Spendy as fuck today as we have bought DD her first phone 😭😭😭 she’s growing up

I have spent the afternoon coming up with an exam for her Confused as all her school friends have been talking about SATs. So far I’ve done some science, maths and Shakespeare questions! And am gradually learning how to add Japanese writing to the laptop.

Wolfcub · 15/06/2018 22:10

£50 go ape voucher for df for Father’s Day, ds has agreed to be brave and go with him as my dad is desperate to go with him. He’s done so much for me lately I hope it goes some way to say thank you

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 15/06/2018 22:16

Wrong 😂 so funny! What have you bought? I have set myself a personal challenge of never spending more than £5 on a plant and most of the time less than £3.

SunnyLikeThursday · 16/06/2018 00:06

Christmas The holiday sounds great. I'm from midge country in Scotland and we used to swear by jungle formula I think. I tried a midge net but it wasn't much use because the netting has to have such small holes to stop the midges that we couldn't see out. That jungle formula stuff is fine though and works a treat. I only used it on Duke of Edinburgh hikes. In normal life we just went into the house when the midges came out.

Thanks for the encouraging words on the music. It's definitely helping. I was so frustrated as a child not being able to keep up with music lessons and I seem to have sprouted enough brain to do it now. It's great to feel as though it might finally be working. My next challenge is to try to get above B on the clarinet, which is a mysterious business involving the "register key" and blowing in a weird way.

I also had a meeting with ds's teacher about talking skills and ds and I both have homework. We've each to talk to one new person in the playground per day, and then report back to each other the person's name and one thing about them.

My new friend today was called Antonio. I'm pretty certain I didn't say anything dopey to him, although I did put my foot in it with the person standing on the other side of me slaps forehead.

I haven't worked out my numbers since December Shock Must try harder.

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/06/2018 07:39

Busy day yesterday. £9 on my round for the scout planning meeting.

It's our fair today but I think it's going to have to be indoors unless the forecast has improved. My cakes were a disaster as I tried to do too much. Might just buy.

ememem84 · 16/06/2018 07:49

Morning all.

Catface are her biscuits! Woohoo! So the different ones were the issue.

Dh wanted a lie in this morning. But then wanted to watch the rugby. So I got Ds up and have come back to bed. Dh moaned. But I’ve pointed out that he’s out out tonight and tomorrow’s father’s day so wouldn’t it be better for him to have the Sunday lie in?

No riding for me today. So saving myself £27. Although we’ll probably go for lunch or something. So will spend.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 16/06/2018 08:37

Morning all, I'm fed up as some very noisy magpies woke me up at 7.15 this morning and I haven't been able to get back to sleep 😴 they woke dd up as well!!

Plan today is to pop into town as they have an event on and take girl cat for her boosters this afternoon.

Wolfcub · 16/06/2018 09:08

Morning all, contact this morning and the. A very exciting trip to the tip planned for this afternoon. Need to pick up a Father’s Day card for df from ds and one for fil other than that it needs to be a nsd

ChristmasSeacow · 16/06/2018 09:20

Morning! Today I will be tidying the front garden (lots of large shrubs need a brutal strim) and I will also buy some cheap bedding plants for the pots front and back. Garden is pretty neat but I don’t have much flowering and I’d like a bit of colour. We’re having DD’s family birthday party out there next weekend and I’ve also got friends over quite a bit in the next few weeks so I need to lick it into shape! Ocado is deferred to tomorrow as I still have last night’s dinner to cook.

I spent £35 on amazon in the middle of the night buying some stuff for DD’s birthday cake - I got a 5-pack of cake boards as I always need them and it cheaper to buy bulk, plus some sugar paste and fondant icing and a mould to make bunting letters, which I am sure I will get to use again. It’s not cheap making naice cakes but still oodles cheaper than having the equivalent cake made,

Sunny well done on talking to strangers! Re. Midges, I’m not sure what I can use on DD so need to look into that - I will check out jungle formula. I’ve been to Iceland in the summer before (country, not shop Grin) so I do actually own a midge mask and I was bloody glad of it! I hope I can find it again, I’ll definitely take it just in case. I’ve realised we are leaving in 5 weeks for 4+ weeks and I have A LOT to organise Shock. Glad we’re getting the house alarm fixed...

SnugglySnerd · 16/06/2018 09:54

Morning all. I think today might be spendy. Have a good weekend everyone.

mammynowanauntyIRL · 16/06/2018 11:03

Girlie dd bypassed the toilet on landing to use my ensuite at 5.30am which is my weekday alarm time but not my Saturday one! I was exhausted all day yesterday and intended sleeping until about 8 so I'm so tired now.

Christmas where are ye going to on holidays?

Today I'm going to sportsdirect for runners for both dc, dds toes are out through hers, she has them since August! I bought two pairs that time for her.
Ds ones are too tight, he has them since jan & worn pretty much daily.

Must also buy Father's Day presents & cards for H

Unfrugal today making two trips to town, hate that but needs must. Friend is paying me back €30 today? Must remind other friend she owes me €10, might wait until the night of event it's owed for.

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/06/2018 11:30

Baked goods for the scout fayre, except the ones at the back which are only good for custard. Pray for fine weather this afternoon

Cagliostro · 16/06/2018 11:53

Morning all (well, just about)

Am behind on the thread. Rather stressed. DH in a lot of pain, looks like arthritis but bloods a little unusual so waiting for rheumatologist referral. Bugger.

This may be a “spend unwisely for the sake of getting out of the house and distracting myself from immense feelings of panic” type day.

ChristmasSeacow · 16/06/2018 14:06

Oh no Cag, has that come on suddenly? Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious. Useless to tell you not to fret, I know. I was thinking about you this morning as I was weeding out DD’s too-small clothes and putting them in a ‘Cag’ box! Are you signing the contract and getting the keys for your new house next week? One step at a time...

They look great Life. That season is approaching here too so I hope my oven gets fixed next week!

Mammy we’re off to Scotland. We’ve a few days in yorkshire on the way up seeing friends, then a week at Loch Ness, then 2 weeks in Orkney. We’ve yet to work out what we are doing on the way back down but we’ll need to break the journey, ideally for a few days or up to a week (maybe Northumberland). It’s a once-in-a-decade trip because DH has extra paid leave for long service so he’s off work for 7 weeks. We can’t afford to spend a fortune on a big American road trip or similar, and it would be too hard on DS so instead we are just driving right up the country in our own car and staying in SC cottages en route. Ds isn’t a fan of hotels and I like having living space with young kids. it’s actually working out quite cheap for accommodation as we’re not going to any super-popular destinations (because of avoiding crowds). 2 weeks in Orkney is costing us £900 total for a 3-bed cottage on the main island (though we do need to book the ferry). Loads to see and do. I am really looking forward to it though the thought of packing and unpacking the car is ShockHmm. I hope DS copes with being away for that long and DH and I cope with being with each other 24/7 for that long too

Right, must put more washing in and get hedge trimming!

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 16/06/2018 14:21

Wow christmas that sounds like an amazing trip! I would love to take dd up to Shetland as I think she relish all the wildlife but it's soooo expensive.

cag that's crap timing, hope your dh is okay. We got some meal worms on your advice, the birds bloody love them!!

We had a nice time in town, there was loads of free shows and activities so that was good.

Spends were
£5 super drug
£3 card warehouse
£3.60 lunch in greggs
£1 tombola

Off to vets in a mo.

ememem84 · 16/06/2018 14:25

Oh cag crap timing!!

sea sounds like a great trip!

£20 at beach bar for lunch. Southern fried chicken wrap and curly fries (me) and coronation chicken toastie and curly fries (dh) two coffees. Ds had a curly fry.

Picked up my order from boots and also spent £9.85 (using points) on metanium cream and an eye mask. I’m using mine more now as the mornings are lighter earlier. Dh wanted one too!

We’ve just stopped at the garage as well for washing up liquid.

LonelyOversharer · 16/06/2018 14:32

seacow sounds like an excellent trip. I use Smidge, which I buy in Mountain Warehouse. It works on the cumbrian midges (who are savage).

My work has an advert up for a full time job. I have emailed the boss. It would be utterly perfect for me, I hope she'll interview me (as I already work for them, despite being self employed)...it would solve everything. And I sort of know all the folk that work there now, know the processes that they are doing, and love the products.

I have spent the morning skipping out the girls room, again. Two full binbags, a laundry basket of crockery and water bottles, probably 4 loads of laundry, mostly undies. Sigh. Dd1 has shamed herself into doing hers!

Yesterday was a bit spendy, £24 extra on the big car, at least we have it back now. £20 in Morrisons, £9 of that was catfood, £28 in Aldi, dog food and a top up, and £20 fuel. That'ull last all of 2 days.

I think I win the fathers day frugal prize: 2x toblerones, 2x cards. Dad and I have an understanding. He hates fuss and loves toblerone.

Wolfcub · 16/06/2018 15:14

I will be back shortly to read all your updates but just needed a mini rant Should not have bothered cleaning yesterday. My dad and I have moved two really manky van loads of wood, metal and other assorted broken and mouldy shit out of the cellar. Which means moving it through the house. Yuck. Filth everywhere. We’ve been to the tip pretty much every other weekend for 11 years so I’m left to wonder what the hell h was loading my car with on those trips. I’ve found the cradle and baby gates I though we’d got rid of. A broken hamster cage froth at we’ve had at least two cages after stopping using and god knows what else. Grrrr. I stripped in the kitchen (sorry neighbors) when we got back and threw my clothes in the washer. I’ve scrubbed myself and now I’m off to scrub the house again. Grrrrr

ChristmasSeacow · 16/06/2018 15:19

I would be more than happy with a toblerone myself, Lonely! Must drop hints before mother’s day next year...

Girlie we were originally going to do a week in Orkney, then a week in Shetland, but it still surprisingly far from one to the other - an overnight ferry or a 4-hour flight Shock. Either way I thought it was going to be too much for DS. I also liked the idea of staying put somewhere for 2 weeks as moving is rather tiring and I wanted A HOLIDAY in the middle of it all. Y’know, with cooking and laundry but not at home. But there’s plenty to see on Orkney and surrounding islands and at least we won’t run out of time if we have a couple of days of bad weather to stay home and knit

Tree man says my magnolia isn’t diseased but is probably dying from the stress caused by the Garden landscaping we had done around it. I am gutted as we used a reputable and expensive company who seemed to know their stuff and we specifically designed the garden around the tree. It is the only tree in our garden and huuuge, so it will be so bare without it. We’ll have one last try to save it by feeding it A LOT. That’s what we’re trying next. It’s not very likely to work but we can only try.

I am a bit gutted tbh 😢

Wolfcub · 16/06/2018 15:45

Cag I hope dh is ok, must be really worrying.
Sea that sounds like an amazing trip. A few days in Northumberland sounds great on the way back and, as your already coming to God’s own country, what about Lincolnshire on the way back too?
Life baking looks lovely, what’s in the pie?

I have just thrown a mug of tea down my clean clothes, I have the exhaustion wobbles. Despite my moaning I am pleased with what we’ve got done and it’ll make it easier to do most of the rest on my own now.

ememem84 · 16/06/2018 15:48

£1.65 on two fairy washing up liquids.

Dh is out out tonight. We are picking fil up at 4. Dh promised he’d sort ds out this afternoon. Ds hasn’t yet had his afternoon bottle. It’s ready. Dh hasn’t had a shower. And we need to leave in 10 minutes.

I’m not really bothered. I’m not going out. I just said to dh to let me know when he was ready. He’s going to have a nap...

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/06/2018 15:52

I’d be upset too Sea, they are stunning trees.

£15 on lunch out with Dh. We went halves.

Cagliostro · 16/06/2018 16:00

Oh girlie that’s fab about the mealworms! The wider range of bird food the better the birdwatching. It did take a while to build up (I am now wondering what birds we will have at the new house! And we will put up a bat box too) but worth plugging away at it.

Cheers all, it’s been building up a while and the blood tests took ages to come back. Not entirely unexpected but it’s getting a bit too real now. He is normally super fit but even running is getting difficult now which is just horrible to see TBH because it is so important to him.

From a selfish point of view I’m also wondering how the hell we can cope with another illness/condition in a house where there are so many issues already. That’s before I even think about the upcoming move! At least that should make things easier once we’ve settled in though, so many things should be better once we are there. No keys yet, just waiting for a phonecall but I know they had to investigate a bathroom issue so maybe that’s holding things up. Hope it’s soon though or we will miss the chance to give our notice this month Confused

NSD so far as I’m too tired to go anywhere! Just chilling watching back to back Simpsons episodes 😂

Cagliostro · 16/06/2018 16:02

Not unexpected as in, he’s been wondering about it for maybe six months or so. There are odd incidences of it in his family too.

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/06/2018 17:45

Oh dear cag that does sound awful.

The road trip to Scotland sounds ace.

Corned beef in the pie. I had to take it and the chocolate cake still warm from the oven. The pie never made it to the stall apparently. £10 at the fair.
