I'm there too now mammy! I've really hurt my hip so I need any excuse to rest it Wink

needastrongone · 06/03/2018 20:35

Evening.

Only time to skim read but I love the cardigan em, just bought a cable knit jumper in the same colour. You've lost any baby weight you had haven't you?

Sorry I'm not mentioning folk today!

Busy day, culminating in a careers fair for dd. She's fancying applying to be an officer in the army. Had some interesting conversations with the army chaps in this regard. Her expected grades are very high, so she'd possibly also get funding to go through uni and then join if that's what she wished. There's a lady phoning her in the next few days re applying, which you have to do in y12.

Spends
£5 fitness class. Followed by 6 miles at 7.30mm, coach is pushing me hard at present.
£33 humongous veg and salad delivery. Veg in every conceivable place in our house.

Veggie burger, wedges, dried fried mushrooms.

SunnyLikeThursday · 06/03/2018 20:50

We're so busy at the moment. Dh still only home two lots of half an hour a day and I'm working all my spare minutes on my science grant project. We're pottering along okay though.

I just managed to catch up on the thread a bit. Lovely to hear about the new teefs Em, and so much activity from Cagletini Cag.

Welcome java.

So sorry to hear things have got so difficult Mammy but well done on making such firm decisions. That's great that you have the house next door. It would be lovely for your dc to have their Dad so nearby.

I hope everybody's snow has thawed now. Ours has, but the house is not really warmed through yet. I'm hoping for a bit of warm spring weather to get the place warmed up soon.

CremeEggThief · 06/03/2018 21:07

I don't think I've ever been so glad of heavy rain as I was last night. It's done the trick at clearing our snow away. Hurrah!

Welcome, Java.

Glad you've got your storage unit and moving date sorted, Em. Very best of luck. You sound super organised though.

Need, DS (Year 10) is also thinking along those lines, so I'll be interested in reading your thoughts and information.

Spends: £5 bus travel and £4.34 Spar.

needastrongone · 06/03/2018 21:09

I'll be very glad to share them creme, I'll keep you posted. Hopefully the phone call with provide further info. Got to give credit to dd, she's sorting it all out herself really, I can't quite say the same for DSGrin

CremeEggThief · 06/03/2018 21:22

Thanks Need. I appreciate that. Feel free to PM, if you prefer.

AuditAngel · 06/03/2018 21:23

Hi all, thanks for all the kind wishes.

Spends yesterday £15 (ish) in Tesco, mainly chicken for dinner, coffee pods, lacto free milk for the girls, also rolls for lunch at my mum's and lemon tea my sister wanted (my dad always drank it)

Today, Sainsbury's £28 including £10.50 on a swimsuit for DD1 (but she doesn't like it do will return it), a black skirt for DD2 to wear to the wake (it is and sequinny and lovely if you are 7) plus dinner for DS and I tomorrow , some hot cross buns and a breakfast bacon roll.

£12 paying DH's credit card bill which I had forgotten about, so I just paid cash as it is quicker.

Went to hospital with my sister for paperwork, £2 parking, then into town to register the death, £3.10 parking, £8.10 in the pound shop (snack bits and bobs) and £12 on a pub lunch. Almost forgot £4 for Fire of London workshop at school for DD2.

Death certificates £40, but my sister paid for those.

needastrongone · 06/03/2018 21:38

mammy I agree with laska's comments on the other thread about the idea of living next door, sorry but he's controlling and you'd never be free xx

Ps - full on training here, I'm knackered but loving it.

audit ThanksThanks I'm hoping you're bearing up as best you can.

Wigwigeconomist · 06/03/2018 21:44

Hi all, I've been reading through the thread and would really love to join you!
I'm on my second maternity leave, imminently due to return back to work (part time). My husband works full time.
Want to start savings again (all previous savings went towards a house deposit 2 Years ago and we have been somewhat frivolous since then) but I have so many different saving funds I'd like to set up-I'm at a bit of a loss so need to research
Need to be frugal and commit to some NSDs , looking forward to the challenge...this won't be easy but hopefully will become a habit
Also need to pay off 2 credit cards Sad

auditangel sorry to hear your sad news but heartened to see you've been able to get things organised with the wake and so on.

Nofilter · 06/03/2018 21:54

Thanks ladies some great suggestions. For now I think I’m going to use my lovely life organiser and set out the month ahead as that seems easier. I’ve changed the way a pay a few things like the farm and dog walker to online so less cash...

My mortgage has gone though today after 7 HELLISH WEEKS OF THE VENDOR THREATENING TO START VIEWINGS AGAIN!!

It’s so exciting it’s not really sunk in!

I’m also looking into turning our two houses (mine and mums) into HMOs where we rent out each room to make more profit as our goals are all about becoming financially secure from our assets and the money left over after buying the farm... so here goes with that one I hope it’s a success but at least using our existing homes the risk is less compared to buying another property for the purpose!!

I got some unexpected money from a business which was nice so treated myself to £143 on 4 pars of new Black johdpurs, 4 Black jumpers on Bohoo sale £6 each and 4 Black long sleeve cotton t shirts as I spend so much tome in farm wear I wanted to smarten myself up and a sheepskin girth cover for Coco my horse...

Apart from that I’m using the freezer this week as I want to defrost it and I’ve sorted through all my food cupboards and know exactly what I have now.

Next job is Ebaying a LOT of my clothes. Decided if I’ve not worn it in 2 years it’s going! I’ll use Vestiaire for the designer stuff as been really pleased with that app so far!

At some point I need some new boots, something in between walking boots and wellies that are comfy for day to day as I’ll not want to be in full knee length boots in summer... I shall see what’s available second hand I think...

So, all steam ahead really and what a time to become a frugaleer! My last house I employed an interior designer and omg she was so expensive and I got NOTHING near what I spent really - but at least she’s shown me how now...

Anybody know a great curtain maker / alterer in the Shropshire area as I have a really big job going altering all of my curtains for the new place I invested in them and they are all beautiful...

Apparently the sheep farmer who uses our land to graze his sheep and takes care of the fences in return knows good builders / handymen etc and there is a metal worker renting one of the barns who I plan to ask to make a full park for my daughter (hoping to encourage the village kids to come and play with her!!)..

So much to dooooo agghhhh

Audit im so sorry to hear of your Mum passing massive hugs my love xxxx

Nofilter · 06/03/2018 21:54

Hello WigWig I’m a newbie too - just completed my first month of frugaleering and highly recommend it - welcome xx

Cagliostro · 06/03/2018 21:55

Yes I do think it’s worth considering if you’d actually feel any more free if he’s right there :(

Welcome java!

NSD, just went to tap. Lovely to see friends as we’ve been a bit isolated due to illness and snow.

I am looking at various chemistry related things for DS though. The obsession continues!

Oh not NSD as £100 Tesco delivery, included a teether for Cagletini, a bristly one which she is absolutely mad for.

Cagliostro · 06/03/2018 22:02

Welcome wigwig! :)

Just realised I have to find my World Book Day vouchers, used them with a friend who does Usborne. And need to visit the library for printing, will look up a BLW book there too as don’t want to buy it. And take the game I’ve sold to a friend.

SunnyLikeThursday · 06/03/2018 22:54

Creme It's lovely to see you back. I've been working so diligently at my pacing. You would be proud of me. I hope things are going well there.

CremeEggThief · 06/03/2018 23:08

Thank you, Sunny. It's lovely to be back! 😀

Moanranger · 06/03/2018 23:35

Welcome wig & java
Audit hope you are coping, tough process.
Spend: avoided frivolity, & spent £13 at Asda, fish, chicken, salad, stir fry veg & teriyaki marinade. Bought petrol late last night, £36
Met up with one of my male (middle-aged) friends who uses me as an agony aunt to discuss state of his marriage (not good). He seems to be trying to salvage it more than his wife. I am in this role with several male friends, sort of an on-going soap opera. He bought lunch.

ChristmasSeacow · 06/03/2018 23:47

Back now Wreck, hope you’re fast asleep! Lovely evening, £22 spent which is all for today. Tomorrow is the big top up shop...

Friend has just shown me the houses they are viewing in the midlands. For the same price as their 3-bed terrace here they will get an amazing 4 or 5 bedroom house with land. Am Envy

Nofilter · 07/03/2018 04:55

Welcome Java!

This is a really cool place to sort that spending out once and for all!

I’m in Dubai I spent the £1600 I saved!! Why not - first holiday in 4 years - feels good to know this is because I saved
.

But not exactly the idea of frugaleering haha

Nofilter · 07/03/2018 04:59

Hello,

I’ve started saving with Plum the app that takes little amounts often so you don’t really notice it and I’ve opted to invest, in giving it a year to see if it’s worth it. Anyone else doing any of this modern saving platform stuff like peer to peer - funding circle etc?

X

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/03/2018 07:01

Nofilter, it's exactly the idea of frugalling. Spend money wisely on what you want. Making it work best for you.

No I haven't plum. Fluffy is usually the woman on the forefront of stuff like this.

needastrongone · 07/03/2018 07:32

Love the idea of the fluffster being at the forefront of our frugal chargeGrinGrin

needastrongone · 07/03/2018 07:32

Bloody enjoy it nofilterSmile

ememem84 · 07/03/2018 07:37
