know when your ill & congested? Take a cheap one a day anti histamine, it stops it all day. I tested it on dh & it worked.

ChristmasSeacow · 01/01/2019 09:42

Morning and Happy New Year! Saw the NY in with friends and much champagne. Bed at 3, DH got up with the kids so I’m just about to stagger up now. Feeling delicate and was kept awake by awful heartburn in the night (diet somewhat forgotten and I’m not used to drinking and eating so much crap these days!). But great fun. I think we are all
Having waffles for brunch today. Everyone stayed over so there are 11 adults and 6 kids here. It’s very noisy downstairs Grin

Lovely to have you back Wreck and I’d love to hear more about Lapland if you feel like telling us!

Spent a fortune on a top up shop
Yesterday, including quite a bit of stuff to bring to friends for NYE. About £95 it was Shock. This is why I never go to Waitrose in person. I am sure Ocado saves me a lot of money.

My friend’s bed is so much more comfortable than mine and no back ache. First job of 2019 - get a new mattress!

QuiteFrugal2019 · 01/01/2019 09:53

Morning Sea
Brew for you then !
You are so gregarious -the thought of all those people in my house 😲
My lot are plenty !
At least you had lots of fun with the money and actually thats not bad considering what you would spend going out .
Baby sitter,taxi,drinks,food .
So actually quite frugal Wink

Cagliostro · 01/01/2019 10:01

Happy new year all :)

I was up till gone 2 because caffeine. Can’t have alcohol so Dr Pepper was my treat of choice :o we watched red dwarf until the final countdown.

Great to see you wreck and I’m so glad you enjoyed your trip!

Will be spending today, DH has gone to Tesco as we couldn’t get a delivery for today, but he has a gift card which should cover most. Had an email from yesbebe and they have an offer on Contigo today so that’s the prod I need to get DH a replacement. Wonder if any toys will fall into my basket 🤔

Cagliostro · 01/01/2019 10:05

Oh forgot to say I also finally took the plunge and ordered some cloth sanpro. My friend showed me hers (that sounds weird) from Weenotions and I’ve bought a starter pack of 6 all different sizes and materials. I figured with both DD and I needing some (she’s not started yet but I don’t think it’s too far off, and given her epic sensory issues with clothing we need some time to try them out) it’s the cheapest way of working out what ones to buy. £28 delivered.

I may do some sale shopping online. House stuff.

ememem84 · 01/01/2019 10:21

Money things.

My ac £160.95
Joint ac £1965
Cc £435
Savings £1867
Regular saver £2000
Lloyd’s account £35
Lloyd’s savings £1070

Should be nsd.

Payday on 21st. Lower tax rate (19% I think instead of 23%) so I’ll be approx £100 better off a month. Planning on chucking a chunk at my credit card.

On 18th £250 comes from my savings to go to a regular saver.

On payday £150 goes to my Lloyd’s ac. £500 to savings. £1700 to joint account to cover food mortgage bills etc. £20 to ds’s Account. The rest is for me.

All change is going into a jar and is being saved until the end of the year or the jar is full. Whichever comes first.

WreckTangled · 01/01/2019 10:23

Have read back a bit. Em ds is a coil baby, it was a shock but not unwanted so I know how you feel.

Sea it was amazing! The snow sparkled, it was -25 and we saw the northern lights! I would love to go back one day just for a winter trip snowmobiling etc.

The dc didn't wake us up until 8:50 this morning. Dd said they got up at 7:30. I was grateful for the lie in because ds made me take him for a wee in the night and I couldn't get back to sleep.

Planning on doing some cooking today. Going to make some tomato sauce to freeze and probably some soup. Could do shepherds pie not sure yet.

Unescorted · 01/01/2019 10:42

Happy New Year!.... I may have watched the inside of my eyelids. I was dressed to go out but, it was sooo comfortable at home.

Wreck that looks amazing. I have put it on my list of places to visit.

Sea stay tucked up. One of the other adults can deal with whatever is causing the noise downstairs.

Em I am attempting a dry January too. It seems easier when there is a "reason" ...even though I have several friends who don't drink at all, so at the pub there is a mix of drinks all year around.

Wolf & wreck we could do a mini meet. Others obviously welcome! What about a walk from Hope or Hathersage?

WreckTangled · 01/01/2019 11:03

Sorry unescorted I think I'm closer to em than I am to you Grin
