I was wondering how I had been missing out on Bruce all these years @ememem84 Grin.

SnugglySnerd · 17/08/2018 21:08

Grin at Bruce! Enjoy it Em!

ememem84 · 18/08/2018 07:03

Morning.

I enjoyed Bruce! We all did!

Catface has an explore and went into dparents room and had a roll around on their bed. This is progress.

Today we are - taking the stuff we rescued from the apartment last night to storage and I’m heading to the post office.

Then I’m going riding. £30.

Ds was up early. Dh is sorting him out. Ddad has gone out for a walk. Dm still in bed. I’m still in bed. Catface is with me. She still hasn’t eaten much but this will come. I imagine it’s all very scary for her. Good that she’s exploring though.

thistimenextsummer · 18/08/2018 07:28

Bruce is welcome at mine any time! Em have you moved to DPs to be chain free? Having seen the stresses of a few friends moving within chains recently I think when/if we ever move I'd want to sell first then buy chain free (wishful thinking - don't think we'll be moving for a good few years. Would love to move rurally but we're tied to the city by jobs/children's schools and friends etc)

Holiday budget is still intact. Trying to use our NT membership, picnics etc.

mammynowanauntyIRL · 18/08/2018 07:41

Haven't been on for a few days

€7.02 toilet paper(groupon deal hasn't arrived yet) and yollies for dc
€21.37 easons pencil case ds, pencils and erasers both dc, colouring pencils dd, copy covers, handwriting copy
€79.50 meal in local hotel for dm, dc & I to say thanks for taking care of dc all week
€60 on fuel card too, was very low and price has gone up because usually full tank costs me approx €50
Yesterday was a NSD

mammynowanauntyIRL · 18/08/2018 07:42

Bought dm a denim skirt on my Littlewoods account, was reduced to €22.50, she likes it so I've said it's an early birthday present. That's on credit, I start putting money towards it in Sept

ememem84 · 18/08/2018 07:56

this yes chain free cash buyers. We’re very fortunate that we could do this. So are taking full advantge of it. It put us in the best position to find somewhere and get our offer accepted.

Today (after all the other things I have to do) my plan is to sort through our paperwork and do some shredding.

And then some eBay listing.

TakeItSlow · 18/08/2018 08:36

I've discovered a significant money saving thing.

Recently we've switched to having the amazon prime account in my dh's name, and his password is the least memorable I've ever seen. I just flat out cannot remember it. Also Amazon keeps logging me out for some reason.

The advantage of this comes when I'm feeling worn out, and I've crawled off to bed to gaze at the internet for a bit. If something pops into my head to buy, to make myself feel better, it turns out that I can't buy it. In that sort of moment I'm always more driven to stay in bed then I am to actually go and find out the password to buy the thing. So in fact the lack of a password exerts a powerful brake on emotional spending. Handy!

Lovemaltesers · 18/08/2018 08:43

take there is a way around this with amazon though so you can both log in through your respective accounts and share prime...

Lovemaltesers · 18/08/2018 08:44
TakeItSlow · 18/08/2018 08:47

Love Really?

LonelyOversharer · 18/08/2018 08:50

I've learnt to let things fester in my amazon basket. Not quite got as far as unlinking my card or logging out yet!

Bank this morning. Got to be done. But I'll soon know which way round I deal with my debt.

Weather is bloody awful, looks like it hasn't got light properly yet.

em do enjoy this time at your parents, I've a feeling it will transform dh into the most super helpfullist hands on dad and best ever husband ever. Your dad is a huge guy right?

TakeItSlow · 18/08/2018 08:52

Ooo! I found it online. Thanks Love.

Lonely LOL!

Justanothermile · 18/08/2018 09:11

Morning.

Mammy - I've only just fired up the laptop and sorry, I got so busy at work in my first day back that I didn't post those socks. It will be next week for sure. This week was a bit manic with just coming back and A Level results etc.

Menu plan for the next week or so has been texted to the family

  • Spaghetti and meatballs/veggie bol
  • Sausage, egg, bacon.
  • Jackfruit wraps.
  • Thai curry.
  • Fennel, new potato and tomato stew.
  • Bosh easy peasy pasta.
  • Freekah and harissa roast veg (trying freekah for the first time)
  • Veg kebabs.
  • Mustard and mushroom chicken with rice or veggie option.

Today is ironing, Sainsbury's small delivery, then shopping for new blinds and some wooden flooring.

My expense was a bottle of champagne as we are out tonight and all three DC from the three couples involved have done well in their A Levels.

It will be payday next week and I think we will have about £250 spare, on top of the savings I already make. This is due to a frugal holiday and planning meals. I'm totally into having as big a university fund as possible now, having realised that we will have both DC there for a number of years.

How you feeling today Girlie.

North - Your DS has been through an awful lot. I felt the same re my own DS. He has a passion in a similar way to your DS, but has chosen the more solid option, similar work ethic. I'm unsure if this is good or bad. DD has chosen her absolute passion. Your DS deserves a solid and stress free few years now. If he's with his mates and this gives him that, that might be a good thing in itself.

ememem84 · 18/08/2018 09:19

Haha lonely yes he is. Ddad is 6’4 and about 20 stone! Dh is being helpful etc.

He’s gone to the gym at present.

Ds is napping.

mammynowanauntyIRL · 18/08/2018 09:26

Just no rush thank you

mammynowanauntyIRL · 18/08/2018 09:27

Just been watching emmerdale in bed & shed a few tears Sad made some work calls too & thinking I'd better get up sometime soon but I've 3 more episodes to watch Wink

QuitelovesStrictly · 18/08/2018 09:39

Fantastic position to be mortgage free at your age em
Will you have enough left over to do all house stuff ?
We were in our 40s and it is just the best feeling to know our house is ours.
Now very wierd to be starting to think about downsizing as DC will all be at Uni/working /left home.
We will have 2 large spare rooms and I really dont want them coming back and living here in their 20s 😂😂😂
Plan to spend the next 18 months decorating and "fixing up" then make a decision about where we will be.
Its very wierd that one minute the house is full now its empty with periodic visits .
I like it actually #badmother.

Going to do spending plan for next month and meal plan for the next week.
Currently trying to keep 1-3months ahead on essentials and buying in bulk.
Also planning at least 3-6months outgoings cash available -long way off this and will be paring down all spending to achieve this.
Brexit is making me twitchy.Sad
Still not feeling that excited about this years Strictly contestants -meh .

ChristmasSeacow · 18/08/2018 09:43

Hello!

Congrats Em, definitely worth a bottle of Bruce Wink. Weirdly I know two other people who moved house yesterday, must be the season. When we bought our current house we were chain free (I sold my flat and DH and I rented together for a few months). We weren’t cash buyers because we were getting a mortgage (I thought cash buyer meant buying outright without a mortgage?) but being chain free and having the mortgage already arranged made life loads easier.

We left Orkney yesterday Sad. I’ve travelled all over the world but it was truly one of the most beautiful and interesting places I’ve ever been. Retirement dreams.... sigh. It was a long day - we drove for 4.5 hours straight from the ferry before stopping for pizza - DC were amazing in the car. Then another hour or so. All in all it was 10 hours from leaving our Orkney cottage to getting to our Airbnb place near Perth. And when we got here at 8pm we couldn’t fit DD’s travel cot in the main bedroom. So DS had the big bed and we had a sofa bed! DS was a bit unsettled so it was a difficult evening. I am also really uncomfortable in this house. We couldn’t find a hotel family room round here (near Perth - not many towns of any size) and DS hates hotels anyway so we found a house on Airbnb. It’s a beautiful quirky historic house in the middle of a chocolate box village BUT it’s not child friendly - ornaments everywhere; it’s a couple’s main home so I feel I’m intruding; it has a funny old-building musty smell AND the kitchen is filthy. Even DH the slob washed the smeary glasses before using them Shock. We’re about to leave and I am very relieved! Onto Durham today, hope to get there early enough to unpack and relax a bit this evening. Have ordered a Tesco delivery. We’ll only be 4 hours from home then - phew!

We’re meeting friends somewhere in the vicinity of either York or Durham tomorrow -tbd - but the forecast isn’t very good. Maybe an NT place as we all have membership.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 18/08/2018 09:49

Thanks jam I'm not feeling too bad but only been up an hour!! Think it's just post holiday tiredness, we had a great time but it was very full on.

Dd has riding this morning and think we will do some baking/batch cooking this afternoon.

It's raining here now so am feeling quite pleased that I got all the washing done and dried Ystd! !

Justanothermile · 18/08/2018 10:00

We are the same quite, mid 40's and both DC about to be gone in the next few years. I'm quite glad now DS came along sooner than anticipated! Large house and only a small mortgage that we could pay off if we fancied. I'm not sure when we will downsize though, as I'd like the DC to have this as their home during Uni. And this was our dream home. But it's silly to have so much equity sat here when we could tour the world or whatever.

mammynowanauntyIRL · 18/08/2018 10:04

Yay notification that my massive delivery of toilet roll is on its way Grin

Was going to visit my Nan today but thinking I'll put it off until next weekend & have a weekend of lazing around/cleaning/tidying bedrooms/watching tv etc, get dcs books sorted out for school etc

Flappyjack · 18/08/2018 10:31

em congratulations - what a lovely position to be in.

jam can I come to yours for fennel, new potato and tomato stew please? It sounds delish.

take, love and lonely I shielded my eyes over the Amazon trick. I don't need that kind of negativity in my life.

In other news I cancelled my order of the lovely joseph chopping boards. DS2 needs a new bed and the washing machine is still on the fritz despite DH attempt to fix it. I have written a list of bits to sell next week and if they don't go then the charity shop can have them.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/08/2018 10:39

Em It was the most protracted house sale ever so I would have done the same.

Dcousin has said it's £800 a month to keep his eldest at uni. Luckily his middle child has thoughts of not going. His youngest most likely will. She's the most intelligent focused child I've met so I'd be surprised if she doesn't go all the way to PhD. She got her mums IQ & her dads focus.

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/08/2018 10:46

Sea the rail museum in York is good and free. I would get the train though but it's not cheap. It's £9 to park at the rail museum and about 1.5 hours from Durham.

NT wise, Washington old hall has an indoors bit, as does benningborough. I've spelt that wrong, and nunnington both near York.

If I think of somewhere else I will shout, unless your friends know
