All those places sound lovely, I am not keen on holidays where I have to do stuff, will your friends do their share of stuff?

confession ... I was a bit worried / feeling guilty as I joined this frugaller thread with a secret plan to save for an expensive character meal when we go on family holiday to DLP, but feel like I won't be turned away afterall! I do genuinely need to be more sensible with money though in general.

yumyumpoppycat · 12/09/2017 20:38

Excellent plan re cabaret Laska!

WreckTangled · 12/09/2017 20:41

Oooo we did the character meal at dlp it's a must! Saves you queuing for ages to meet them and the food is actually pretty good.

Also cag our door doesn't have metal in it, I know because dh fitted our cat flap.

Booking for panto and santa opened at our local farm park today. We have membership and it would still cost £85! I didn't check out, they can F off I already pay £35 a month to them. Bloody greedy bastards.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/09/2017 20:51

Yumy That's the point of frugality, spending it on important stuff & not cappuccinos.

Another £10 valued opinions voucher claimed 🙌

yumyumpoppycat · 12/09/2017 20:52

Wreck that's good to hear, it will be youngest dd's birthday the day we have the meal reserved for, apparently you can order a cake and one of the characters brings it to the table... probably the last time my dc will be young enough to enjoy that type of thing, which is why I went ahead after lots of dithering.

WreckTangled · 12/09/2017 20:58

Yes they play a happy birthday song over the speakers too!

ememem84 · 12/09/2017 21:00

Do it yumyum sounds amazing!

I caught dh looking at the hush "book". Hmmm.

I have succeeded today. Dinner made and eaten, leftovers in a small pot for lunch tomorrow. Washing out of machine and put to dry. New washing in and machine on timer. Washing up done. Helped dh make bed. Now in bed with a tea a squash and a couple of peanut butter Oreos. Mmm. Oh and catface.

LonelyOversharer · 12/09/2017 21:17

em I know it feels like you're slowing down, but you are doing amazingly. Your body is really very busy at the moment looking after two people, thats epic. By your stage with dd1 I was living on the sofa doing sweet fa all day! This didn't work so well for susbequent babies.

Have zwifted again, a group ride thing, had over 200 people in it. I was in the living room, dp in the conservatory, both on virtual trainers! So sad!

laska keep the bag, it's cute. Says the woman who bought yet more yarn today. Which I got cashback for too.

fluffy you must do so many surveys. I am surveyed out (broadband/sky anyone?) and have earned about £6!

Cagliostro · 12/09/2017 21:19

I think the whole point of Frugaleering is to save money for stuff like that though yum :) things that matter to you!

Cagliostro · 12/09/2017 21:20

But the point is that what matters/needs to be saved for is different for everyone. And that doesn't matter because we all have the same goal even if for different reasons IYSWIM

CollieBobs · 12/09/2017 21:23

I love this thread! Just sayin

Laska5772 · 12/09/2017 21:24

yum yes Frugality means you can save to splash out! Blush,

But seriously when I first started here, -although I had been overpaying into my pension pot for some years I also had £3k in debt on credit cards and was going O/D at regular intervals..

That was 2 years ago but with help focussing and advice here I got YNAB and started budgeting and prioritising paying off debts..

We are now mortgage free , I have ££££ figure personal savings and £0 on my credit card as I pay it off now as i spend it. I am also planning on taking early retirement in December, and hoping to use my pension overpayment lump sum to buy a motorhome (jointly with DH )

It may seem that i am a bit profligate with handbags etc.. , and I do like to treat myself , but I now save every month, never spend what I dont have nor go into debt now..

For vo you need to hit them at about 5pm. One 75p surveys £20 a month extra.

I find them boring too. I'm hoping that they'll pay for Christmas this year with the nectar points.

Laska5772 · 12/09/2017 21:31

Oh yes cashback! Yum Always use cashback sites!
I got £90+ back from Quidco these last couple of months for things like insurances and utilities (ours and those I bought for DS flat move) earlier in the year).. and have another £60 confirmed for our holiday hire car and a few more odd £s on bits and bobs .. (thats more than a bag aint it? WinkGrin

And we are very happy to have you back on the thread collie :o

I can't watch dr foster until tomorrow and I'm grumpy about it

Spends today £40 Pizza Hut £10 bus £42 Tesco (barely remember what I ordered last night I was so tired!)
Reactivated ISA so will transfer fridge money when the app lets me

Laska5772 · 12/09/2017 21:35

I also always seek out discounts and free postage for online purchases and buy with those if i can.. I could have bought my stick blender from Currys spares, through Quidco, but it was more expensive than the company I did get it from and that company then gave me an extra 5% for signing up to them..frugal result!!

I use a 'generic' email address for shopping on line and for signing up to sites for discounts and just unsubscribe from newsletters later ..

Need did you say you had Clinique offer with your John lewis card discounts? . Mine is for Dermalogica but only for the Southampton store. I m not sure if I'll use that .. I also have a £5 gift card offer if I spend £50 but that can be anywhere . and a Boden offer for Southampton only ( I didnt know they did Boden there) ..

We are going to JL Southampton on saturday . and will be ordering our new sofa . JL are good for us to use for big things like that because they deliver to the Island free of charge..

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 12/09/2017 21:49

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 12/09/2017 22:09

Evening all,

I love this thread as well, shall we all have a group hug?

Am sure your hair looks lovely Collie and the good thing about hair is that always grows!

Laska if you can afford it and love it then keep it.

Dr Foster annoys me too much to watch it Cag stupid woman needs to get a life imo Wink

I have spent a lot of today being very excited every time the cats come and go through the cat flap Grin simple pleasures!!

Dd had an unfortunate incident at school today where she got caught up in a brawl between some older kids and ended up getting knocked by a chair that one of them threw!! Angry Not impressed, have a meeting booked with her tutor next week so will talk to them about it then. She is fine but it frightened her, grrrr.

mammymammyIRL · 12/09/2017 22:20

Girlie I'm all for the group hug. Sorry I'm not posting as regularly as before I plan to rectify this Smile
Spends today €40 on gift voucher for my work bff's birthday she'll go nuts but you & she listen to more of my thoughts than my dh!
€60 on gift for my bffs pfb Smile
I'll try take a pic if I can avoid outing the baby! It's personalised.

yumyumpoppycat · 12/09/2017 22:28

I am glad my guilty secret is out now Grin and I esp love this thread if hugs are allowed!

Wow Laska that is brilliant to have cleared cc debt etc, and mortgage free

I also have a JL CC card for our day to day spending so get the lovely vouchers but I totally missed any promo offers. Not sure I am willing to climb in the wheeley bin and look for them...

Actually that is one of the only times I shop in waitrose, when the shiny gift vouchers arrive. I especially love it when they coincide with £8 off a £40 spend vouchers. I am cross on my mums behalf as she shops in waitrose all the time as within walking distance of her and gets rubbish incentive spend offers.

yumyumpoppycat · 13/09/2017 01:09

have bought myself an early birthday present Blush posted about it on herexmas thread TBF I really wanted to try eve lom cleanser and in theory I get to do so for £7.70 after cash back so not all bad! Have signed up for 3 beauty boxes, 2 to give as ds and dsil xmas gifts.

SnugglySnerd · 13/09/2017 06:20

Ugh why do small children wake up so early??

Hope your DD is ok Girlie. That's not very nice in her first full week at secondary school.

Pub lunch yesterday. £40 for 3 adults and DD plus beers. Mil bought pudding. There has been a lot of cake and other treats this week. I need to get back to frugalling and healthy eating next week!

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/09/2017 06:30

Don't worry about it yum. As the others said we are all on her for different reasons but for the same goal. We are at all income levels and life stages but wasn't too get best value for the money we do have.

I'm leaning more towards Ibiza. Everything will be equal with friends

needastrongone · 13/09/2017 06:35

Croatia for me Life.

Ha, glad you could all laugh with me at the DD incident Grin

Bag is lovely Laska. I'm doing really well and, apart from the 3 bits I specifically wanted, I've kept out of the Hush site. Go me!
