According to my app baby boy is now the size of a small clawed otter. Minus it's tail.

Just popping in to say hi from our holiday. It started as the holiday from hell with every conceivable thing going wrong. We were left with a choice to cancel or spend our way out of it. I know there's that argument (sub-cost or something) where it's pointless spending more just because you can't bear the thought of losing out on what you've already spent but in this case (with three young children stranded in the middle of nowhere) it has been worth it. We're now here and I've woken up to beautiful sunshine and the sound of the sea and happy babies. The extra money had to come from our emergency fund but if this didn't count as an emergency then I don't know what would! Looking forward to catching up on the thread from beside the pool today!

ememem84 · 27/07/2017 08:15

...and (moan alert) dh has used all the milk, eaten the last of the fruit, had the last piece of bread. This limits my breakfast options to:

Dry mueslis;
Glass of water;
Air;
A carrot;
A frozen scone - which will take about an hour and a half to defrost properly (no microwave with defrost setting); or
Spend money in bakery opposite work on coffee and pecan Danish.

He's also running late. And has again misunderstood the concept of "washing in the basket will be washed". Currently all of his dirties are either on top of the empty laundry basket or on the floor next to/behind it.

I've put a wash on this morning and only my clothes are being cleaned now. We are in some sort of washing mexicican stand off. He knows I'll cave evenetually. I know I'll cave eventually. But am determined not to this time.

Cagliostro · 27/07/2017 08:30

Nooo don't cave you have the frugaleers behind you! Mexican stand off makes me think of one of the more recent Big Bang Theory episodes where the boys buy helium from some dodgy guy. Anyway I sincerely hope you opted for the pecan danish rather than carrot and frozen scone!

Zebra milk eh?! Yum... Confused

WreckTangled · 27/07/2017 09:01

Don't do it em!

Cagliostro · 27/07/2017 10:14

Saving transport costs today as well as a lot of energy - family friend from my hometown is visiting locally and asked to see us, and offered a lift to mum's. Yay!

Will be spending on PayPal later, there's this amazing home ed group on fb where somebody sorts out group subscriptions to various online learning programmes so we get schools rates! Heard brilliant things about Literacy Planet and the cost will be £16 for a year rather than £75 :o

Cagliostro · 27/07/2017 10:53

Aaaand crashing back down to earth with a frugal fail, totally forgot our bus passes ran out yesterday Hmm

LonelyOversharer · 27/07/2017 10:55

Great savings cag

Hope you went Danish em Never cave on laundry!

I've never licked a goat - to be clear! But when you've handled one, the smell really doesn't come off your hands. Now I can handle a raw sheep fleece, probably because I can turn that into yarn and stuff to felt with, that's very smelly too for the first twelve washes.

Have been handed a billion Beatrix Potter things to paint for monday. They're faffy but very pretty, and I'm certainly happy with the extra money. Going to be bloody busy though!

Spends should be £50 orthadontic appointment for dd1, which we mustn't forget to go to later! And parking if needs be, some of town is disc parking (free), some pay and display.

ememem84 · 27/07/2017 11:02

Pecan Danish and hot chocolate. Followed by a pot of pineapple which I saved until for a mid morning snack.

Breakfast of champions.

I will not cave. I had to open washing basket this morning and get my things out to put them in the wash. Dhs washing mountain fell behind the bedroom door. Out of sight out of mind and all that. Part of me hopes catface starts nesting in it....

Went and dropped Ds' bike off to be fixed at the local independent bike shop. They quoted £22. Then went to the library. Nsd so far.

WinchSparkle · 27/07/2017 11:52

Hello, quite new to MN. Please can I join? I need some serious inspiration. Blush

SnugglySnerd · 27/07/2017 12:49

Welcome winch.

I do oven risotto too using one mug of risotto rice to 500mls stock. Start on hob with softening veg etc. Stir in rice. Chuck in stock and bring to boil then bung in oven for 30 mins on 200 c.

Just bought bananas today.

Hmmph. Finally managed to find my favourite cottage cheese (longley farm, full fat, with chives) and my fridge has frozen half of it Angry :(

WreckTangled · 27/07/2017 14:04

Welcome winch!

£2 parking
£2 something waitrose on gingerbread biscuits
£15 charity shop Blush on; a joules shirt for me, a nice top from accessorize for me, a dress for dd and a massive dragon tail for ds (I'm thinking ahead to world book day etc).

Cagliostro · 27/07/2017 14:19

Oooh any particular dragon he might dress as?

WreckTangled · 27/07/2017 14:31

No Cag! Usually they have a wbd theme Hmm so I'm hoping I can find a dragon to fit in with it Grin

WreckTangled · 27/07/2017 14:45

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/07/2017 17:00

Welcome Winch. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/credit_crunch/a2270347-Frugal-January-everyone-welcome?msgid=51923238#51923238 Read the op I did in this thread, it's got all the links to useful threads apart from the ones in chat. Excellent threads for when your just starting out.

Banana Excellent progress there Star

Waitress I'd have done the same.

Need yes I've seen some nice stuff in there too.

Batch cooking thread.

I've had an email convo with the makers of chop cloc, I can't find a sparky to fit it so the chap who makes them has offered to talk us through it so Dh can do it. Now I've found where all my heating cables route to it should be easier. Dh will be delighted when I tell him. Utterly delighted.

£7 homebargains, rechargeable batteries, citric acid to descale the wm (grim, the water went brown), microwave butterkist & hand gel.

Em My Dh leaves work stuff in the dressing room. I usually find it after the dark wash has gone on.

Dh wants to move our bedroom into the second bedroom and turn the master bedroom into his music room. He's wanted to do this for the last 4 years. I've said yes & he's backtracking now because the sofa in that rooms massive. It would get the guitar, an amplifier & the pedal board out of the living room though.

SunnyLikeThursday · 27/07/2017 17:05

Hello! Sorry I've been away for a bit. It's the summer holidays and I've been working on this electronics project and my parents are down so it's all go here. Good though. I hope it's all good there. Sorry I haven't had a minute to read back.

ChristmasSeacow · 27/07/2017 17:05

Wreck or check out Zog by St Julia of Donaldson. Zog is a handy dragon for such occasions Wink. Good Chazzer haul there though.

Cag, the phrase 'favourite cottage cheese' will never pass my lips.

Spent £3.90 on a brownie for DS and drink for me in Costa. I was trying to make up to him for taking him to his nursery 'graduation'. It was incredibly crowded and noisy, DS wouldn't do the dressing up in graduation gear and I had to stand at the back and carry him. All the kids got a big round of applause when their names were called except DS, who didn't go up to collect his certificate and therefore only got a halfhearted clap from a few people. I left before the end because they mentioned party poppers... I know they can't change everything for one child but there were a couple of others who also were somewhat overwhelmed, it wouldn't have hurt to tone it down a little. Or just tell me what's involved so I don't bother trying to come (I was assured it would be fine for him). Grr.

Both kids have been hard work today through no fault of their own. It is so hard to get out with the two of them as DS needs my full attention out of the home really. He's bouncing off the walls a bit from being cooped up... It's going to be a looong summer penned in at home. I hope it stops raining soon so we can at least go out in the garden.

Moan over.

WreckTangled · 27/07/2017 17:30

Yes we have zog!

ememem84 · 27/07/2017 17:36

fluffy you have a dressing room? #housegoals

Spends £23 in m&s on fruit, salad bread cheese and milk.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/07/2017 17:44

Yep, Dh has an extraordinary amount of clothes & yet nothing to wear. In this house it's me sitting on the stairs waiting to go out.

I fantasise about painting it black with coffee brown accents.

ememem84 · 27/07/2017 18:22

Ah I do that - the sitting waiting part. It's always dh saying he's ready then "just gotta do xyz..."
