I am now highly tempted to put tonight’s chilli in a Yorker you are all a bad influence

😁 wolf

They weren't too bad. The bulb is broken in the oven so they're a bit overdone as I couldn't spy through the glass

They look nicely risen wreck and the roasties look lovely. I’m risking Unescorted’s boNo resting approach to see if the results differ from my chilled rest

WereWolfcub · 28/10/2018 18:25

You've got lovely dips for gravy too wreck. I've just thought if unescorteds method works better it's going to be a red rose beating a white one

Well that's the freezer in my garage switched itself off for the winter Sad managed to rescue most of the stuff that was in it and squeeze it into house freezer. I am considering buying a chest freezer that is suitable for outbuildings as Christmas time is when we need freezer space for deserts.

Glad that's you settled into your new house em. Wishing you lots of happy times there.

LonelyOversharer · 28/10/2018 18:35

Look lovely wreck. We had yorkies too! Dp and mines was more like fritata, as it was too thick and was cooked but hadn't 'puffed' - all eaten though (full of veg and snags).

Am just sitting down to watch the grand prix, just hope it isn't a boring Lewis fest. Will crochet some door blanket because 1.it's needed as it's freezing and 2.it will keep my knees warm.

WereWolfcub · 28/10/2018 18:53

I’m going to say not much noticeable difference between resting and not. Possibly slightly higher not resting so red rose has it.

Jam he wanted to know if I was visiting again next weekend Grin dm is hopeless at housework Grin

Looks good to me this time
*
Wreck* they look good to me

Born what a nuisance - when we got rid of dmil's small chest freezer our electricity bill dropped by €15 a month. But we had a full length freezer inside

ChristmasSeacow · 28/10/2018 19:23

I hope you have many happy years in your new home Em. My DH pranged my car into our new NDN’s car the day we moved in, I wasn’t impressed!

We’re having a spicy butternut squash bake with salmon. Smells gorgeous as it cooks but that doesn’t stop me wondering whether it would go nicely with a Yorkshire pudding Grin. I’m trying to stick to the diet though so no Yorkies here. Stop with the temptation!

Fab lunch at a friend’s house yesterday. He’s the excessive cook, so it was excessive as usual. Antipasti included some cheese containing decayed dead maggots (he’d brought the cheese back from Sardinia... it was a rather aggressive cheese, to say the least) and then we had pasta with clams and then some sort of hare casserole. I’d never eaten hare before, it’s very gamey. Then panna cotta. I was too stuffed to eat in the evening. Would’ve been a great day if dd hadn’t been really sick again in the night. It was a big midnight clean up job again and lots of washing today. She hadn’t been sick since Wednesday so I thought she was on the mend (though she was very cranky yesterday). Anyway, apparently not better Confused. She’s also managed to give the vomiting bug to my mum, who’s feeling awful with it Sad. So mum may not be able to do childcare this week, and was meant to be doing 3 days because of my big deadline... nightmare. DH will have to take some time off if necessary. I’m already working well into the night as it is.

I got a 500 point voucher in Sainsbury’s today with one swipe - is that a fiver’s worth?

£19 top-up on washing powder (trying Sainsbury’s own brand non-bio), bin bags, cleaning stuff, bit of fruit and bread.

Oh, and then £80ish (waiting for the final bill) on an emergency locksmith. Our new front door lock has been sticking and now the cylinder has suddenly gone and we couldn’t unlock it from the outside at all. We couldn’t risk leaving the house together so I had to call someone out so I can do the school run tomorrow! I will try to reclaim it back from the door company as the door was only installed a few months ago Confused. Annoyingly I had two keys cut today, £10, and it was on returning that it became clear we needed a new lock. So even more annoying!

Anyone know whether light coconut milk can be frozen? I’ve used half a can in tonight’s dinner, hate to throw the rest.

ememem84 · 28/10/2018 19:32

No Internet here so have to use my data. Sigh.

But charity shop lk Bennett shoes sold. For £20. Yahoo. Will post when I can find the post bags...

Unescorted · 28/10/2018 19:46

wolf it is golden in my part of the world. We are more secure in our global status so don't shout about it so much. 😁 Having said that it is a Yorkshire recipe I used. I needed dh to translate. Brian Turner's Grandmother's recipe and method.

I have got into traditional cooking and baking... It isn't as tasteless as the post war stuff would have you believe. It is something we should celebrate because done well it is awesome. Ginger and Rum cake from Whitehaven, curd cakes, poachers pie, Bakewell tarts, oatcakes, scotch pies, stotties, apple crumble cake, pork pies, pasties, parkin... By rights I should be the size of a cow

Unescorted · 28/10/2018 19:52

sea give it a try. I can't see why it shouldn't freeze. If it splits give it a good shake and it should come back together.

Born that is super annoying...

Back at the end of strictly.

ChristmasSeacow · 28/10/2018 19:59

Unescorted I am the size of a cow 😂. I love making traditional recipes but am really having to hold back on the baking at the mo forever . That ginger and rum cake sounds amazing though, would you share the recipe? I love all things ginger.

I can’t watch Strictly till kids are in bed and DH has watched Dr Who 🙄

Bake off final this week and they are asking for applicants for next year. I’m not brave enough but maybe one of you is? Wink

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 28/10/2018 20:11

We loved bohemian rhapsody! I have a real soft spot for Freddie, such an amazing man and died so young 😢 mum paid for the tickets and I bought the snacks £5.

Am loving the new chair, I keep trying to post a pic but for some reason it won't work 😕

Unescorted · 28/10/2018 20:19

It is just a traditional batter type of ginger cake with crystallised ginger and sultanas / raisins seeped overnight in rum and a couple curls of orange zest. Decrease the liquid by the amount of rum left in the soaking bowl. I use dark muscavado and treacle although some recipes are golden syrup and a light brown sugar.

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/10/2018 20:23

My kids want me to on. I'm not good enough. Bless them.

£5 £shop today, £2 boyes, £5.49 regatta as can't find dd's.

Should be packing. CBA. Not feeling the holiday love, sick of being cold already.

Damm that cot.
Good luck with the arm chair.

I like Quorn but recently it's made me feel a bit gippy.

BBC good food Yorkshire pudding. Only time mine went wrong I opened the oven

ememem84 · 28/10/2018 20:28

girlie so glad the movie was good. It’s one I want to see.

First dinner done (thanks Dm who packed us off with a lasagne!!)

We’re sorting through a box of crap. And drinking a glass of bubbly. Yay.

We have also found a bunch of mystery keys. At the back of one of the kitchen drawers. There are about 40 of them. I’m assuming they’re for doors here. Will test out during the week.

Thatsnotmybookworm · 28/10/2018 20:47

Congratulations @ememem84.

Spends today
£21 supermarket on breakfast pastries, some extras for dinner as we had unplanned guests, and a few other things, including some crisps that I have put away for Christmas.

£12 kindle books, have had a few very enjoyable hours reading this weekend.

Cagliostro · 28/10/2018 21:13

Happy moving in day em 😍⭐️🏡🎉

Just catching up on the thread and see I’ve missed mention of toenail fungus and fish jizz. I love you lot.

Tooth out tomorrow. He reckons it may not work (I have really twisty roots) but worth a try 😳 (he will refer me to specialists if not)

ememem84 · 28/10/2018 21:18

Oooh I missed fish jizz. Did that relate to quorn too?!?!

I am in bed. Catface came out of her room and has settled on bed with me. Dh isn’t exactly happy about it (“that cat isn’t sleeping in our room....!”) but I’ve pointed out she either sleeps here where she feels safe and secure, or she cries most of the night and ends up on bed anyway. So it’s the lesser of two evils. For him. I like having her here.

Dm pointed out today that she needs me as much as I need her. True story. She’s my girl.

Anyway.

I reminded dh about the conversation we had when we first got catface. It went like this over a few months “no cats in our room” then “no cats on the bed” then “no cats in our room on bed at nighttime” then he realised that cats do whatever the fuck they want.

ememem84 · 28/10/2018 21:19

She also only ever grooms herself on his side. Ha!

Unescorted · 28/10/2018 21:19

life there must be top playground bragging rights if a parent is on bake off. Mine want me to do it too... forgetting I have a really bad hand tremor. Not great for icing.

Em ours came in a tin. I still don't know what they are all for. We moved in 10 years ago. Yay for the bubbly.

Cagliostro · 28/10/2018 21:40

Nope em it was the Fluffster mentioning cod roe 😬😅 I see I also missed maggotty cheese. Too far 🤢. Apparently maggots are where my line is, who knew?!

It does make me wonder when they do quorn mince (other brands are available... presumably?) as a substitute on EWFL. How do they know all their tummies can handle it? According to MN at least, some people get horrific tummy cramps etc... not what you need in the middle of the food swap week.

Bought a different silly cup today, spends on food as well, and a charging cable for which I WILL keep the box this time as the istore won’t exchange without. Also got given hotel chocolat vouchers in the mall, whoop.

Cagliostro · 28/10/2018 21:41

My kids would never ask me to be on bake off, I can’t even make a decent rice crispy cake 😳

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 28/10/2018 21:55

Well I helped dd2 earlier with her last bits of homework, we had fun with our experiment. We did one exploring surface tension using milk, food colouring and washing up liquid.
The Aztec, Olmecs and Incas history not so much.
Dr Who was bloody scary!

Em glad your day went smoothly.
Cag good luck tomorrow.
