Em.. goats cheese..so yum . You are just wrong. Sorry.

(Sheeps cheese is also fab..especially the Brebis i get when i go over to see my friend in Brittany )

ememem84 · 26/07/2017 22:04

Eugh. Goats cheese. Dh loves it. So sometimes buys it and fries it and has it on toast.

It annoys me that sometimes it's the veggie option. I'm not veggie but sometimes choose not to eat meat.

Laska5772 · 26/07/2017 22:10

Em years ago (many.. this was when adult Ds was about 3) at a posh restaurant in France we had as a starter.. Grillled goats cheese on toasted sourdough (which had been rubbed with garlic) with beetroot , rocket and a honey /mustard French dressing..

We still often have it for lunch. Glass of Wine . Tell your DH .

Laska5772 · 26/07/2017 22:29

DS also loved as a child ( and so did we all and still have it .) Salmon fillet baked with with butter and lemon juice in foil (or microwaved on low/defrost for about 4/5 mins with lemon and butter ) on rice with pesto and salad . But would also be nice with peas , sweetcorn or french beans .

needastrongone · 26/07/2017 22:33

Spends today, just the £6 for training for DD.

Haven't caught up as busy day.

cag, the minestrone soup is from Jamie Oliver's family favourite book that myself and snuggly like so much, but I can't find a link. It does involve a bit of chopping of veg and I don't know how long you can stand for? Although, you could buy chopped veg, as it's surprising how much soup a few bits of veg, beans and pasta makes so it's good value even if you didSmile

fluffy I've just got a few bits from the petite section of Dorothy Perkins online and have been surprised at the quality. No vanity sizing too, just thought I would mention as I know you are on the slim side too. X

WreckTangled · 26/07/2017 22:34

I looooove goats cheese

WreckTangled · 26/07/2017 22:35

Just watched the Ab Fab film. It was shit. But reminded me that I used to serve June Whitfield when I worked in a chemist many years ago. She lives near here.

Laska5772 · 26/07/2017 22:41

JO minestrone. This one Need?

I've done Delia's Minestrone for years. Its like this one , but my recipe is out of her complete cookery course circa 1974!! I use broken up spaghetti instead of macaroni

HollyTheHarrier · 26/07/2017 22:44

Laska I'm a pensions actuary (risking making myself very identifiable) so should be able to help, feel free to throw any questions my way! It sounds like you're asking all the right questions though, the important thing is to get the administrators to give you the figures, they can give you the definite position!

LonelyOversharer · 26/07/2017 22:48

Goats cheese is truly awful. It tastes hairy to me. Like licking a goat. Sheeps cheese is similarly foul, my parents always have some in, the christmas cheese board is like russian roulette. To the point where my mum thinks I only like wenslydale with cranberries in... it's the only 100% identifiable one!

Dd1 and I have just shared a bag of tortillas dipped into the (huge Costco) jar of peanut butter

Laska5772 · 26/07/2017 22:51

Another thing my DS loved (a plain eater remember) was Tortellini ( id buy the fresh kind as it cooks quickly and would do two meals) with grated cheese or ham or sausage, and chopped red pepper and sweetcorn or peas ..

He'd also demolish a fruit bowl so desserts were always that with yoghurt ( he actually loved plain greek yog with honey ,) but of course i wasnt totally healthy mum and did also buy him fromage frais and fruit yog ..) .

Cagliostro · 26/07/2017 22:57

Oooh yum thanks re: soup recipe. Need how long I can stand varies a lot, I know standing to stir a risotto constantly would be far too much (blood pools in my legs), but something like chopping can be done in stages or sitting down so it's doable - alternatively I can just get DH to do it before he goes to work :o :o haven't had a good minestrone in sooo long.

Goats cheese is ace. I first tried toasted goats cheese on dressed salad in Cafe Rouge as a young teen, it's been a favourite meal ever since. Made it for lunch today using slightly stale tiger baguette, bagged beetroot salad (LOVE raw beetroot) and a few bits and pieces. Le. Yum. Except the ready-to-eat avocado that I bought on Monday was still nowhere near ready. Asda are lying gits.

Need to get cash out for DD tomorrow, she's trying a drama workshop and lovely friends are taking her there and back for me as I'm not up to it. Got to travel to mum's after for a few days, so will just be travel costs. Thankfully I have stopped wheezing already. :)

Cagliostro · 26/07/2017 23:01

But how do you know what licking a goat is like? Wink :o
DH won't have anything goaty as he used to live in Saudi (RAF dad) and they had to have goats milk which apparently is foul.

I like tortellini but last time I served it DS ripped all the little pasta bits off the edges to eat, and left all the filling. Sigh. :o

Cagliostro · 26/07/2017 23:02

DD is weird with cheese, she likes the rind best. If we get a wheel of chevre I cut all the edge off for her and I eat the middle (the best bit). She'll have the rind from brie and even took a liking for the rind of some blue cheese my friend had (but when I bought 'normal' blue cheese it was a no-go). Weirdo. :) :)

ChristmasSeacow · 26/07/2017 23:09

I was holidaying in Mexico a few years back, staying with Mexican friends, and they offered me some caramel spread (dulce de leche) to spread on my toast. I had it and it had a very... earthy taste. Turned out to be made from goat's milk. It was palpably goaty. I'll leave that thought with you goat refusers Grin

I also had ice cream made from elk's milk in Sweden. It was exceedingly rich. And also quite 'earthy'.

Laska5772 · 26/07/2017 23:13

I was wondering about the goat licking also Cag ( it sprobably best not to enquire to closely ..eh? Grin )

Where we go in Greece its very rural and you often come across goat herders in the road with about 300 goats.. Its hot in Greece in the summer. sometimes very hot .. Now, I dont want to denigrate goat herders (and the cheese is great) but believe me if you ever get in amongst a flock of goats in the car on a road.. the smell! ... Shock It is truly something.. .....I do often wonder if the goat herders are married.. but then also you do see a lot of goat herders huts in very remote places up mountain sides .. perhaps not then..

Laska5772 · 26/07/2017 23:18

I do love the random way this thread goes .. !! Its about being frugal, and, eh.. currently Goats! Grin

Laska5772 · 26/07/2017 23:21

oh yeah

Saving into summer!
Cagliostro · 26/07/2017 23:34

palpably goaty :o :o :o

Just found out I was picked for the Pizza Express product test, yay! I might just have a goats cheese pizza. Wink

ChristmasSeacow · 27/07/2017 03:51

I just found this interesting article about why we make dairy products from cows and goats (and a few other animals such as buffalo) but not pigs, for instance. Who knew?

www.slate.com/articles/life/food/2012/07/why_don_t_we_drink_other_animals_milk_the_dairy_of_camels_buffalo_pigs_sheep_and_goats_.html

ChristmasSeacow · 27/07/2017 04:10

This is good too:

www.bbc.com/future/story/20160707-the-surprising-links-between-human-milk-and-the-wild

Apparently human milk is close in composition to zebra milk.

Can you tell I am up feeding DD?!

ChristmasSeacow · 27/07/2017 04:12

Is Sunny away camping? And what of Meadow? Hope all is okay.

Ah Cag I'm jealous I didn't get picked Sad

Today dd is going to the opticians, no reason why she just wanted to go Grin so will need to pay for the car park but that's it.

ememem84 · 27/07/2017 07:19

I never used to like feta cheese either then I found out it can be made from goat milk. That'd be why then. Now we buy cow feta.

I'm looking forward to the end of October (when ds will absolutely definetly be here) and eating a baked Camembert. With lovely bread. I'm sure if it's pasteurised and cooked I could eat it now but don't want to risk it - says she who's had the odd glass on wine, eaten a few runny eggs and rode pony until 3 weeks ago...

31 weeks today. Eep.

Lunch with friend today. Last lunch before she leaves her job then goes on an extended holiday. Won't see her again probably until mid oct.
