Laska Definitely Clinique.

Girlie That's really not great at all. I'd be looking closely to see how the school deal with this and I would be quite firm with them tbh.

Collie I bet your hair is lovely. So glad you are back too xx

Oh I forgot, I got my hair cut, coloured and highlighted (first time in years) yesterday for £45. Got to love rural prices eh? I love it actually, breaks up the colour beautifully.

And I'm now in charge of facebook admin, female XC team and club records for the running club!

ememem84 · 13/09/2017 06:51

laksa I don't want to enable further but I'm sure hush have opened a store in jl Southampton...

I'm all in for a group hug. Yay!

When I joined the thread properly I had about £2k credit card debt minimal savings and zero pension. I was spending a lot on myself and had changed jobs and was in that invetween job stage.

Now credit card rarely goes over £500 and is paid off every month. I have chunky savings and my pension pot currently stands at £19k. Not enough to live off in old age yet. But it's there.

currenrly trying to live my most frugal life while also living my most loveliest life. So there is room for treats for me and dh (holidays horse riding nice dinners out nice clothes etc) but also the important things - new house - nothing extravagant but we have a goal of being mortgage free by the time we're 45. Another 13 years. Doable if we're sensible. 😀

needastrongone · 13/09/2017 06:54

Grin at wreck and her angry farm rant, which is totally justified btw.

Where's creme, she must be back now? Hope you are okay? X

Loveabaconsandwich · 13/09/2017 07:11

Flowers snuggly early mornings are so tough!

I was going to buy a hot chocolate this morning, but the shop was shut so saved the £s

Being frugal is definitely about getting the most for your money, but also being able to afford the nice to have things too (and not relying too much on credit). Life is too short to not have anything nice or not go out anywhere.

On the train 🚂 to work.

needastrongone · 13/09/2017 07:13

Too true love. I'll skimp on some things, others not. We rarely eat out, but I do buy quite pricey food as I enjoy cooking and eating clean. Balances out due to lack of lunches bought and restaurant meals etc. Smile

Loveabaconsandwich · 13/09/2017 07:18

Forgot to say, I have a nectar credit card. Most things get paid for on there and then we pay it back in full each month. Probably get between £5-£10 of points each month, but there is a £25 annual fee. Will be considering the options once my new mortgage is sorted (keeping the credit checks down)

WreckTangled · 13/09/2017 07:22

Girlie that's awful! Poor dd.

I'm aiming for a nsd. Will try and stay in the office to reduce fuel use as have to travel a bit tomorrow and Friday.

ememem84 · 13/09/2017 07:31

I'm off to a breakfast seminar. Need 2 more hours to reach my CPD target for this year of 35 hours.

Must check record to see if this includes technical reading. I'm allowed 5 hours reading. So if I haven't already put it down I'm good!

Seminar is at a nice hotel. So hopefully nice pastries and coffee will be provided.

Leftover chicken and couscous for lunch today and I have a Fresh fruit pot as a snack - pineapple red grapes and strawbs. Mmm.

Forgot another spend yesterday. Colleague went to the shop for her afternoon "fresh air" smoke break. Asked whether I wanted anything. I had a bit of a sore throats so figured sweets to suck on would be a wise idea. Asked for fruit pastilles. She brought back a gigantic tube - the kind you get for Christmas. £1! Bargain. So I have some sweeties in my drawer at work too. Yippee.

Veggie lasagne for dinner tonight. It's just me today. Dh is going to the pub to play pool with his mates. He's driving himself so will limit himself to one drink - he wasn't going to have even one but the place he's going to has some lovely indie beers. So suggested he has one.

LonelyOversharer · 13/09/2017 07:35

Morning! Guess what? It's raining here, just for a change. We have our last race on sunday, I think it might be a grim one. Need to do lists for the last lot of baking.

I am still in huge credit card debt. Like 20k. But since being on this thread I'm out of my overdraft, go into it only if something big happens (like the glasses a few months ago, was unavoidable), and most of my debt is rolling on 0% which it wasn't before. I just earn so little that actually clearing the debt will take years or a lottery win

You lot help me to plan, spend wisely (bar yarn), meal plan etc. And the support. You are all brilliant. I've left my username as it is as it is a very apt description. I have no real rl friends, so to be able to come on here and chew things over makes a huge difference to me Flowers Have super days today.

Cagliostro · 13/09/2017 07:43

Wow girlie that's quite a baptism of fire into high school life Shock :( hope she is ok today.

Caglets have their blood tests today, genetic screening as requested by hospital when they were diagnosed (for thread newbies, my 10 and 8 year olds were diagnosed with autism in June). They are super nervous as they haven't had any needles since childhood vaccines and one blood test each at age 2 (coeliac screening). Got the 'magic cream' at the ready though.

I have antenatal consultant (need to mention my ankles are getting fat although my blood pressure is fine/low so shouldn't be a worry) and then we are meeting up again for a very rare Shakeaway, which rightly or wrongly is the Caglets' reward for getting the tests done.

Also need to sort bus pass so that'll be spendy. Got a cold coming I think but DD has gym/acro tonight so that'll be fun Hmm. Need to book whooping cough vaccine also but not sure they'll let me have it if I'm ill.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 13/09/2017 07:44

Can I sneak in and rejoin. My overtime supply has dried up so I'm going to be £100-200 a month worse off.

Should be able to manage but need to be a bit careful. Plus side is I've used a lot of the overtime to pay off nearly £2k of the credit card debt so I could get away with paying a bit less there.

Have just bought the £1 meals book so am going to start cooking my way through that.

CollieBobs · 13/09/2017 07:45

Group hugs!! Em that's incredible well done!!

I noticed my credit score dipped when I had no credit card so using it / paying it off in full every month has definitely helped.

girlie that's awful, poor DD! Hope she's OK.

Just trying to meal plan

Wheelycote · 13/09/2017 08:04

I somehow managed to be fleeced by Dteen yesterday lol Been encouraging to go to a youth club with friend. He finaly agreed, plan was to meet a friend at mcdonalds and get the but to the club. I was picking them up. Dteen asked for hos pocket money 15pound.

He returned saying here's the change mam. Can I get my pocket moneyShock cheeky blighter!!

mammymammyIRL · 13/09/2017 08:32

Here's the beautiful hamper

Frugaleers Still Saving into September
SnugglySnerd · 13/09/2017 08:56

Well done on keeping in the black Lonely. Keep going you're doing really well.

yumyumpoppycat · 13/09/2017 09:24

Ha wheely that is exactly what my 10 and 12 year olds would try on (6 year old not so crafty yet), we are money trees apparently! We only give ours £1 a week but doubled and rounded up if they are saving rather than frittering (also put money on ds's id card for food and snacks at high school aprox £8 a week) . I think its a bit stingy but dp wants to keep it low and then we buy things that they need as they come up, treats when out etc. My mum usually gives them a few coins whenever she sees them too. Not sure this is the best strategy for learning money management.

Mammy is that a gift someone has given you or something you have made? Beautiful either way!

Sorry not to namecheck everyone this thread moves so fast and I should get off my bum and do some work!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 13/09/2017 10:02

I think that was about the age my mum started to give us an allowance yumyum. She paid for school uniform and any food that was in the weekly shop, anything else was up to us to budget for.

SunnyLikeThursday · 13/09/2017 11:30

That's good that the Caglets are getting genetic tests done Cag. There is something the NHS does then?

We're still up to the eyes here. Dh has stacks of interviews and now maybe one in the US. Ds is settling into school. House-buying for parents is on hold while the chain completes.

A bloke I've contracted to re-slab our drive and side passage just came and asked if he could do it next week. I said "Would it be okay in three weeks?" in a comically high voice. He said okay.

ememem84 · 13/09/2017 12:22

sunny it's good dh has had so many interviews. How do you feel about potential job In US?

Been to seminar (breakfast was rubbish) done a bit of work, spoken to accounts lady who deals with payroll re apportioning my pay over the time I'll be off so that's sorted.

Am off to meet a friend for coffee in a bit

Cagliostro · 13/09/2017 13:20

Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck

Looks like induction at 38 weeks

That's 7 weeks away

Fuuuuuuuck

CollieBobs · 13/09/2017 13:53

mammy lovely hamper!

cag I squealed for you! 7 weeks!

wheely that made me chuckle! Cheeky but kinda clever too.

rafals nice to see you again

lonely meal planning has made a big difference to us too

DS just shouted on the bus "Mummy, I have done a fart in my paaaaaaaants!"

I was beyond chilly with my sudden short hair so I bought a scarf for £20 Blush oops. I won't take it back because I know I'll use it for years. The last scarf I bought was from Topshop in 2008. Not bad going!

DH spent some money on Manuka throat lozenges in Boots. But I don't know how much they were

Bus was more than usual as the bus driver had little change so I had to buy a return instead of a single. So that was £4.55 in total.

Did the shop online earlier and it was £63 Inc treats & toiletries.

Going to look at Christmas things later and continue with my job hunt!

SunnyLikeThursday · 13/09/2017 13:57

Em Thanks for asking. It's just the interview that it's in the US thankfully. The job would be here. Previous times when dh has travelled and left me with ds, we've found that all viral hell tends to break loose though, so I'm bracing myself.

I keep wondering if I ought to pay someone to help out while dh travels. I'm sure that's what people in 19th century novels did. I suspect if I did that I'd just end up with two people to manage instead of one though, which might be even harder.

Dh says if he got the job, he might need to go again for a fortnight, so I'm thinking hard about that.

ememem84 · 13/09/2017 14:51

Ah that makes things easier then sunny no way could I contemplate moving to the US.

£5 for 2 hot chocolates for me and friend. Got stuck gossiping then realised I was late back to work. Only 10 minutes but still....!

cag is it bad being induced early? Or is it just the fact that it's only 7 weeks. (Which is only 49 more sleeps...! #helpful)

I'm essentially doing nothing today. I'm fielding emails. Forwarding them to people who are dealing. Etc.

Dh is out tonight. Yippee. So I can chill in my comfies and watch crap tv.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/09/2017 14:54

Sounds bloody stressful Sunny.

Cag It's the one time you can't procrastinate isn't it? Grin

Welcome back Raf

NSD

SunnyLikeThursday · 13/09/2017 14:58

It's a bit tricky Fluffy. Up to now dh has been very free to duck out of work here and there to help at home, but he's been tempted this week by a very big job and is swithering now. I'd like him to have a great job obviously, but If he's off to do that, then I need to get my ducks in a row.
