That advent calender looks lovely.

ememem84 · 23/07/2017 08:45

Wow! I wish I was crafty like some of you.

We went out last night. Out out.

Cousins leaving do - which predictably turned into a bit of a pub brawl... although dh and I missed that bit. We stopped for a drink went for a Chinese then went back to catch up with everyone. Could see some of the guys getting thrown out and scrapping while we were eating Chinese....

£29 on food and drinks.

Catface was weirded out last night. She slept on the bed for a long time then spent a lot of the night meowing. It was stormy. We'd closed the living room curtains. And the new fibre connection box deeley has blinky lights. I suspect she maybe thinks it's a monster.

She seems uninterested in her food - she's eaten the majority but has left loads. Again the new blinky box is behind the hallway chair near her food. So maybe will have to sit with her and tell her it's all ok.

She doesn't seem ill or anything. She's just as snuggly as she always was. So hopefully she's just a bit unsure.

Wedding anniversary today. 6 years. Dh made waffles and bacon for breakfast. And we're off out for lunch later. Yay!

Kelsar · 23/07/2017 08:53

Yesterday I spent not a penny. Took the dogs out for a long work to the coast and took my self a home made pack lunch.
Had a lovely time and made it even more lovely that it was all free !!

ChristmasSeacow · 23/07/2017 11:46

I am still here! Fell a few days behind but have managed to catch up now, just. Love that advent calendar - I have a half made one for DS (not a kit /panel so it's taking a very long time appliqueing numbers etc!). I wish I had gone for a preprinted panel now, especially as I should do one for DD too.

There's a lot going on with DS and school transition stuff - that should stop now school has finished although I am still deep in wrangling with the LA over his education and healthcare plan. We have reached formal complaint stage. I need legal advice and have found a SEN rights specialist who seems really clued up but is a lot cheaper than a solicitor. Still going to be £££, I am hoping it stays under 4 figures but I fear we may end up taking them to tribunal which will be even more expensive and painful Hmm. It's just appalling that LA's get away with blatantly flouting the law, but so many people don't have the knowledge or energy or means to fight them. We are very lucky that PILs recently gave us some money so we can afford to take them on, although there are dozens of things I'd rather be spending our money on!

That dwarfs our other spends, but we are generally spending more now with formula, 2 kids in nappies and buying more convenience food because DD's witching hours are throughout the evening so we struggle to do bedtime for DS and then cook and eat at a sensible time. I expect evenings will settle down soon though and we will get into more of a rhythm.

I also realised this week that we had no home insurance in place Shock. It was due to renew around my due date. I asked DH to look at options but he didn't and I had no time with work deadlines so i decided to let it roll over. I hadn't realised that it hadn't though, because the credit card I used last year had expired so the payment didn't go through. Anyway, I suppose we saved a month's premium and no harm done! All sorted now, though it was quite expensive. We ended up with the same insurer as they were still the cheapest. We live in quite a nice area but burglary rates have been rising (along with car theft) and I can really see the impact on insurance. We have a burglar alarm but it's not monitored, I am wondering about the cost of upgrading. Some people locally have installed cctv too.

On other matters, Cag, I saw a smaller alternative to a skip mentioned somewhere on mumsnet. They are like huge disposal bags (delivered and collected like a skip, smaller but still huge) - does anyone know what they are called? It might be worth finding out how costs compare - even starting a thread to find out what they are called if necessary- because the advantage would be that you could do one soon for the stuff you don't need at all, and then maybe another near moving time for oven etc. Rather than doing it all in one go.

On the subject of clutter, DD is already out of her newborn clothes and will be out of the 0-3 before you have your DD. Would you have a use for any of it? I'd like it to go to a good home.

Kelsar · 23/07/2017 11:48

They are called HIPPO bags available from places like B and Q

:-)

Cagliostro · 23/07/2017 12:07

Thank you re: hippo bags! I had assumed they would be smaller but if I can get one big enough (it's three beds, big cupboard and small cupboard minimum) will definitely do that, starting a thread is a good plan.

Thank you so much re: clothes, that would be awesome if you are sure! Thanks If it's ok I will wait and see what happens at the next scan, as there's a chance something could've been hiding and Cagletini is actually a boy :o

I'm sorry about the ECHP stuff, it's horrible that you have to fight so much just for the help he needs :(

Ordered some storage boxes today, so we can start packing things we don't need to access regularly. I should get cash back on quidco but the laptop died. Page was still open when I rebooted and I carried on, do you think that'd still go through?

ememem84 · 23/07/2017 12:36

cag re storage and packing have you thought about the vacuum storage bags? I bought a load from Amazon a while ago - the JML ones seem to be the best (although are the most expensive) but they're fab. We use them for our winter bedding, coats then switch out for summer clothes to save space in the wardrobe. That said I only store my shorts and sundresses (the ones I can't wear with tights throughout winter) in them. But they're pretty useful.

ememem84 · 23/07/2017 12:38

Off for lunch soon. Am excited. I managed to book completely the wrong restaurant a couple of weeks ago - booked somewhere with a similar name in Guernsey. Obviously wasn't paying full attention. But luckily the place we wanted to go had space. Albeit at a later time that I wanted. But it's not like we've got anything else to do today!

WreckTangled · 23/07/2017 12:46

£60 on two months membership upfront for local farm adventure place. Hopefully it'll save us money in the holidays.

Cagliostro · 23/07/2017 13:20

Good idea on the vacuum storage, I assume that is only for fabric things? I'll have a think if there's anything we could use that for. :)

ChristmasSeacow · 23/07/2017 13:57

Thanks Kelsar! I don't know if they are big enough for beds but might be useful at some stage.

Just let me know Cag. Even if you have a boy I have some unisex stuff that I kept from DS (though most 'very boy' stuff I have already passed on). Some of the girl stuff will be a bit too summery but we also got some stuff in a bundle that we haven't used because it was too hot (pram suit, coat) .

This afternoon I am going to try and book a holiday cottage for the first week in September before DS starts school. So that will be spendy too, but it will be brilliant to have a holiday to look forward to.

Kelsar · 23/07/2017 13:59

Would you consider air B and B
They might be a cheaper alternative???

WreckTangled · 23/07/2017 14:29

I ended up buying two Emma bridge water biscuit tins each with four packets of biscuits in for less than £20. One will go to my stepmum for her birthday. Not sure about the other one. Might keep it.

SunnyLikeThursday · 23/07/2017 14:52

I'm sorry you're having such complications with school Christmas. The processes that have to be gone through to deal with the school system melt my mind sometimes. I can't imagine what it must be like being a teacher.

We are in holiday now and just trying to slow down to be properly relaxed. It takes a few days usually. I'm still rushing around at the moment.

I bumped into a mum yesterday that I used to know from toddlers groups and was talking about how the school system seems to hard now and she said she'd taken both of her kids out of school and was home educating them. I felt slightly punched in the face when she said it, as I couldn't even imagine having the energy to do that. There are such a lot of home educated kids here now. I think the government should be taking the hint really.

We have entirely run out of food somehow, so I took the opportunity to wash the fridge shelves in the dishwasher. It looks weird empty, but very clean.

Cagliostro · 23/07/2017 15:06

I agree it's a sad sign of the way things are going that so many are needing home ed sunny - soon after we took the Caglets out the LEA lady told us that in our large town, the numbers on her books had tripled in 2 years. The paediatrician also said she was getting more and more HE kids through her doors and she could see it was because they weren't coping in the school environment due to their needs. Not that I'm biased or anything Blush in all honesty though I'm not sure I have the energy for it either.

Cagliostro · 23/07/2017 15:07

Not sure if we may spend on dinner stuff. I am feeling immensely uninspired and we have DSD here to feed too. So hungry!

ChristmasSeacow · 23/07/2017 16:06

Kelsar I use air bnb quite often and had a look on there first. There wasn't much going for the dates/location we want so am checking a couple of other sites. We are going in the first week of term (DS starts the following week) so its not peak season, which is making it doable.

Apart from booking a holiday this will be an NSD. Thank goodness!

ememem84 · 23/07/2017 16:21

£78 lunch. Glass of prosecco, Diet Coke, two coronas, crispy squid and salad, 5 spice ribs, crab linguini, Indonesian fish curry, espresso and a chocolate sundae.

Spendy. But worth it. This was our view.

Kelsar · 23/07/2017 16:30

Christmasseacow what other websites do you use ???

LonelyOversharer · 23/07/2017 16:30

Have finished my ride! Am so tired. Have had a long soak in the bath, and now watching the end of the Tour. Did a pit stop in sainsburys so £16, I went in in my lycra, splattered with cow poo. I care not! It's tearing down with rain now, but stayed dry for us this morning.

I love a storm on the horizon em we used to steer round them! Glad you had a great anniversary meal.

Will make pancakes for the dc for tea (my lovely parents gave them a proper lunch), but dp and I are hankering after a Chinese. According to mfp I am 2600 calories in hand today!

Saving into summer!
Cagliostro · 23/07/2017 16:43

I could also murder a Chinese but I am definitely not 2600 calories in hand :o :o well done for your ride!

Kelsar · 23/07/2017 16:44

I don't know what to have for dinner
Get paid Tuesday and was also trying to be good but at the moment I am fancying a glass of wine and a takeaway

We shall see

WreckTangled · 23/07/2017 16:46

I would love a takeaway right now!

Lonely that's amazing!
