Bahahahahahahaha!!! 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣

I've told dh about fanny chillers and showed him the maternity pads. He thought they were hilarious.

I think on Wednesday we need to sit down and make a list of things we need to get still. Then do orders online and make a plan to get the remainder.

Our pram arrives at some point next month. Yippee.

northender · 31/07/2017 22:28

This thread is brilliant tonight Grin
I had two sections so haven't experienced the "foof" pain but your posts have conjured up some amazing images!
Today hasn't been too spendy, made pizzas for tea with HM dough bases, it was delish.
Day out and lunch out with the inlaws tomorrow before they head off on Wednesday. Thinking of heading to Cartmel/Arnside/Silverdale for those who know the area.

SunnyLikeThursday · 01/08/2017 06:10

That really is hilarious. The hospital bag thing is so confusing. How are you meant to know what to pack when you don't know how long you'll be there or what kind of delivery it will be. I've done it and I still don't know.

I'm having about 50 heart attacks here as I'm going with my parents to look at a house and it all feels very rushed and I'm not sure if it's the right place. It backs right onto an actual farm, and I have no idea what that would be like. It might be nice. Fortunately one of my very best friends lives right down the road and is feeding me titbits of information over facebook chat.

thewaitresses · 01/08/2017 06:17

I was in complete shock first time I read a hospital packing list 'what the hell are maternity pads?!!' - also wish I'd have known about foof cooler!

Thank F it's the 1st and I can start again. July has been a financial car-crash 😫

ememem84 · 01/08/2017 07:14

sunny it is so confusing and you're right. How do you pack a bag not knowing how long you'll need to be there. Admittedly we're a 10 minute drive so it's not as though dh couldn't bring me stuff if I needed it.

should be nsd today. Going swimming after work which is already paid for as part of my gym membership. So so glad I didn't cancel it!

SnugglySnerd · 01/08/2017 07:21

Just place marking as I'm having a hectic week. The last few posts suggest I've missed something good! Will attempt to catch up later.

SunnyLikeThursday · 01/08/2017 07:30

That's what I thought Em. I went with three big bags of stuff packed and used nothing but one babygro and one nappy. I even had my swimming costume packed just in case, which I realise now was pretty daft as I went in for a planned induction.

Oddly the one thing that I did need, I didn't have. We ended up leaving the hospital at 10.30pm at night when it was cold outside and we had nothing warm to wrap the baby in. We ended up borrowing a thin blanket from the hospital and taking it back next day.

The good news is that they were very nice about my over-packing, and when we did find we didn't have a blanket, it was okay just to borrow one, so I reckon whatever you do, it's probably going to be about right.

As you say, your dh can always nip home or perhaps your parents could drop things off if your dh doesn't want to miss any of the action.

I'm still very excited about going to visit this house.

SunnyLikeThursday · 01/08/2017 07:32

The BBC news website says that British Gas are about to raise prices by 12%. ShockShockShock

lifelongfrugaleer · 01/08/2017 07:42

12% greedy lot.
I think they are used to people going on with loads of stuff. Pack for a couple of days then if you are in longer dispatch dh to home.

SunnyLikeThursday · 01/08/2017 07:43

Sorry for multiple posts, but properly frugaleer this time .

I just told my loop energy monitor that I have changed gas and electricity provider, and I told it what tariff I am on and it now says I am on a competitively priced tariff instead of saying that I could be saving £600 a year, so that seems good. Yay!

WreckTangled · 01/08/2017 08:31

Anyone know anything about beds? We need a new bed and mattress as ours is old and dh has a really bad back. I'm happy with choosing a mattress but the bed I want from ikea has a slatted base and my sister says a divan is much better for backs than slats. Anyone know?

LSD today. Waiting for the plumber and then we will go to the local farm park.

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/08/2017 08:35

I've always found divan better. You need to be comfortable to sleep well.

Cagliostro · 01/08/2017 09:33

That's interesting about divans vs slatted. We had a cheap Ikea slatted bed, false economy really. Currently have only a mattress on the floor which is oddly comfortable (apart from getting on and off it to pee a million times a night - thanks Cagletini!). I guess it would be worth investing in a divan but I am guessing they are more expensive? Would be nice to have a 'forever bed' though.

Didn't get round to doing the Tesco order last night so will probably send DH and the Caglets to get some bits. Need a list though. I bought a weekly planner whiteboard last week and am hoping to use what's on that to help me think of what food we need. Rather than my usual "oh crap we need a picnic/food for guest/snacks for long train journey"etc partway through the week.

Best of luck with the house viewing sunny it's scary stuff but nothing is insurmountable. Thanks

Good point about the hospital bags, I have no idea really. Logic says I should be out quickly this time because third birth! But health issues are new and maybe that will affect things. They're keeping a close eye on Cagletini so hopefully won't be any surprises this time - the only reason we were in 3 days with DS was because of issues caused by his size, which nobody knew about, but growth scans and extra monitoring this time means hopefully that won't happen!

We are about 1.5hrs from hospital by bus. So hoping to be as organised as possible. I also have no idea what I'll do about getting to hospital because I've never had to do the whole waters breaking = dash to hospital kind of thing, due to being induced both times.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 01/08/2017 09:40

Yy to baby blankets I was the same with dd, fortunately lots of people gave/ made me some lovely baby blankets but I had no idea how much I would use them! Dd was a Feb baby and it was freezing!! I also got the size of clothing wrong, dd was 3 weeks early and all the clothes I had got her were way too big Blush you muddle through somehow though.

I have a slatted bed but a really nice memory foam mattress, its very comfortable.

Right am off to see dd, will check in again in a couple of days.

mammymammyIRL · 01/08/2017 10:40

At the moment our boiler is broken, and the company who made them are on holidays for two weeks - solar panels are doing a brilliant job though and no one has had a cold shower yet Grin ironically wood pellet suppliers brites emailed me yesterday offering €40 off per tonne if I order now, in 8 years of being a customer we've never had an offer like that so going to nab that, pity we can only fit about 2 tonne rather than usual 3 tonne Hmm

Spends yesterday were €4 on a gorgeous toasted wrap for lunch (due to restless nights sleep-get more organised [grr]) €5.10 on two birthday cards (forgot while I was in town Angry), dd's dancing class was cancelled though so €7 saved Smile

After finding a good price for our flights next year - straddling June bank holiday weekend, using 11 days holidays but away for 16 nights/18 days Grin waiting on dh and db to confirm before I bookGrin

Cagliostro · 01/08/2017 11:24

£27 on Amazon, silica gel packets (packing books and board games up), lunch box coolers, a workbook and reduced Lego (Brickheadz are down to £7.29) for xmas.

Need to get a concertina folder for all our paperwork but I think wilkos might be cheaper so I'll wait and see. Also realised lunchbox coolers would probably be cheaper in there but if I find some I can always cancel the Amazon one (as I'd still have spent enough for free delivery)

Cagliostro · 01/08/2017 11:25

Exciting stuff about holiday mammy where are you off to?

ememem84 · 01/08/2017 12:59

cag from memory ds was a toddler when he came out correct?? Haha!

The one thing apparenetly people forget here are towels for showers. And some sort of bathrobe. I have made a mental note to pack both. Have a skinny hamam towel for the beach which folds right up into nothing and a skinny bathrobe (which is white but I've been meaning to get rid of it so....)

Cagliostro · 01/08/2017 13:18

Yes indeed he was fecking massive. :o So they are keeping a very close eye this time! Although actually at the 20 week scan Cagletini was measuring slightly small - not small enough to worry though. Still getting growth scans regardless (28/32/36wks)

Cagliostro · 01/08/2017 13:19

Towels and bathrobe - good shout!

Just realised in my Amazon order I forgot the laptop charger urgently needed. FML

ememem84 · 01/08/2017 13:35

Just been to midwife apt. Baby boy is on track to be around 7 and a half lbs they think. So that's good.

Everything else is all good. YAY! £5.55 on the worlds biggest sandwich, crisps and a Diet Coke (naughty).

Loveabaconsandwich · 01/08/2017 14:00

Ha ha, the conversation last night Grin

Suffering from post holiday blues although DP is already talking about next years holiday. Also arranging a trip to London before Christmas to stay with my brother and family so I suppose I can't be too miserable.

Quiet day today visiting my parents and the DC are colouring and playing with their toys

LSD by me, just ordered some intensive conditioner from Amazon. DP volunteered to do the food shopping on his way home from work later. Duck and air fried sweet potatoes for tea.

Back to work tomorrow but I'm working from home hopefully with a meeting nearby.

Just done my current account switch to m&s so will get £125 of vouchers. Been with my old account provider for 16 years- it appears I am a loyal customer, or was

SunnyLikeThursday · 01/08/2017 15:03

Towel is a good idea. I didn't get a chance of a bath or shower which is why I left so fast.

At our antenatal class they also said make sure to have a bottle of water or something as sometimes women who've had c-sections are left in a bed where they can't reach drinking water, and there aren't enough staff members to get water to them, sometimes for the whole night after delivery.

Makes it sounds like the DofE hike.

SunnyLikeThursday · 01/08/2017 15:11

My house viewing was a total bust this morning. The house had good walls and a good roof, but needed everything inside torn out and replaced, and would then still be a very small house. Back to the drawing board.

When my parents go home they are really going to appreciate their own house. Confused

LonelyOversharer · 01/08/2017 16:19

They put dd1 out of my reach (at the end of my bed) when she was about 6 hours old, and all my family had gone home. I didn't half get told off for basicslly unclipping the bloodpressure cuff/oxygen thing and scoobying down the bed to get her. I shrugged and said she was crying. I wasn't about to push a button and wait for the busy midwives to pass me my baby. I'd had a spinal for the c-section and my legs were still not working. Some women did lie in their beds for days on end with their babies in the nursery bit, but I wasn't like that.

Have had a nsd today, infact came out if the spar with £17 as I cashed five old scratchcards in, each with just a few quid on them.

Today is day one of freezer lotto. Tonights seems to be spag bol sauce. Not much, so have added stock, tom puree and some quinoa (found in cupboard) to pad it out. Will serve with whatever shape pasta we have. We shall see how many days we can eat out of the freezer for, as it needs emptying so the spilt peas and frosty bits can be dealt with. And then I'll tackle the chest freezer (no idea what is in there, too much crap stacked on top atm to open it).
