I didn't really notice the ads on bake off as I had to live pause periodically when DD cried (witching hour) so I could then fast forward through ads. I thought they'd kept it very consistent with the original. I'm not a fan of Noel fielding at all but fortunately he wasn't too dominant.

My last labour was 30-40 minutes of active labour (from c 4cm to delivered). I wouldn't recommend it be quite so fast Em - I was shocked but DD was also a bit distressed at the end too. I think maybe 3-4 hours is ideal. Defo thought my tens machine was brilliant, and gas and air was much appreciated with DD who was a back to back labour 😬

I've not caught up for a while as we were away over the BH weekend visiting friends on Saturday (overnight) then lunch at in laws on Sunday, then home and family visiting on Monday. Phew! It was lovely to have picnic weather, although a delinquent escaped chicken from a petting farm stole DS's sandwich at a country park place on Saturday SadGrin He was inconsolable.

School shoes are eye wateringly expensive. Looking for advice: DS needs trainers for sports and plimsolls for indoor stuff. Plimsolls were cheap but the trainers from Clarks looked quite expensive for something that will languish in a school bag most of the time. Any recommendations of where to buy those?

Meadow really glad you have enjoyed your first week at work.

Plumber says it will be £195 to fix our hot water tank to stop the garage leak. Eek.

Hello! I just tried to post on the old thread...

Catface and I have decided that apart from the adverts we enjoyed GBBO.

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/08/2017 22:16

Thank you Laska

That's one expensive leak.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 29/08/2017 22:23

Phew found you all, had a slight panic there for a min Grin

As long as you don't have a 4 day labour like i did Em you'll be fine It took me 4 days to get to 4cm, seriously my cervix is useless!!

Had a busy few days with work, went out last night with a friend spent £10 ish and had a lovely catch up. Dd is home now which is good, the house is a home once more.

Watched a bit of GBBO, verdict is out at the mo.....

Today was a NSD.

mammymammyIRL · 29/08/2017 22:37

Mega catch up post lost thanks to thread filling up Sad
Hey everyone I'll do better this time around I promise Halo

ChristmasSeacow · 29/08/2017 23:57

It's a London leak, Fluffy Wink

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/08/2017 06:58

Morning
Will catch up on bake off tonight as had a scout meeting last night. Back to work today.

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/08/2017 07:01

Try primark or the supermarkets for trainers and plimsolls. Or if you have a shoe zone.

ememem84 · 30/08/2017 07:08

girlie 4 days..???!!! Shock jeeeeeez

It's going to rain here today. It hasn't started yet but it's imminent.

Hopefully nsd.

Parcel for posting is on top of my handbag. It's a freepost one so no spends there.

Must call my beauticians as my next appointment clashes with my next midwife appointment. Probably should go to midwife not beauticians...

Cagliostro · 30/08/2017 07:49

Seacow at this age (unless there's a particular need for extra supportive shoes) I would go pretty cheap on PE trainers. They do so little PE at school at this age, mainly because they are little and it takes them ages to get changed :o plus if he's wearing plimsolls for indoor stuff and Winter Is Coming (the season, not Em's baby :o) there could feasibly be a good few weeks where he wouldn't even be wearing them. And they grow so fast Shock.

My little boy is 8 today. 8!!! I got him a last minute pressie yesterday of the Lego Batman movie but the others were all bought quite a while ago. Should get some cash or PayPal back today as not everyone has paid for Go Ape. Ice cream after and Pizza Hut for dinner (his choice every year) - spendy!

Is it just me who doesn't have a clue how long their labours were?! I know what times they were born (19:56 DD, 21:01 DS). I also know DD's was much longer and I was four minutes away from EMCS (she was distressed I think, and back to back as well). DS' was quicker and simpler but he was bruised from the quick delivery. For me really the worst bit was the induction with DD, that took 3 days to actually work (that was much quicker with DS too).

I am having a slight panic at the idea of going into labour naturally at some unpredictable time, the dash to hospital etc. I have no idea what it's like as I've only ever had labour kicked off artificially!

WreckTangled · 30/08/2017 07:52

Rain here today too. I'm going to catch up on housework and make soup for lunch.

Seacow last year I got dds from amazon this year I got them from sports direct for £20. The amazon ones were good as they were £13 and 'running' ones. She needs decent shoes.

WreckTangled · 30/08/2017 07:53

Oh yes cag makes a good point about them hardly doing pe to start with.

Happy birthday to your ds cag!

ememem84 · 30/08/2017 08:15

Happy birthday to ds cag

Food update here. Dh made me porridge for breakfast. With apple purée and a bit of homemade jam. And I ate it. I loathe porridge. It's a texture thing. Or rather I did.

He was saying how when I'm on leave proper breakfast will be the key to me eating properly and not snacking. We both recognise this is my downfall. He also wants the boy to eat porridge. I didn't want the boy to be questioning why he has to eat it and mummy is eating pop tarts other breakfast. So I was brave.

Turns out for some reason today porridge isn't that bad.

Fruit pot made (just grapes and a nectarine all chopped up) and haloumi salad is packed and ready to go. It's on top of my parcel so I will hopefully remember to pick it up today!!

Dh is going to look at the nursery today with me. If he likes it I think we're just going to go for it. It's no more in price than any other and you get an awful lot more for your money (longer opening hours, food, trips out (when baby is older) etc).

SnugglySnerd · 30/08/2017 08:35

Em I loathe the texture of porridge which is a shame because I like the idea of it! DD has loved it since she was a baby regardless. She also eats meat and fish even though I don't. I agree though it is good for them to see us eating healthy stuff. I sometimes hide my head in a cupboard and eat a chocolate biscuit so DD doesn't notice!

Enjoyed the GBBO. Pleased they didn't change much.

Thanks for new thread , Laska.

Laska5772 · 30/08/2017 08:52

Em i dont really like porridge but do like what i call overnight oats.. i suppose its a bit like bircher.. anyway soak your oats in whatever milk you use i actually often use natural yog) and geate inan apple and some raisins or dried apricots leave in fridge overnight ..in morning sprinkle a few toasted almond flakes or toasted hazlenuts and sprinkle of cinnamon if you like eat cold .. it tastes abit like riceù pudding i think ( i dont put sugar in mine as dont have much of a sweet tooth )

No rain here yet but i am going out in site so it probably will!

Cagliostro · 30/08/2017 09:40

Weaning DD definitely made me eat a bit healthier - I was wanting to feed her lots of veg that I didn't eat myself so I made myself try it too! I never liked sweet potato before that for example.

When wrapping DS' presents last night (#lastminute) DD said for Christmas she would really like just science stuff. Any ideas please? We've got a proper chemistry set and I may invest in hot wires although we do have some 'raw materials' like wires/bulbs etc

LonelyOversharer · 30/08/2017 09:41

New thread! Thanks laska

Liked bake off, cheated, worked for an hour while it was on, then watched it on sky + so I could buzz through the adverts. Honestly though, do they have to put in people who clearly don't bake??? That lady remade every cake, and they all failed, and she stayed. Maybe they have to fill every demographic. I play bingo, "grandma" "student" "dad" "yummy mummy" etc. I will have to apply eventually...but really can't take rejection! Bar nerves (I do not get on with adrenaline at all) I would have breezed through cake week! Sorry if I sound like a prat!

Labour's are what they are. You get no choice! I though my cervix was broken too girlie they tried for a week to get me going with dd1, she was a c section without a contraction. Dd2 full medical induction, pulled out in the end (28 hours on drip) stupid cervix - no worries having dd3, it'll take days... well she shot out like a cannon ball, active labour 3cm-delivered about an hour. Ds was about 3 hours, he was back to back. I have to admit I was stupidly pleased that my body actually did what it was supposed to (in the end).

My only advice is to expect the unexpected, and don't get steamrollered. If you're not happy or uncomfortable speak up.

seacow sketches trainers are very good for little ones, as they are so light. We have an outlet, but they are sometimes cheaper on amazon. They size as Clarks, so ds has 9.5's and they have loads of grow room. His we're £14. He has tinky tiny feet.

Happy birthday to your boy cag go ape looks so much fun! Perfect party for 8 yr olds. Hope he has a super day.

ItalianWiking84 · 30/08/2017 09:48
