Girliefriendlikesflowers · 16/06/2018 18:03

christmas I'm not surprised you're gutted, I would be as well. I would however not lose hope, if it's not diseased that's good and maybe with some tlc it will recover..... I can't wait to hear about the trip, might encourage me to take dd next year.

cag we have been looking at housemartin nest boxes, the problem with modern houses is they use plastic at the top of the houses where birds nest. Can't afford at the moment but maybe next year. Poundland do the mealworms which is great.

Girl cat came back from the vets and threw up so that was lovely, am thinking she was just stressed out by the car journey.

Have spent the rest of the afternoon sorting out my shed #middleaged there was so much crap in there!!

Wolfcub · 16/06/2018 18:10

Life I was hoping it was corn beef. I bloody love a corn beef pie.

Girlfriend I am now off to look at housemartin nest boxes.

I think I’ve found a replacement for me rose arch with a little bench on it which would be lovely but it will have to wait until next month

Cagliostro · 16/06/2018 18:16

Oh I love housemartins! There used to be a nest in the house right by our bus stop and we’d see them swooping loads. Would it have to be in the, er, pointy bit of the roof? We won’t have one as we are mid terrace, could it just go on any bit do you think?

I’m not sure what kind of bird feeders we will get. Currently we hang things on the tree at the front but there are no trees in the new garden. I will miss our woodpeckers!

We’ve decided that the wild bit will be round by the shed, as that will be the awkward bit to mow anyway! So will leave that to develop as it may (plus add wildflower seeds). And start feeding the birds as soon as we get the keys, the more we encourage the better.

Cagliostro · 16/06/2018 18:19

We have an arch in the garden but it looks really tatty so not sure it’s worth trying to start something growing on it. They didn’t say anything about taking the little fence away either. The decking looks pretty manky as well, any thoughts on how to clean it? It seems sturdy and decent quality, just like it’s not been cared for.

Wolfcub · 16/06/2018 18:32

Cag you can pressure wash decking. There are people who do this as a service.

Cagliostro · 16/06/2018 18:59

Oh thanks I’ll add that to the Book 😀

I’ve achieved absolutely fuck all today.

This is the narrow storage cupboard BTW, as you can see it’s long but thin - the doorway isn’t the width of a normal door. I wish we’d measured it. Really not sure what can be realistically done with that space

You could put a hanging rail up for coats & those narrow Ikea shoe cabinets on the other wall. Wall hooks for bags, can you wall mount a pushchair holder of some sort?.

You’re going to have an absolute shitload of shoes with three kids.

£8 Father’s Day present. Fil told Dh Father’s Day is soppy so Dh has got the hump & bought a cheaper present.

LonelyOversharer · 16/06/2018 19:25

Or a couple of storage boxes on wheels (we had some great square kids ones from ikea) for winter boots/seasonal stuff to roll to the back, vacuum cleaner, mop bucket? My mum has a narrow broom cupboard, she uses it for cleaning things storage (this perplexes me!).

I succumbed to pressure at tea, did 3 teas. Baked spuds with tuns mayo, pasta for dd1 (who's off potatoes I thought you knew - better than declaring being a veggie at tea time I suppose), and sausages and chips for ds.

£16 in the co-op, but a meal of sausages in the freezer, and 3 packs (250g) of blueberries reduced to £1.63 each. Will freeze a pack, dd's will eat the other 2 fresh (in about 2 days).

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 16/06/2018 19:34

cag I have got one of those bird feeding stations, it was in aldi and only cost a tenner, it's brilliant. If we get one of those nest boxes it would go on any bit of the eave I can reach easily 😂

We have had loads of birds today, starlings, sparrows, great tits, blue tits, wood pigeons and magpies.

Cagliostro · 16/06/2018 20:45

Oooh wheeled storage! Now that’s a thought. going to ikea for ideas soon hopefully.

There are coat hooks, I could add to them as we are allowed to put shelves etc up without asking permission, but I’m not sure if it’s the best use of the space. That said it would make the hall tidier. And yes... shoes. Bane of my life and nobody actually has that many really (dance shoes are kept separately)

What I was hoping for was to put a massive kallax in there (removing that oddly placed white shelf you can see in the pic) and using it for all our games. But I really think the cupboard is too narrow to then be able to get comfortably into it to look.

Very glad we have a shed now (actually in lovely condition inside, window is missing but that should be fairly simple to sort) as all the sports club stuff can go in there! Woohoo!

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/06/2018 20:45

Sorry to hear about the tree, fingers crossed it recovers.

I've gone off corned beef pie since having DS but it always seems popular at bake sale things.

£5 at the coop on drinks as unexpected invite out for tea. Saved me £10 on Chinese

Cagliostro · 16/06/2018 20:51

My mum was saying about putting the pushchair in the cupboard but TBH it will be left in the hallway. Getting it in and out of our living room (as current hallway is SO tiny) pisses me off several times a day so I want it as near the front door as possible. This pic is the new hallway - a decent amount of space for it to be left somewhere without us falling over it.

Also check out the stripes 🙈😂

Wolfcub · 16/06/2018 20:52

Cag I’d put a couple of high shelves in across the back for little used things like Christmas recreations etc. I’d put wheeled storage under the shelves. The I’d put pegs along the wall to hang mops, brushes etc on and then shove the vac in too

Wolfcub · 16/06/2018 20:55

I’d love a hallway Cag. I have a 1m by 1m square

ememem84 · 16/06/2018 21:00

I’m waiting for dh. At the pub. Ds is asleep in the car with me.

Dh said he’d be out at 9....

Wolfcub · 16/06/2018 21:03

Em you should run a sweepstake

Bornlazy · 16/06/2018 21:12

Its a shame it can't be split into two cupboards with the second door in the dining area. that would make it easier to access. Maybe you could argue that with your medical conditions you can't get into it properly, so it needs adapted.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/06/2018 21:14

It’s such an odd space isn’t it?. Pinterest is bound to have an idea.

ChristmasSeacow · 16/06/2018 21:14

Wolf i cross posted with you earlier about the cellar junk - ew. But so good to have done it. After 3+ hours work all my shrubs out front are trimmed, all swept up and I have put up the hanging basket I planted today. MUST water it every day! It looks so much tidier now. I am a bit achy though. Tomorrow I need to finish planting stuff out the back. And start feeding the magnolia when the feed stuff arrives. I am strangely comforted that you all understand the tree love, thanks! 🌳❤️

Girlie did you know you can get nest boxes with little cameras inside so you can watch your own nests? They are so amazing. I bought PILS one one Christmas but I don’t think they’ve put it up (they love birds but I think are scared of the technical side - it’s not too hard but you do need a power supply)

I bought some amazing plants today - a kind of primula. I’ve attached a pic from the garden centre. They are going in tomorrow with the last of the ones I bought last week, which didn’t get planted because of DH’s sudden bad back!

I have a glass of Wine handy and dinner is almost ready. I’m starving!

ememem84 · 16/06/2018 21:37

Dh arrived at the car at......21.05.

Cagliostro · 16/06/2018 21:42

I’m going to need to see an OT soon anyway born to discuss adaptations, mainly for the wetroom, but I may as well mention anything else I find difficult about the new property TBH, I don’t think it can do any harm? Having the back of the cupboard accessible from the other room is genius.

I am also going to mention the cupboard being removed to fit a dishwasher. I don’t think it would count for anything, but I actually really can’t manage washing up, DH does it all. I can walk further these days, but standing upright is still usually very difficult for longer than a few minutes. I can’t do cooking that involves stirring stuff etc either, I have to sit down several times.

Anyway it can’t hurt to ask although I’m slightly worried that asking too much will make them say no to anything at all. Surely they can’t say no to the wetroom though as it was basically the reason we were on band A in the first place?

ememem84 · 16/06/2018 21:43

That’s close enough for me. He had dinner. And has also (apparently) had 8 pints of Guinness. So tomorrow his tummy will be a bit off. And tonight he’ll be all farty.

Ds woke up as I got him out of the car. Dh put him bed though so they’re both happy.

Had a lovely dinner with dparents. Dad made tiger prawns in a garlicky tomato white wine sauce. Mmmmmm. Ds had a prawn. And some spag Bol. And some bread. And a green bean. I gave it to him to play with. He bit a chunk off (he has 6 teefs now!!!) chewed it spat it out made a face. Then did it again.

We also gave him a bath at my parents. Ds thought this was hilarious. Ddad came up to “help” splash loads and squirt ds with water so their bathroom is now flooded. Haha! But ds loved it. Ddad scooped him out of the bath and let him grab the shower curtain rail too...they pretended to do chin ups.....

So am exhausted happy ds. A slightly tipsy Dh and me. All home. I’m on couch with catface on my lap and a small gin.

Dh has water and a bowl of peanuts and is watching the football.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 16/06/2018 21:58

I had some of those last year christmas but I think the beast from the east killed them 😕 they look amazing. I can imagine that a nest box with a camera in would mean nothing else would ever get done 😁 will think about putting a normal nest box up as well though.

Dd has gone to bed complaining about feeling sick, have left her with the click bowl! ! I think some old orange juice might be to blame. ..

I'm watching the footie as well, not normally a football fan but I do enjoy the world cup!!

Loveabaconsandwich · 16/06/2018 22:01

DP spent £115 in Tesco earlier. We are having family round tomorrow, but that is only really food for tomorrow. I still can't work out how he spent so much.

We didn't make it out to lunch as DD1 wasn't well and had to go back to bed. She just seems exhausted. Although she found the energy to go to a birthday party this afternoon Hmm

Tonight I am feeling quite melancholy about turning 35 this week. And jealous of people posting on fb about date nights etc. Argh, I need to get a grip Sad

meadow hope you are doing ok?
