Evening all Smile

Have had a nice day and actually managed a NSD Halo

Dd had a riding lesson this morning, the stables were she has lessons are stopping group lessons in a few weeks Sad have had a quick look at other riding schools and they are all a lot more expensive. Not sure what to do really as its the one thing dd really loves doing, one friend said maybe instead of lessons she could just do the occasional hack/ trek. What do you think Need?

Am trying to meal plan and write a shopping list for next week, not got very far! Dd seems to be starving all the time atm, any ideas for healthy and filling snacks for 11yos folks? I might try my hand at making some bread as thinking homemade bread is always more substantial that the cheap shop bought loafs.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/09/2017 20:25

One of my dn's had a third hand cot collapse on them while they were in it.

It probably wasn't funny at the time.

My DM went totally overboard with me, 20% of dads wages went on my clothes for years.

WreckTangled · 09/09/2017 20:33

Girlie this weeks meal plan:

Pizza (tonight)
Lasagne (with added lentils Wink)
Umm beef casserole
Chicken and chorizo casserole (I bought skinless boneless thighs for the first time ever hope they're nice!)
Oven food (swimming night)
Giant couscous with halloumi
Meatballs with flatbread and salad

Does dd like cheese scones? They're so cheap and easy to make.

ememem84 · 09/09/2017 20:52

girlie if it was me, I'd go to a different stable. I like the occasional hack but don't feel I learn anything. I personally get a lot out of group lessons. Even now Im on a break I've been up to the stables to watch and can see maybe where I'm going wrong/could improve.

I guess though it's a matter of cost. Is it affordable?

needastrongone · 09/09/2017 21:08

Where and what would she hack out on girlie? If you have access to that, then that seems a good option. Your DD is experienced enough to handle a safe pony round a safe route without issue. To be honest, lots of folk are completely happy with that, I think that I would be personally.

But I remember your DD loving jumping too, and loving the shows.

Remember, not all lessons come from riding schools per se, DD still has lessons (and so she should, you never stop learning) at a standard livery yard. £8 for 40 minutes with a better instructor than most of the riding schools. Phone a few livery yards, you might strike lucky. This is on a small working farm.

If you are extremely fortunate, you might have a branch of your Pony Club that has municipal (for want of a better word) ponies. These are rare, but not unheard of.

Often, there's Facebook sites too or pre loved adverts where folk want their pony exercised because they can't for whatever short term reason. There's 2 on our yard that are saints and woefully underused.

It boils down to what your DD wants.

Pm if needed, I'm away still but will pick up Monday latest xx

Wheelycote · 09/09/2017 21:09

Finished sorting kitchen, it's now a usable roomGrinfor tea made chilli beef stir fry with oodles of noodles, yum!, all washing folded and now in bed😴

CollieBobs · 09/09/2017 21:32

girlie I was just going to suggest somewhere near Langport (i think its near there. My memory is a tad hazy) but then it's the cost of the extra driving too, isn't it Sad it all adds up. Anywhere out in the hills for hacks?

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 09/09/2017 21:49

Thanks peeps, it is tricky. She could hack out from the stables where she currently has lessons (a hack is just taking the horse out for a ride right? Blush i'm so not a horsey person!!) The group lessons will stop but they will still do treks and hacks I think...

I think Langport would be a bit far Collie the other stables i looked at want £24 for a group lesson (30mins) which seems extortionate to me!!

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 09/09/2017 21:54

Thank you for the meal plan Wreck this is what I came up with

Sun - fish n chips from the freezer (peas as well)
Mon - Brinner, dd will have a cooked dinner at school so light tea only
Tues - Jacket spuds with beans and cheese
Wed - Salmon with rice and veg
Thus - Spag bol and garlic bread
Fri - Chicken and noodles with red/ yellow pepper

LonelyOversharer · 09/09/2017 22:03

Just a thought em but a good quality waterproof sheet for your bed might be a good idea too!! Your body will leak from almost everywhere, and if you bf you might well wake up in a puddle, especially in the early days before your body gets used to the supply requirements! That sounds grim - bf is magic if you can manage it! Plus little boys tend to make a terrible mess in the night being changed. I used to change ds on the bed with me rather than trudge to the changing table

The Chinese was lovely. Very full now. I shall climb back onto my diet next week. I might get some exercise too if it stops raining long enough.

Cagliostro · 09/09/2017 22:24

Ooh yes I was pondering that the other day about getting a waterproof sheet for our bed too (for a start what if my waters break at home?! It was in hospital with DS and oh god the sheer amount Shock). Apart from the leakages, you may also end up with snuggly baby cuddles in bed, so nappy issues can happen there too.

Best tip I had with DS - wish I'd known it from the start - when you're changing him, open the nappy to get the air to, erm, it. For a good few seconds. Then cover him back up. The rush of colder air often makes them pee, so this way you can catch it in the nappy before changing it/pee going everywhere.

Speaking of grobag type things, I am using sleeping bags with baby, and funnily enough bought them from Morrisons. Very cute and seem decent quality.

lifelongfrugaleer · 10/09/2017 07:12

YY to waterproof sheets on the bed. You can get some nice towel material ones that don't make your sweat too much. oh god the sweats
At a push do sheet towels, sheet, towel, mattress.

WreckTangled · 10/09/2017 07:24

We learnt a good trick when we were in scbu the first time. You put the new nappy under them (opened up ready to put on) before you've taken the old one off then you're not flapping around if anything happens and you can take the dirty one away straight away so they don't put their foot in it or something.

Ds is having couscous for breakfast.

I'm going spinning in a bit, dh stayed out last night but will be home in time for me to go that'll be £6.50 and my friends turn to buy coffee.

Mil is back from NZ and coming round later.

We're out of cat food and WreckCat is not happy Blush

SunnyLikeThursday · 10/09/2017 07:31

life the night sweats and the weird dreams were the oddest things about having a baby I thought. Have you all read the book "What Mothers do, especially when it looks like nothing"? That was the best thing I found.

www.amazon.co.uk/What-Mothers-Do-especially-nothing/dp/0749926201?tag=mumsnetforum-21

Still not quite enough to ready me for dreaming about saving small baby from hoardes of flatfish

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/09/2017 07:41

I think the white company do waterproof bed protectors, it's probably worth spending more on yours so it's not crinkly or sweaty.

£4 ear plugs aka marriage savers.

ememem84 · 10/09/2017 07:53

No hadn't considered waterproof sheets for our bed(s). i had bought bed pads for me for after. Just in case of um "leakage" but hadn't considered sheets. Eugh. Just another thing to add to the "unglamorous things I'm learning about pregnancy" list.

I think we're going to go look round the maternity ward today. I called yesterday and they said to ring back at around 10 this morning. So will do that. Neither me or dh have been up there before so figure it's a good idea to get an idea of where we'll be. I also need to pick up a form for booking a private room on delivery day. So can do that there too.

Dh wanted to invite people round for dinner today. No idea if it's happening or not. I'm staying quiet. It would be nice to see friends but I'm tired and can't be arsed to socialise today. Obviously if they come round I'll socialise but won't be doing any cooking cleaning prep etc. I made that clear yesterday.

Should be nsd though.

northender · 10/09/2017 07:53

Fed up of the rain here. All the land is saturated, including our garden. The lawn desperately needs mowing, but there is no chance, for now.
I was the only member of the northend family not involved with cricket yesterday. Ds played a few overs for the 2nd team before rain stopped play, Dd was first team scorer but they didn't get any play, but the big news was dh making his senior cricket debut for the 3rd team at the grand old age of 46! He stepped in as they were short of players (he only usually plays the midweek "sloggers" team), did well and loved it.
The only spends so far this weekend have been post cricket drinks last night £25ish & cricket match subs £20.
I'm going to donate £20 to my friend's 17yo daughter who is running the GNR for the teenage cancer trust. She had cancer as a young child, so it's a really personal story.
Did circuits yesterday & have got a Powerwave class this morning (Powerwave is a specially designed sandbag of torture Grin)
Need to meal plan now. Have a good day everyone.

ememem84 · 10/09/2017 07:54

Oooh white co. I have a 15% off thing for there.

needastrongone · 10/09/2017 08:01

Oh the sweats! I remember the sweats....

Cagliostro · 10/09/2017 08:01

Wow well done MrNorth! 🏏

Does anyone here have a super king size bed and if so is it easy to get bedding for it? We've been looking into a new bed and while a king would already be much bigger (currently on an ikea double mattress on the floor Blush) I am so tempted to just pay a bit more for an even bigger bed...

needastrongone · 10/09/2017 08:02

Go Mr NorthSmile

needastrongone · 10/09/2017 08:04

cag, I so wish I had. We have a double and there's plenty of room for larger, I think me and DH disturb each other far more than we need to and I wish I'd had the foresight at the time. It was an expensive bed, so we can't change any time soon. I imagine there's loads of choice these days for bedding etc.

Cagliostro · 10/09/2017 08:08

True it's probably easier now! We will be getting a king minimum I'm just not sure if we will go even bigger. We want this to be our Forever Bed IYSWIM. Our bedroom is pretty small but every single house we've been bidding on has much bigger rooms so would have more space. Just need to think about what to do in the meantime!

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/09/2017 08:15

I'd like a sk next time. Beds only last 8-10 years anyway.

I bought our bedding in tk maxx, you'd need king size pillows too or three normal pillows.

SunnyLikeThursday · 10/09/2017 08:35

Em The night sweats thing after the birth is a nuisance, but I worked out quite quickly just to leave three pair of pyjamas by the bed every night. That way I could get up, get changed and get back into bed in about 3 seconds flat. Once I figured that out, it was okay. not glamorous though
