I am going to get embroidered shirts for summer next year as I’ve just realised they do them in the same dark colour as the jumper, as well as in white. They look smart but also VERY IMPORTANTLY won’t show the sun cream stains! The white ones were ruined within a fortnight of sunny weather starting and were looking pretty ratty with a whole term to go.

Em the cost of uniform will pale into insignificance alongside private school fees Grin

Was an NSD - had a lovely new Mum friend and baby round this morning - but I’ve just spent £89 inthe Joules sale. Some bits for dd for next year but a dress and two of the same tops (different sizes) for me so at least one will be going back. Oops.

Cagliostro · 28/06/2018 17:42

£100 to carpet cleaner today. Woohoo!

Felt super dizzy so DH had to rescue me 😳😳😳 the lovely Norbert. 🐲🐉 brought cagletini back on the bus for me while DH bundled me into a taxi. Bit better now I’m in the cool - I have POTS, of which a big feature is heat intolerance, it causes low BP etc. I also completely neglected to increase salt intake (very important for POTSies) in the increased heat which I now realise was a bit stupid 🤦‍♀️

Next mission for Cag - take care of Cag! 😳🙄

Sorry to hear that Cag. Sounds super-romantic though. Glad to hear you're a bit better now.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 28/06/2018 17:57

I don't see the point of private school for the first few years, it's mostly building on social and emotional development in those years imo. I also think there are lots of hidden costs and keeping up with the jones's that goes with private schools.

Busy day at work, pilates tonight and then will watch the footie.

Hope you're feeling better now cag

SunnyLikeThursday · 28/06/2018 18:04

I went to a private primary school for my first three years of school, but that was because we were living abroad and it was the only way to go to an English-speaking school. They didn't teach me a great deal though, and the state school that I went to afterwards had to fit in 6 years of education in the next three. £18k a year Reading books? What reading books?

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/06/2018 19:08

Nsd today. Almost emotional spending but did a gym class instead. Bit stressed for the next couple of weeks

WreckTangled · 28/06/2018 19:09

We have loads of private schools round here. One of them just got the worst ofsted I've ever read. It's a primary though. Most people then to do state primary, or at least first few years, then move onto private.

SnugglySnerd · 28/06/2018 19:14

That's a great idea about dodging the suncream stains on the school shirts. I'm getting 3x supermarket 2 packs of polo shirts. 5 to wear and one to keep in spare clothes bag at school then 2 skirts or trousers (or 1 of each) and 2 embroidered jumpers.
We harvested our first (and only!) courgette today. It was delicious. I hope we get some more. We only seem to have male flowers on the plants.

WreckTangled · 28/06/2018 19:20

We have white polos and it's so annoying! I don't see why they can't be navy? Ds always comes home grubby.

QuiteCleanBandit · 28/06/2018 19:25

Why are you stressed lifeBrew?
Well done on catching the emotional spending.
Visitors came,ate and went Hmm
Fed up with this now-we are just a convenient stop off and if we suggest having lunch out they either assume we are paying or say they dont have timeHmm
Have been reading a few CF threads and will be unavailable next time.
Have just finished clearing up -must be off,no offer to help Angry
Have told DH Im not bloody cooking and its each man for him/herself tonight

QuiteCleanBandit · 28/06/2018 19:32

Sorry Im really grumpy Grin😂😂😂

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/06/2018 19:43

I would be too. I’ve not hosted Xmas since the time they all fucked off at 7pm.

Rude

Sorry you got poorly Cag.

There’s nespresso compatible pods on shopmium, £1 for 10 instead of £3.

mammynowanauntyIRL · 28/06/2018 19:48

Snuggly I also buy lots of white polo but only have two out at any one time then replace them when they start to get grubby.
My mission this evening is to pack for my trip to my friends for weekend, quite I will be helping with washup though & bring goodies with me.

Today I'd to get blood taken but because I was within 20 mins car park was free. Stopped at Aldi €3.67 on a sandwich, slimbo sandwich & bottle of water. Today's lunch wasn't suitable for eating in car so I'll eat it tomo instead. Slimbo sandwich is for supper on the move tomo and so much cheaper than stopping along the way.

QuiteCleanBandit · 28/06/2018 19:54

Told DH -no more !
He agrees Hmm

ememem84 · 28/06/2018 19:59

seacow oh yes! School won’t be cheap. Dh’s old school is £3k a term. That’s the cheapest private one here. Most expensive is £5k a term. But on the plus side (if there is one) they keep the kids after school until 630 kids are fed their three meals and their facilities are excellent. Still unaffordable for us though.

Dh’s old one is essentially the same as us paying for Nursery for a year. So financially it wouldn’t be too much of a hit.

But we’ve got a few years to make a decision. House first.

I’ve sorted through ds’ 6-9 m clothes. Put away some bits have bagged some up for charity shop and have bagged some up for selling.

I need to buy him some long. Sleeve body suits. And that’s it. No other clothes needed. Hoorah!

LonelyOversharer · 28/06/2018 20:08

Another busy day. I'm really liking it, but am still adjusting to how little time there is in the day now!

Am getting better at doing the invoices and orders, but I keep having to put tipex in the meticulous super neat books. Once I get through the next fortnight my job will settle out and should be less terrifying!

We popped to the spar while dp was waiting for more prescrptions and ds and I got choc and water, so just £2.70 spent today. Tea was salad, tuna mayo, cold pasta and a cold boiled egg. It was all I could manage, with it being so bleeding hot.

Not watching the football.

WreckTangled · 28/06/2018 20:26

Cag I don't know if this is of any interest to you but I thought I would let you know (as I've just been reading an email about it) that the school nursing service is now available to home educated children in our (therefore your) area.

mammynowanauntyIRL · 28/06/2018 21:13

Frugally just took two bottles of wine from our drinks press to take as gift to my hosts this weekend, also included sweets and treats in my weekly shop so no extra spends so far

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/06/2018 21:30

Sound like CF indeed quite.
Stress is a mix of work and home. Too much to do and not enough time to do it in. Got good support though.

Private schools are very emotive aren't they. Personally I wouldn't but I see why people do.
Removes splinters from arse.

I make mine sun cream, soak in, then get dressed.

ChristmasSeacow · 28/06/2018 21:45

Before I forget: Anyone got a Chilly bottle? My sister swears by hers, water stays properly cold and doesn’t taste weird. But don’t know if there’s a cheaper alternative that’s just as good.

Cag sorry you are under the weather, defo time to look after yourself. Were you pleased with the cleaning in the new house? When do you think you’ll have your first sleep there? Ooh, exciting.

Bandit who are these CFs - relatives or cheeky friends? I have a few friends that never reciprocate but I invite them in that full knowledge. I’m a feeder and we have different circumstances - not so much financial as space to have people round. And come to think of it I cook a three course meal for my sisters /Mum at least once a month and can only think of one occasion that they’ve cooked for me in the last 10 years. But again, space. And DS preferring to be at home. No wonder I spend so much on groceries Hmm.

Em I’ve thought before that private primary school isn’t so different to nursery costs. However, secondary tends to be soooo much more expensive. And then it’s the cost of two children that makes it out of the question for us, unless PILs help (they’ve said they would - in fact they were somewhat shocked when we said DS was going to state school - I think they just assumed that we’d go private as their children did, but I didn’t!). I wanted my dcs to go to state primary anyway because I want them properly rooted in their community, ie to walk to the park and see people they know. The private schools round here have a much bigger catchment area and most people (even in this naice area) go state because the primary schools are pretty decent. They are also much more ethnically and socio-economically diverse, which I really like. However, we’d probably accept help from PILs for private secondary for DS if it was the only way to get a suitable school for him. I’m hoping he’ll get a good special secondary school place though.

Lonely the worst thing about being a working mum, in my experience, was having to feed everyone after a long day at work! I like cooking but that (and fussy eating) drained all the fun out of it.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 28/06/2018 22:16

Yes cooking after work is rubbish, it's not even just the cooking it's the clearing up that goes with it! That's why we live on quick meals like jacket potatoes and freezer food!!

Private school is emotive, I'd love to say I would never consider it as it goes against my socialist principles and it is fundamentally unfair, but if I won the lottery tomos......

The football was disappointing.

So tired off to bed 😪

QuiteCleanBandit · 28/06/2018 22:46

Ive got a 250 and a 500ml Chilly .
They are fabulous-worth every penny.
I have been known to smuggle tea in mine BrewGrin
Praps I had better not say too much more about the CF,certainly not friends as we have no other contact ,lest I end up in the FAIL !

SunnyLikeThursday · 29/06/2018 07:00

For the grubby school t-shirts has anybody tried doing a long soak wash? I do and it makes them come out looking new. All that needs done is to turn the washing machine off when the whites are in the soapy water, and leave it like that for 2 hours, then turn it back on to finish the wash cycle. That long soak makes them come out white.

My machine has a button to do that, but just turning the power button off works too.

I'm honestly not fussed between state and private schools. As far as I'm aware both will basically teach a child what they need to know.

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/06/2018 07:38

That's a good idea sunny. I can pause my machine.

SnugglySnerd · 29/06/2018 08:02

I can pause my machine too. What a good idea. Will it shift suncream stains though? Nothing seems to get that horrible stuff out.

I'm very very tired today. I think I managed about 4 hours sleep as both dts were up at midnight and wouldn't settle. When they did settle I was wide awake and took ages to go to sleep then dd1 was up at 5.30. Roll on the clocks going back...
