Best was £8ish for my 7 year old Dcat (no prior claims)
Am reeling at Seas £500 insurance Shock are you dripping in diamonds ? Grin

Bowerbird5 · 21/08/2018 08:02

Can I join in please?
I was an excellent scrimper and scraper for years when kids (4) were home. It has rubbed off on them they are all careful with their money and save up for things they want.

I am buying a new kitchen and although I have the money for it I would like to save and put money back in my account to build up my savings again. I was thinking I might open another account and transfer it on payday( pay myself first as above) and by being more careful have it paid for within the year. DH is paying half and is going to work for an extra year as no NI and it will go towards the kitchen. We are buying a range too as it is always cold in there in winter. Thinking towards retirement😳

SnugglySnerd · 21/08/2018 08:09

Welcome Bower.

Is that 15 in Strictly? I think there are 16 normally. Usually someone from Eastenders but I don't think they've got one yet!

Bornlazy · 21/08/2018 08:22

You are all putting me in the mood for baking. Might make raspberry buns and some cookies. Should be a lsd today just need tuna.

Welcome Bower. It’s funny my DM can tell you to the penny what she has in her bank account, has always been careful as we were on a budget growing up yet I have went the opposite way and am a total scatter cash. Well I was a scatter cash I’m trying to change my ways 😃

TakeItSlow · 21/08/2018 08:36

Born I like the word scattercash. I'm like that too in spite of having very careful parents. I spend too much on projects definitely. But then not enough on trying to look presentable.

ememem84 · 21/08/2018 09:05

girlie I’m not sure honestly. I need to check our policy.

Am tempted to cancel it. And take out a new one in dh’s name for catface. I looked at this last year and it was a bit cheaper for he same cover. That’s a lunchtime job though.

SnugglySnerd · 21/08/2018 09:35

I've never heard the work scsttercash before!

ChristmasSeacow · 21/08/2018 09:49

I am also now really dying to bake but I’m not at home with my stuff 😫

Not quite dripping in 💎 Quite Grin. What sort of figures do others pay for 4-bed houses? For us it’s a combination of where we live and relatively high contents value. I do have a high value 💎 engagement ring which I insure for in and out of the home, so that does make a bit of a difference. But the only other things I have listed as named items on our policy are my camera (a good SLR - also insured out of the house as I use it loads) and my very elderly Mac book. Not worth much but high replacement cost. We are fairly generous about contents value though as we have decent stuff from the pre-DC days, nothing worth a fortune individually but it adds up. We haven’t actually changed our contents value for a few years though and our premiums have shot up. The biggest impact is where we live - firstly, rebuild costs are high for buildings insurance. Secondly we are in a naice area of London but surrounded by much poorer areas. And also with good exit routes onto major roads. So the area gets targeted. That has been the reason we’ve had such a hike in the last year or two - I paid around £350 for a few years, then £430 for the same cover last year, £560 this year. Same insurer for the last 2 years but after shopping around every time 🙄. And that’s even after putting in a new more secure front door and alarm system this year. Hey ho. I’d worry if we were underinsured. Car insurance has also jumped up.

Need to do a shop on the way back from sightseeing today as we need a few bits, including milk and fruit. Am hoping that sees us through till we leave though.

I am going back to planning my glorious baking comeback now 💭💭💭Grin

ChristmasSeacow · 21/08/2018 09:50

Love the word scattercash! That’s defo me at the moment Hmm

WreckTangled · 21/08/2018 10:09

£155 school shoes and a pair of trainers
£35 helmet for ds (independent shop)
£5 birthday cards
67p stamp

Fuckity fuck.

ChristmasSeacow · 21/08/2018 10:45

£155 school shoes Shock

WreckTangled · 21/08/2018 10:49

They were £55 each seacow Shock but with DD's foot problems (and poss ds not sure yet) we have to get them fitted properly and make sure they're supportive in the right places etc.

ememem84 · 21/08/2018 10:52

We paid about £100 a year for contents insurance which included my engagement ring insured separately, my MacBook Air, and dh’s bike. I’m guessing we’ll be looking at around the £300-£400 mark for both buildings and contents.

thistimenextsummer · 21/08/2018 11:05

Lonely is that sane weight of flour to the 2 eggs or same weight as eggs + everything else? (Complete novice here Blush)

TakeItSlow · 21/08/2018 11:12

I know what you mean about the shoes wreck. It's beyond me how people manage with three kids and all the school shoes they need.

ememem84 · 21/08/2018 11:34

Had a quick look and catface is on lifetime cover with petplan. None of the comparable give the same cover for less. So well stick with them.

Have emailed to close my nil balance account.

£320 to trainer for another 10 weeks of sessions.

£19 at beauticians later for waxing. Forgot about this.

And have to buy dh some birthday gifts. Will be near sports shop after beauticians so will stop there and buy him some new gym kit.

Wolfcub · 21/08/2018 12:27

I’m going to say Richard Bertinet for bread bothe recipes and kneading method. Produces beautiful bread even with a child doing the kneading.

SkeletonSkins · 21/08/2018 13:13

Petplan really are the best providers for pet insurance - if you end up with a big bill, many vets will only take direct payment from pet plan. Other providers you have to pay it and then claim it back which can be difficult.

No spend day here. Been to the beach with the dogs which is nice free entertainment and just building myself up to cut the grass before I do some of the prep work needed for my uni course. Was going to be £5 for yoga but it’s been cancelled tonight. My car is asking for diesal but it’ll have to wait until I’m paid on Thursday!

Worse the weevils though - I’ve just put our general waste bin out and it’s got maggots! I religiously tie the bin bags tightly to who knows where they’ve come from ☹️ Horrible creatures.

Flappyjack · 21/08/2018 14:03

I am sure my granny used to weigh her eggs and she made the most beautiful victorian sponge I have ever tasted. Sadly, I didn't inherit her baking skills so I bought DS2 some cookie dough to slice and bake 😁

£40 Tesco, should be enough for three meals a day and some snacks for the four of us...until Saturday/ Sunday.
£184 Argos new mattress and bedframe for DS2.
£10 DS1 pocket money

I also need to get a new mattress protector.

TakeItSlow · 21/08/2018 14:16

Flappy what do you cook for £40 for all the time? I'd be really interested to know in case there are some things that we could do.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/08/2018 14:29

The weighing thing with baking is you use the same weight as eggs for the flour, fat, sugar.

I really, really wish I hadn't sold my kenwood chef, I would find it so useful now.

Wolf I think we're going to have to suck the price of microplanes up. I will look in TK Maxx tomorrow but I think I'm going to save my survey vouchers up for them and buy a branded one in john lewis. It's hand wash only too by the looks of it but there's no point buying one and then having the dishwasher blunt it.

£6 morrisons.

ememem84 · 21/08/2018 14:40

£75 in sports shop for dh’s birthday - gym Tshirt sand shorts.

£15.00 popcorn machine. It was the last one in the shop. Display model. So I asked for money off. Originally £24,99. So frugal win there. Plus a 2 year guarantee.

TakeItSlow · 21/08/2018 14:43

Fluffy maybe you could buy an old one from ebay? They go on forever. I have my dm's one from 1982 and the wiring burned out but there's a guy on ebay who puts together little bags of parts for the different vintages and sells them for DIY repairers. My dh rebuilt the electrics and now it is good as new.

lifelongfrugaleer · 21/08/2018 15:07

Do you weight the eggs in the shell or cracked into the bowl?

Thatsnotmybookworm · 21/08/2018 15:08

Thanks so much everyone for the baking advice. @QuiteCleanBanditlovesdresses DS would go to hell and back for a chocolate chip so I'll definitely try that recipe and, @Laska5772, DH loves muffins so I'll be the best wife ever if I start making homemade ones Smile.
