Umm if you can feel the stalk then you need to shove it higher said the actress to the bishop
A couple of times in the beginning I didnt and crikey my eyes watered Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/09/2018 21:40

Apparently if you bear down while inserting it sucks it higher up. The potential for jokes is endless with these things. But £3 off ebay is a hell of a saving compared to traditional san pro.

I haven't had kids so any readjustments required a nail cut. I didn't need to cut the stalk and couldn't feel it unless I was looking for it to clean it out.

AdoraBell · 29/09/2018 21:49

NSD for me. DH bought coffees, his aunt was in town, then aunt bought lunch.

QuitelovesStrictly · 29/09/2018 21:49

I must have saved a fortune Fluffy
A conservative £3 a month x 12 x 9 years =£324 .
It cost me £20 as it was quite early days when I got mine.
Really it was more due to the environmental impact and I used that or washable pads if I was at home.

ememem84 · 29/09/2018 22:25

I’m tempted by mooncup but just can’t do it. Despite the fact that this time last year I had about 6 people staring into my fanny at once. Ah the joys of childbirth.

Such a yum dinner. We walked home (much to my annoyance) 30 minute walk vs a 10 minute walk to taxi queue, probably a 30 minute wait and then £20. It made sense. But I hate walking up that bloody hill. Haha.

Entirely non frugal evening. But it was dh’s treat for my birthday next week. So it doesn’t count.

Wolfcub · 29/09/2018 22:33

Em, it sounds like a lovely evening. Ds loves sushi so he would happily have helped you demolish that platter. Everybody needs a treat for their birthday En

ChristmasSeacow · 29/09/2018 23:41

I love eel sushi! But sea urchin... never again. That looks great Em.

My periods have got progressively worse after each pregnancy; after DD I was not enjoying them at all but am now on a newfangled pill (Zeletta?) and it’s bloody marvellous. Apparently 1 in 3 woman have periods, 1 in 3 have spotting on and off and 1 in 3 have nothing. Am 2 months in and looking like one of the latter . And my skin looks relatively fabulous.

I had loads of mending to do tonight but just watched Strictly instead.

mammynowanauntyIRL · 30/09/2018 02:26

Hi kitkat

Any cheese & chutney ladies no fighting needed!

How is ds after contact wolf

I'm the opposite to you all my periods are so light I'm not using any protection at all & underwear is not even getting stained but the cramps/cravings/exhaustion makes up for it Sad hoping when things go back to normal to get a mooncup

Yesterday was a nsd I only left house to visit a friends on foot

SnugglySnerd · 30/09/2018 06:01

My periods have been worse since having the dcs. Due on today or tomorrow. It's horrible when it's heavy at work because if I can tell I'm flooding but in the middle of a lesson there's nothing I can do. Currently use the heaviest absorbancy tampon and a night time pad and it's black clothes all the way!

SummerDaize · 30/09/2018 07:01

Gosh I had no idea that periods could be so complicated. I've never had any of that kind of trouble, thank goodness. I wonder what makes the difference in who gets it and who doesn't?

I really really wish that the Royal Society or similar would offer fellowship specifically for scientists to come and work with the mumsnet community to gather data on this kind of stuff. It seems like it really matters, and you can bet any money that nobody's doing anything at all about it just now.

SummerDaize · 30/09/2018 07:03

Do you think that's a good idea, and should I write to them and suggest it? I mean, as a community, do you think we would be happy to give anecdotal evidence on women and children's health matters so that some proper progress could be made? I think there is a huge gap in reseach and MN seems like the perfect place.

ememem84 · 30/09/2018 07:25

I think a lot of it sunny is genetic. My mum had very heavy periods which looking back were probably awful to cope with.

She had a hsterectomy when I was 10 (she would have been 40) and never looked back.

Speaking to her now she suffered from endometriosis which got worse after she had my sister.

My sister had ridiculously heavy periods. She’s on cerazette now which stops them. Like snuggly she’s a teacher so flooding was an issue for her and not being able to just pop to the loo to sort things out.

Dgrandma (mums mum) also suffered badly apparently. Always migraines and vomiting during gets.

I’ve gotten off relatively lightly. Even before I was on the pill I’d have one heavy day then the rest was fine. Now I have Minimal cramping (which actually I’ve found gets better the more hydrated I am) and it’s very easy to cope with.

Anyway.

Today I think we’re going to go and watch the super league triathalon for a bit then I have a cake to bake for works bake sale tomorrow.

Wolfcub · 30/09/2018 08:03

Happy Sunday frugaleers

Mammy thank you for asking, I think up and down, some of that was because h had spoken to him about his behavyat home so he was chastened. I sent him to bed pretty much as soon as we got home as it was passed bedtime but he hadn’t had what I would call a proper dinner Angry and the film they had seen had scared him so he was up and down until 11.30 last night. We will see what today brings.

All day activity for ds today which I will have to go and watch. I need to find some thick socks and a heat patch for my back first! We do not have picnic stuff due to my own organisational failure but I will take some snacks for ds and buy him lunch.

Sunny I don’t think it’s genetic in my family although difficult to tell as my mother doesn’t talk about this stuff but she never seemed to have any trouble, always bought normal pads etc. I on the other hand had a straight 7-8 horrendous days each month. Post ds thigs were better for a short while but then reverted to normal. Cerelle has been a life changer for me and I don’t even care that it’s lrkvabl contributing to my fatness. I remember being at work once in a secure location. We had had to leave bags at one end of the building and had a meeting at the other. It was a mile walk between the two and I had felt myself flooding for over an hour before we walked back to bags (which I had to beg for as it was not in the plan). Like Snuggly it was mega tampons, pads and all black clothing all the time

mammynowanauntyIRL · 30/09/2018 08:16

Just saw an app called manage Christmas for managing your Christmas budget

Hope today's a good day wolf

SummerDaize · 30/09/2018 08:17

Gosh, it's really complicated isn't it? I've been talking to a friend of mine in RL about this stuff. She's a consultant at the hospital and we're both frankly cheesed off at how so little is known about women's, children's and post-natal health. I think we may have a little council of war and see what can be done.

WreckTangled · 30/09/2018 08:20

Hi sorry haven't caught up have missed too much. Will start again now.

Spends yesterday...
£15 parking
£11 lunch
£35 dinner (dh paid)
£24 Dorothy Perkins (get nhs discount so got a long sleeved whit t shirt and a chunky yellow knit jumper)
£2 tiger
£35 decathlon.

I'm in agony this morning haven't got out of bed yet my hips hurt so much. Need to get moving!

Wolfcub · 30/09/2018 08:51

Wreck, it’s lovely to see you. I hope the hips ease soon.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 30/09/2018 09:12

wolf was it the clock in the wall film? Dd went with her friends to see that and said it was terrifying! ! I did wonder as it's a 12A which seems to be the equivalent to a 15 in my day.

My periods are getting worse as I get older I think, my mum also had heavy periods. I also get hormonal migraines which are hideous. Hormonal contraception sends me loopy so that's def out. I'm just waiting for the menopause now!!

Yesterday evening I suddenly got pins and needles in my left thumb, it's still there now a bit. So annoying as want my arm/shoulder / neck to be better. I'm back to work next Fri, physio tomos morning so fingers crossed they can help.

SummerDaize · 30/09/2018 09:28

Does everybody's period seem to get heavier then? Mine is barely there at all and I'm 43. I keep wondering if I'm secretly having an early menopause.

ememem84 · 30/09/2018 09:52

Apple sultana and cinnamon pancakes for breakfast. Mm.

Ds enjoyed them (but not the sultanas so much). He’s now napping. He was putting up a fight then catface hopped up on the bed next to his cot, and glared at him. She’s snuggled on bed next to his cot now. Purring away.

Cagliostro · 30/09/2018 10:12

Council of war sounds good summer it’s often mentioned on MN but I really do think if it were men having these issues there’d be a lot more progress and treatment available 🤔

Mammy mine were almost like that until now. Ridiculously light, I’ve spent nothing on Sanpro until yesterday as I had a few left over, hence not bothering to buy the washables yet. But the cramps and the PMT rage were horrific, far worse than ever before. Then had absolutely nothing for a couple of months, now this.

Got much worse overnight and I even ended up phoning 111 but they reckon it is ok given the circumstances, so just going to stay home and ride it out. Ugh.

Have sent DH to Asda for various supplies. New sheets included as I went through 3 😰

I’m going to go back on the ferroglobin, I had forgotten for the last week or so. Probably not helping.

SummerDaize · 30/09/2018 10:21

Yikes cag that doesn't sound fun at all. I hope it get better soon.

I'll have a chat with my friend. I do think that more should be done and the whole science community is very keen on inclusiveness at the moment.

northender · 30/09/2018 10:36

Morning all.
Welcome Kitkat
Em your description of your Friday night with your dad made me laugh. It sounds like most nights we spend with the pil! As they are at the other end of the country, it's not that often, but it's hard work.
Curls I definitely wouldn't say anything to JD. They will never realise & it would not be worth it to them to get it back. Think of it as compensation for all your trouble.
Inspiring to hear so many stories on here of people turning their financial situations around and the different approaches people have.
Yes, I use a mooncup and, like Quite, I have saved a small fortune. I bought mine after dd was born (almost 14 years ago) and paid £18 for it. So 14 years of not buying sanpro= £££ saved.

Have had a busy but good couple of days. Went to a Temple Spa (posh skincare/toiletries) evening with some friends. Spent too much, but bought a set which I loved & dh will give to mil (& get money for) to give me for my birthday or Christmas. Got a similar set for dd which will be part of her Christmas present and a lip scrub & lip balm set for her birthday. Also a set for my best friend who is having a really tough time at the moment. It was good fun and I'm very happy with what I got. The only other time I went to one was a few months ago & I spent nothing, so I'm not a push over!
Yesterday sil & family called in for brunch on their way back home from the Lakes.
Last night I went to an 80s themed 40th party. I tried to channel Madonna.....not sure how I did, but felt quite happy with my look & got lots of compliments on my curly hair, as styled by dd. I was a teen in the 80s so loved getting into the spirit & having a good dance. I drove so was well behaved & have the bonus of no hangover today.
Ds is definitely doing much better on these antibiotics, the difference is amazing. Fingers crossed it continues. Cag I think you're right re his age and the chronic fatigue, but I think it's probably because it's the age that they are prone to glandular fever & that type of thing. Sunny I know what you're saying about the stress & anxiety causing symptoms, but I'm confident with ds that the fatigue type symptoms are a "hangover" from all his physical illnesses. It seems like he may have had underlying chronic infection in his eyes which would exacerbate the fatigue & so if he can clear that, he will hopefully be okay. If his eyes flare up again, before or after the antibiotics finish then I will get him straight back to the GP.
Today is going to be about getting the house shipshape as dd's German exchange student arrives on Tuesday, study for me and golf on the tv I think. Have a good day everyone.

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/09/2018 11:15

£12.99 months sky sports pass on now tv. They emailed a link. I have the cancellation date in my diary. We can watch the next 4 F1 races now and I'll do surveys to buy dh day passes for the last two.

SummerDaize · 30/09/2018 11:17

That's great North. I hope his eyes get better soon. It's such an age of vitality, and it's a shame for him to be feeling run down like this.

Dh is taking ds to the park so I'm getting a bit of time off. Phew! Zzzzz
