I was thinking that about Aldi too. I think that as they expand their range for more premium stuff, like we're used to in Tesco and Sainsburys, they are charging more. If you just pick up the basic stuff that they only used to stock, it's about the same. But slightly cheaper branded stuff (they got me with old el passo a while back, added £10 to my shop as they were a bit cheaper than tesco so stocked up) draws us in too. Still love them, but have to be careful!

Ds was adamant last night that he didn't need 'night time pants' (pull ups). Changed him at 0400. Sigh. I want to shrug my shoulders and say 'boy', but I think we've all been a bit lazy with it. And hate the boy cop out. Dd1 was very slow at this too.

Last day of primary school here! Yay!! Rained overnight, but no storms.

mammymammyIRL · 20/07/2017 08:25

What age is your ds lonely? Mine will be 4 in Nov doesn't want to wear his nappy at night but is wet every morning. Even wet my mothers bed when he went for a 3 hour nap on sat eve, he was very tired alright but slept 3 hours in car coming home Sunday & didn't wet Hmm
I don't want to go back to wet bed & changing sheets Sad

needastrongone · 20/07/2017 08:45

Also made £12 on selling sites, but putting together a Jack Wills bundle just now which will sell well, the brand always does.

Interesting about Aldi. We have a new one in town but haven't been in yet. It'd be two buses home from there so sticking with Tesco delivery, but I keep hearing very good things about their nappies so I may stock up from there.

Em if you have only had an irrational preggo cry once, you're doing bloody well!!! I am definitely feeling the hormones kick in now (23 weeks) and feeling super grumpy and dramatic.

ememem84 · 20/07/2017 09:51

Frugal win!!! I submitted my mat leave form to our social security office earlier this week.

Checked my bank today and I'm £687.57 up. This is apparently my "baby bonus" I knew I'd get it but wasn't expecting it this quickly. Woooohoooo.

Have squirrelled that away into savings for the moment.

LonelyOversharer · 20/07/2017 10:29

mammy he's 5! I know I've been lazy, but it takes so long to get him to sleep, I'm bloody well not waking him three hours later for a wee! New pack of pull up required I think. I too hate changing wet sheets, and peeling wet, smelly pj's off a sleeping child isn't much fun either.

Cagliostro · 20/07/2017 10:44

It's not lazy at all lonely some kids just take longer, I've heard with night time dryness it is a hormonal thing, literally they are not physically ready and some kids don't have that change until later. My two were dry at night as soon as they were out of nappies in daytime (around 3rd birthday) but that was pure luck, not down to training at all.

SnugglySnerd · 20/07/2017 12:27

Aldi nappies are fab, Cag and currently only £4.99 for a box of 98.

mammymammyIRL · 20/07/2017 12:42

Lonely I've heard what cag mentioned too & this is why I'm not forcing myself

ememem84 · 20/07/2017 12:43

cagast nights meltdown was my first preggo rage. I'm fairly pleased with that. Am 30 weeks today!!!!! Aaaaaahhhh!!!!

Mummysh0rtlegs · 20/07/2017 13:04

£3.50 for toddler group and then £20 in lidl on pre-school teacher gifts and pastries for me to try and cope with the epic tantrums and bad day I'm having.

FridgeCut · 20/07/2017 14:03

I have namechanged, the last post on this thread was me :)

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/07/2017 14:53

Fab baby bonus em, well done for saving it.

£2.50 pie & soya cream for my poor exhausted Dh when he eventually gets home.

I've decided to save my nectar points for the Christmas big shop. Aside from 2 pairs of jeggings I need to plug wardrobe gaps. One pair turquoise, one dark blue with a faded front area. There should be a 25% off event in mid August.

need my Dh is brilliant at selling stuff on eBay, he buys good quality stuff & sells it 10 years later for 80% what he paid.

I'm thinking of buying dye on eBay, can't find the colour camisoles I want in the shops in petite sizes Angry. I'm not even that short.

100yearsdotcom · 20/07/2017 15:39

Having trouble keeping up again, the last couple if days seem to have been manic for us! Anyway, despite being busy they've been NSDs thankfully as will today. Although I need to buy a birthday card and present for 2 people but that might have to wait till weekend.

Grin @ need's pony
And sunny that little bird has me feel strangely better too! Grin

SnugglySnerd · 20/07/2017 15:52

I've been meaning to name change for ages but haven't got round to it. Maybe I'll do it soon...

northender · 20/07/2017 16:00

I'm back after an extended break due to extreme cricket parenting & other stuff!!
Em every credit on all the socialising, I'm not sure I'd have had the energy
laska big decision re work, good luck with it
Cag Shock at those primary school sizes. We have one school in our city with a 3 class intake and I was shocked at that.
wreck well done on your dd's report
need glad to hear the happy pony news
lonely the night time wetting is often a hormonal thing. The levels of the hormone desmopressin have to be high enough and sometimes that doesn't happen until 8 or 9. Dd is 12 and takes desmopressin daily as she is dry most of the time but occasionally wets still and the desmo stops it.
Girlie I love your frugal presents for teacher, childminder etc, I bet dd had fun being creative too.
So hectic here, Ds has been playing cricket almost every day for the past couple of weeks which takes some organising and is time consuming too. He has had a good season so far, not his most successful in the junior games but he has really established himself in the senior squad which is great. Dd meanwhile, continues to rake in the cash by being the scorer for the first team. Ds is able to do the scoring for 20/20 games which he doesn't play in and are midweek, so he earns a bit too.
Dd has had an amazing week with a distinction for her drama exam & just the best school report imaginable. For those who remember the difficulties she had in Y6 it is the most dramatic turn around, high school has been a revelation so far for her. "Wonderful, northender's dd, this is one of the best reports of the year, you should be very proud" that was from the head of year.
I'm having a strange few days as it is a year since I was in hospital and I seem to be reliving all the memories very vividly. Most things I am okay with, but the memory of the first night when I thought I might not make it and then the uncertainty of the next few days have really stuck with me. I have been pretty positive since but just at the moment go from wanting to sob uncontrollably to wanting to have a big party and celebrate!!

In frugal news I've managed to stay focussed most of the time. I have switched car insurance and saved £50 compared to the rubbish renewal quote. A lot of our debt is on 0% credit card deals which we are steadily paying off. 2 of the 3 were coming to an end so they have been moved to a 28 month 0% deal (0 fee) on a Sainsbury's CC. I've set up the direct debit on a fixed amount which will pay off the debt in full in the 28 months. The loan we took out for our family car will be paid off in May 2018 so I'm definitely starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel. I've also been accepted for a Halifax Clarity CC which gives fee free cash withdrawals and payments abroad so that will be what we use on holiday. That is set to be paid in full so no interest charges.
Our dual fuel is with OVO. It has just been increased from £85 to £112 a month. I think it would be manageable at £95 but I'll keep an eye on it. We are stingy with the heating in the winter (hard northerners!) and line dry the washing for as long as we can. I don't think it's bad for a big 1930s semi.
Our current account switch to M&S has gone through so I'm now waiting for the £125 gift card. £5 a month gets added for the first year if you have 2 dds going out and £1k paid in each month so £185 total.

No spends so far today. Cake, scones and focaccia baked (I find baking therapeutic), washing all done and out on the line, bathroom cleaned and kitchen half cleaned. Need to decide what to have for tea...

Good to be back Smile

northender · 20/07/2017 16:01

Sorry for the mammoth post Blush

CremeEggThief · 20/07/2017 16:35

Good to hear from you, North. Fantastic news about your DD. She's really blossomed since starting secondary school.

NSD.

LonelyOversharer · 20/07/2017 16:50

Thats it then. Dd2 has left primary school. I didn't cry until I looked at dd and she was in tears, it was good, but grim too! She won the attendance certificate draw, £25 vue voucher, and dd1 came home with £50 for winning her textiles comp! Go my girls!

I spent £57 in morrisons, £35 of that was teacher related, plumped for an amazon voucher for each, I saw how many flowers and chocs went in this morning. £10 vouchers came back out at me, so that will help next time. And £2.60 on ice creams (van in school for leaving day).

Thanks so much for the reassurance about night wetting. I do feel lazy, but it helps to know it's hormonal. Dd2 was day dry at 18m, but not until 4 at night, and dd2 and dd3 did both day and night at about 3. We very much parent him "at his own pace" this is termed spoilt rotten by most people so will just let him go with it until he's ready.

northender · 20/07/2017 16:52

How's the house creme?

ememem84 · 20/07/2017 17:32

north socialising was exhausting. But it's a necessary part of my job.

As long as I've done an event like that and have handed out at least 5 cards I'm happy. I had to force myself to join in conversation though twice last night.

On both occasions I left the group i was chatting to on the pretence of seeing someone I knew then accidentally on purpose bumped into someone a smidge. Then apologised. Then introduced myself. We're told to network network network. Eugh.

Spends today £1.59 mayonnaise. I took a salad into work for lunch and fancied some mayo. So bought a bottle from the shop. We needed it at home as had run out so it was a necessary spend.

Pay day tomorrow yay!

I was suprised about receiving the baby bonus this early. I knew I'd get it eventually. But thought it'd be sent on/around my last day of work or with my first week of mat pay. So hooray. I think the idea of the bonus is that you use it to buy the pram. But seeing as we've already done that thanks mum and dad well use it towards something else.

Incidentally there have been people who have kicked off about people like me (employed full time in finance sort of roles) receiving mat benefit. Apparently "it's not fair" that my work will also pay me to be off and I can claim the benefit.

My old gp asked why I was claiming it because he notes what I do for work. I said because I was entitled to it. He raised an eyebrow. But then the form I filled in asked for the baby's fathers bank account details so the money can be paid in. I just put my account details. Antiquated systems we have here. Technically/legally speaking tax wise I belong to dh. He has to declare me on his tax form as one of his "assets" Hmm

WreckTangled · 20/07/2017 17:40

Lonely the Eric website is the best for info re incontinence. Nighttime wetting is classed as 'normal' up until age 7.

Em that's great news but weird about he form filling etc!

I'm so annoyed I forgot to get a receipt for my parking earlier and it was £4! Angry

Coppersulphate · 20/07/2017 17:55

Bet the cake was delicious Em, even if you are an asset.
And of course you should claim mat pay. It would be means tested if it was not meant for everyone.
£1 on car parking as I had to go to the bank to pay a cheque in.

needastrongone · 20/07/2017 18:03

Lonely, DH was a night time bed wetter for a very long time, his DF ended up making some form of electronic device to wake him up with a buzzer if there was wetness on the sheets (or something like that). Grin

Fluffy Agree, the branded stuff sells pretty well. I bet your DH does really well from it. I've bundled the JW stuff but I might split it down if it doesn't sell. I'm sorry your DH is exhausted at present though. I 'm ALL about the capsule wardrobe btw, with a few on trend items. However, I refuse to define what I wear by age. I've far too much navy though...

Lovely to hear from you North. Brilliant news re your DD. I have had an extremely positive experience of high school for both of mine. Summer is so busy isn't it?

Well done on the bonus Em.

Spends have been limited to Sainsburys, £120. We are doing a BBQ for friends at the weekend, so that included all the beer for this and the meat too.

Oh and £16 for the personal trainer. Tons of abs. I have abs of steel GrinGrin

I'm sure they still make devices like that. Have you tried Estée Lauder advanced night repair serum? I got a sample off eBay. Like.

Cba to pm.

I've been comparing leccy tariffs all afternoon. My heads about to explode.

I'm 25 nectar points away from new jeggings.
